That kind of thing has happened over and over again with M$ products. You can count on it happening again.

Linux for freedom, and for free.

Yup. Took my sisters old vista computer and installed Ubuntu linux on it. Works better than it ever did with Micro$oft.

It already came with Windows, and the software I use that justifies having the computer doesn't come in a Linux version.  so switching to Linux is a case of the cure being worse than the disease.

I loathe Windows, but am stuck using it at work.  Made the switch to Apple OSX/MacOS 10 years ago for my personal laptops and haven't looked back.  Alas, my sister is always bugging me for Windows tech support for her laptops.

I have 2 Mac Book Pro laptops, an iPad and an iPhone.   Even still have my old iPod that I use once in a while...definitely a bit of an Apple fan.  Even have an Apple decal on my Jeep.. ;)  My experience has been their products just work well and don't require a lot of fiddling with..

I just got back from a ride to nowhere!  Hobby Town in West Chester PA isn't there anymore.  I needed to stock up on Tamiya paints, brass rod and Evergreen.  One more hobby shop bites the dust.

The number of auto scams on the Offerup website. Was just cruising the site not really looking for anything but could not help but notice some very nice cars, trucks and even motor homes where the seller ( scammer ) was asking for a full price of 1,000 or 1,500 and some for 2,000 dollars. These vehicles were worth many times the asking price. Upon checking a couple of review sites I found this to be pretty wide spread and many people cheated out of their hard earned money. On the other hand if you were to see a 5 year old Toyota 4X4 with low mileage for a total of 1,500 bucks would you believe it.

A sign of the times.

While working on a new avatar (I like to create my own and not just copy images directly) my printer/scanner died.

The local repair shop told me today it's DOA. Jeez it's only 2and 3/4 years old. Ugh!

Anyway here is as far as I got on a new avatar before I could get a good scan.

Taking a printer / scanner to a repair shop is like taking a gold fish to a vet!   They are disposable today. 2.75 years is a good run.  A new one will be cheaper than the replacement ink cartridges and will have newer technology than the one that expired.

Tom, You are correct, tho I had hoped it could be repaired instead of going into the ever growing disposable products land fill.

At least there was no charge to find out it was on it's way there.

Oh, I'm the voice of experience!  I had a printer I liked.  I put a new cartridge set in it. Didn't work so I figured the cartridges were bad.  So I bought another set. Same result.  So I bought a new print head.  Same result.  Bought new printer for the same price as the print head.  School of Hard Knox..

I'm guilty of buying new printers when the ink runs out . I can replace it with a newer model for less than the cost of the ink cartridges . I usually buy the same brand and just swap out the cartridges , save the printer in case mine dies .

I've also learned to refill my own cartridges .

They must survive on the r/c world.  I haven't been to the local on in several years (or the one in Lexington) due to poor customer service.  They used to carry Hot Wheels and other collectable lines so I figured I would stop in.  The sign says the store opens at 10a...no signs of life.  A middle age guy and an older gentleman unlock and walk in a few minutes after 10a so it'll be another ten before they are ready to welcome the public.  Almost all the models were the same as the last round of close outs at Hobby Lobby or the current stock at Ollies.  There were a few Revell Germany kits.  Down a little farther, the die cast shelves were in disarray.  A few years ago I worked at Dicks Sporting Goods and no one left unless the Manager was happy everything was straightened for the following morning.  (The 1/24 Maisto yellow four door Jeep did catch my eye but not at $24!!).  I did grab the die cast 1/24 New Ray 66 GTO for $15 as I only saw one at Hobby Lobby once and never again.

You are right Jeff, I've said before that in a lot of cases hobby shop owners are their own worst enemy.  I've known guys who just repelled people, who didn't come back.   I was at Mainline Hobbies the other day and the owner there is a nice guy who engages you in a conversation.  He told me that the specific Hobbytown owner did want to retire, and last year the roof caved in after a major snowfall.  Standard strip mall with trussed roof.  The insurance paid for the entire inventory so he retired!

Thanks to hurricanes Florence and Michael I now have to spend another $4000 + (guesstimate) on getting my basement waterproofed.  For many years one particular corner of my basement had been leaking when it rained.  I finally broke down and had a company come in and fix the problem.  They only did the east and north walls at my request (stupidity).  We had never had problems with the south wall area leaking.  The aforementioned hurricanes changed that.  These walls are the ones I have my shelving for my models (they did not get wet - whew), all the shelves screwed to the wall for my power tools and other basement stuff, one corner is where my model working area table, etc. is located, and the other corner is where my heat pump is located.  I called the company on Friday and they have not returned my call; I was on hold for more than 8 minutes before speaking to anyone, so I am sure they are going to be quite busy.  They did an excellent job on the part they finished.  One small light in all this is that I have already paid for the sump pump system and dehydrator so the only cost will be trenching out the concrete and installing the drain tubes, still not very cheap.

I do that too, it really is almost cheaper in many cases to simply buy a new one.

So, if you want to make a lane change on the freeway and there is too much traffic, what do you do? Oh yeah, you STOP and wait for an opening. :o

Before anyone lights me up for taking a photo while driving, this is from my dashcam.
