89AKurt Posted Tuesday at 04:03 PM Posted Tuesday at 04:03 PM I forgot to post this the other day...... Shrinkflation in a picture. At least once a week I'll graze on just rabbit food, for the past several years I've cut out the spine because if I really REALLY want to eat fiber, hemp rope cooked in olive oil. 😏 This should be the last time, about half in volume if not weight was put into the compost for the Javalina. I really prefer spending about twice for a really nice salad at one restaurant, maybe every other week. I don't eat enough to justify packages of tomatoes that have no taste. At least I have the choice in the First World, have to thankful.
iamsuperdan Posted Tuesday at 04:24 PM Posted Tuesday at 04:24 PM The bitching and moaning around here has gotten really bad over the past few weeks. At this point, I seriously dislike coming to the Off Topic Lounge, and even the General Discussion areas. So much negativity. Honestly, the only reason I do is because, as an admin, it's part of the job. Some of you need to take a break, sit back, relax, maybe build a model or two, turn off your internet and your tvs and your social media, and just refresh and recharge and reflect on your lives. Come back in January with a fresh outlook. I seriously think some of you are going to pop a valve and we'll end up seeing you in the In Memorium section. 2 2

Of course you could also look at this section as a healthy way to blow off steam. Some of us have no family or close friends to talk to who get some of the things we rag about (kinda like some of us don't have anyone to share our modeling interests with other than on the forum either, ya know?), and dumping petty annoyances here gets them out of our systems. It's a lot cheaper than paying a therapist $100+ per hour just to listen non-judgmentally, too. I frankly believe that the "complainers" DO INDEED appreciate fully much of what's in their lives. I sure as hades do, and say so fairly often. Respectfully though, YOU don't have to take any of it to heart. EDIT: Google's free AI seems to understand. "It's valuable to express appreciation for the good things in life, and many people who voice complaints also have a strong sense of gratitude. A person can hold both perspectives simultaneously, acknowledging aspects that could be improved while still appreciating the positive elements they encounter daily. The two sentiments are not mutually exclusive." Edited Tuesday at 08:27 PM by Ace-Garageguy punctiliousness 3
TonyK Posted Tuesday at 06:49 PM Posted Tuesday at 06:49 PM I'm going to bitch and moan because it's my birthday and I'll probably feel better after I do it. Did my weekly grocery shopping this morning. The store has a deal each week to buy 3 or more things or 5 or more things on a list and get $ off. I sometimes take advantage of it but today I screwed up and bought a wrong size of something that wasn't on the list so that cost me all the savings. Wife feeding the dogs some blueberries and dropped one and it rolled under the stove and I'm on my hands and knees looking for it but it disappeared. Was in a funk this morning and nothing sounded good for breakfast. Non-stop raining for 5 days. Racing season is over. But hey, I'm still alive, still gonna take my dogs for a walk today and hockey season is here so I can look at the bright side and that should keep me going. 3

You have a point but remember what this particular column represents. Gives everyone a chance to tell of their frustrations. Sometimes you can relate and sometimes not. If not, then just go on bye and read something that you find interesting. 2

One of the things I really like about Publix is their rolling "buy one, get one free" specials, and they don't force you to buy two to get the 50% off deal. So I kinda plan my meals around what's on special. Pork stew is on the upcoming weekend's menu, because pork loins were the most recent meat special. Sometimes the deals are really great too, like when it's coffee. Anyone who buys it knows that 50% off is a lot these days...and I'm stocked up for at least a couple months. The other thing is that I NEVER buy any "junk food" or "snacks" unless it's 50% off, and then limit myself to only one of whatever it is. It's a good way to keep the creeping bloat in check without feeling "deprived" and save a few bucks at the same time. 3

One of my favorite comedians is Christopher Titus. Some of his humor is kinda dark but he said he was asked how he could make light of some of the tragic things in his life. He said its the difference between a paycheck and medicine at bedcheck! 1

I bought a giant bag (31 'murican ounces) of Chex Party Mix a couple weeks ago for $2.99. I told myself that I could not eat any of it in the house, but I would put a handful in a Ziplock to snack on during days at the office. I have held true to that, and am not buying garbage in the break room to snack on instead. 2

Being a 'health' insurance company, corporate wanted healthy alternatives in the breakroom vending machines. I asked the sale rep one day 'how are Doritos healthy snack?' He said look at the weight of the package. Ahhh.....that explains the proverbial three chips in the bag. Cut the serving size down to fit the guidelines. I'm the first to admit that when I want a snack I want garbage, not a banana or yogurt. The sales rep said the refrigerated ones had to be inspected twice a year by the Board of Health and were something like $5k more expensive than a regular vending machine.

I think Dan needs to let other Mods track this section for a while. Since I am still unemployed, I gripes go to her now. I try to gripe less. That said, I firmly Agree with Ace! I've found most perpetually Cheerful Folks to be some the least sensitive and unrealistic people in the world. Many of them are naive, dreamers wishing for a Better World (tm) but doing little to really improve things. Few of the Always Happy(tm) do much work. I've noticed that the most work gets done by even tempered people, followed by the motivated complainers. (not the perpetual complainers) As for me, I post often. I pick nits on kits. I praise kits. I share my thoughts on the industry (as I see it). I Try not be Too Negative. I post praise on builds of subjects that I like. I try to never slam anybodies work. That's all. 1
stitchdup Posted yesterday at 03:08 PM Posted yesterday at 03:08 PM Log in to the app. These words will be the death of mankind. Every stupid company has jumped on the ai powered help bandwagon and contacting anyone that can help has become impossible. Oh just use the app they all say, but if you dont have a smart phone the app doesn't work.If they think everybody has a smart phone they should think again. I dont need a phone thats a computer and camera too, I already have both those things and i'm not going to spend hundreds of pounds on something i rarely use (unless its model related) 6 1
TonyK Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago Xfinity did some upgrades to the neighborhood yesterday which meant no Internet/cable tv from around 6 AM to almost 6 PM. They informed us ahead of time but you don't know how long it will be. The wife works part-time from home so she ended up not working at all which results in no pay. I missed most of the hockey game on TNT. She wrapped presents and I read a book for part of the day. I will say this was just an inconvenience compared to the poor people north of us in Washington with all the flooding they're having.
rattle can man Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Al of my favorite sports are on different streaming sites I'd have to subscribe to. Try to stream a radio station to just listen and all you get is "due to league restrictions this broadcast is not availble in your area."

It was late enough on Friday they couldn’t send somebody to check the meter to see that there hadn't been a misread. They sent somebody to verify the readin and I definitely have a leak. I had to call someone to help dig to find the leak. The Grinch gave me an unwelcome present for Xmas. Definitely not what I wanted for Christmas. Followup. I had someone come and dig. The brass coupling connecting the pipe to the pipe to the meter had developed a leak. My plumber came and replaced it and the problem was resolved. 1
Rob Hall Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Not irked, but more amused...got this card in the mail today from my Cadillac dealer...a bit of glaring error on it..(hint: look at the car..) 2

Maybe it's a trade-in from their used car lot? OR an oversight from whomever gave the okay to go to print with the mailers? Either way, they are thinking about during this Holiday Season..

89AKurt Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago This IRK is because of 🤫politics🤫, so I cannot get into the weeds about why my "Governor" Hobbs (strike 1 for me) hates Architects/Draftsmen simply by reading a Senate Bill (2nd strike) that she managed to get passed. My mostly self-employed career was an "affordable" architectural Draftsman, now self-retired. My County (3rd strike) started providing "free" house plans several years ago, 3 different sizes, first version all had hip roofs which cost at least 30% more for the prefab trusses, because I pointed that out back then (another long story about that), the second round are Gable roofs. I know of one owner who got a set, and is currently backed into a corner, two permit extensions, then it expired, which means when they resume, it will cost more plus Engineering when demanded by the building department (4th strike). Anyway, heard a soundbite on the radio, from an (this would really be strike 5 if I named the agenda) advocate, stating that this law (6) encourages giving away "free" plans so you don't need an Architect or a Draftsman, the plans are pre-approved (7) because I know you have to walk on coals to get a permit for anything, the last two jobs I finished were additions (more long stories) that seared my self-retirement commitment (previous clients are begging me). Buried in the (8) it says everyone still has to pay for the permits for the process, that part is not "free" ... what a dumb thing to expect despite that being a talking point about waiving, don't get me going. The final paragraph CYA boilerplate lets them (9) completely off the hook. So that spun me up before coffee today, Architects/Draftsmen are the problem. The curse of getting old, back in the good ol' days.... this is my primary Irk permanently next door. I built my house, used to hear about "sweat equity"? I'm just now getting around to landscaping with rocks, and cutting back wildfire fuel on my property. Neighbor moved away about 6 months ago, basically abandoned everything. Whoops, strike 10! 😶 The middle tree, I sent them a Priority Mail letter asking why, no response.
