Reading such an irrationally paranoid comment like this about the internet that was posted on the internet is perhaps the most pluperfect example of absurdist irony I believe I've ever seen.......

now those are some fantastic big words that I just may work into social intercourse...

...and if I'm just doing photo editing and don't need the internet most times I unplug the modem.

That's not a bad idea.

I know there are IT security "experts" who will argue as to the benefit of this, but unplugging the network cable from the modem or router when you're not doing something on the web will in fact create what the IT dweebs call an "air gap", which is really just a silly high-falutin' way of saying there are no physical wires connected to your machine from the web at that point, so no threats can get in during the unplugged time.

The "experts" will also tell you that your network cable will not withstand constantly repeated connection and disconnection, which is complete BS. I've been doing exactly this with my own system now for years, and my network cable plug hasn't failed yet...over thousands of cycles.

Have had no problems doing that, you just don't do it ham-fisted. Also the primary for me is that I've got it on a separate electrical box so I turn it off to save energy. Like I said "cheapskate". But sometime turn off as many of those little parasites drawing power in your place and figure out the difference. It costs enough here in AZ to cool down the gates of hell without spending more then you have to on electricity. So if you save even just 4 or 5 dollars a month that's about a new Tamiya kit.

Nothing serious but a disappointment nonetheless. After reading mr68gts' post about bringing a couple of models along during his move I got all excited with the fact that there is a Meng D9R. I thought what a beautiful way to use the giftcard my daughter recently gave me. That enthusiasm got quickly deflated when I realized that it is 1:35.

Yeah, I know. There is some of the 35th stuff they're doing now that I'd willing pay some major dollars for in 1:25/24 scale like the Packard Limo that ICA does.

I always see modelers adding turn signal levers to there models, Why? No one uses them on the real cars!!!

I heard that. It's awful hard to use a cell phone, drive with the other hand and use the turn signal at the same time. I have seen people drive, smoke, cell phone and they are driving with their knees. Make me wonder where they will wreck.

I use my cell in the car only in hands-free mode, paired via Bluetooth to the car..  I have seen laptop desks advertised that attach to the steering wheel, so you can use your laptop while driving...seems dangerous.   I saw someone once using their laptop while driving and eating breakfast in traffic...they were drifting in and out of their lane.

No lie...I saw a lovely young lass the other morning in the lane next to me doing her makeup, talking on the phone (not hands free) and drinking a cup of coffee while driving. I think she had breakfast in there too (and an open laptop on the passenger seat) but when the car behind her got on his horn after she sat through all of the left-turn light (and her signal was NOT flashing), I believe she dumped the coffee in her lap. Time to sue McDonald's because it was hot.

Three weeks ago I decided to take my bike to work. I have to go over a large bridge to get there. Half way over the bridge sees me in the center lane. This woman in the right lane starts edging into my lane. I look over and all I can see is PHONE. No part of her face is visible. I hit my pathetic horn, nothing. I pull the clutch lever and let it roar!, nothing. The guy in the left lane see my predicament and backs off so i can move over. I do, then gun it and get in front of the woman in the large SUV [T-Blazer or something]. I hit the brakes and check her. She comes right up on me and blows her horn. I flip her off and pull over so I can start yelling my head off. She speeds away cutting off three cars in the process.

I will NOT be taking my bike to work again. Not sure how she can miss me on the bike. It's bright, shiny and has a large man riding it with loud pipes. I guess the phone is far more important.

I had the same problem, the one and only time I rode my old bike to work. I was actually forced onto the shoulder 3 different times the say day. They had to of heard me, the bike was LOUD! I am glad it is gone now. This area (Washington, DC) has far to much congestion to enjoy a nice ride.

I have NO idea how anyone could miss that monster. Those pipes look LOUD as heck as well.

I have no wish to be someones mistake. I've almost been killed several times with one incident causing me weeks in the hospital and many broken bones and worse.

My bike is for sale as we speak.

I've been riding since I was 17. In all that time I've been. HIT, dragged, run off the road, messed with, yelled at. I've had, bottles thrown at me. I was once pushed into an intersection by a woman and her Ford Escort's bumper.

Let's see. Cut-off, tailgated, sideswiped....... The list goes on. The only bike I have had any luck on was my old Knuckle. It was slow and loud and I think people actually felt bad for me when I rode it. But that was stolen and then found in a field. How the thief figured it out is anyone's guess. It was a kick only tank shift with bad brakes that rattled over 50. Starting that bike was an event. I loved it but even hard core guys used to shake their heads at it. After it lost oil pressure i parked it under the porch for 10 years. When I sold it, it fired up with good gas and the guy put it on a trailer never to be seen again. I miss that bike.

I can relate. I have a little old Kaw 600 set up as a cafe racer that I parked back in about '97 because the idiot density was getting so high around here. Hell, last time I drove my old Geo convertible here (before it went to AZ. to live as an airport car), some dizzy bidge in an Excursion almost ran over me, quite literally. I could see her yammering on the phone as she obliviously started squeezing me and my little car into the guard rail. No amount of beep-beeps, flashing lights, or increasingly rabid screaming on my part could rouse her lard-encrusted consciousness. Many thanks to the anonymous fella in the truck behind her who slowed enough to create a space for me to dip in between them.

I'm about to put my 550 Spyder replica back on the road, and I've already bought a set of air horns. I think maybe diesel train horns might be a good idea too...and strobes aimed to the rear.

Yes a LOT of people don't use their turn signals when they're driving, or this is one of my favorite peeves is when they have to "brake" before putting on their turn signal. LOL!!! Who ever taught drivers to do that? Or so called drivers put on their turn signals when they meet the intersection where they're turning. Why not just use their signal after they turn so people know where they've been? It is getting more dangerous on the roads everyday.

I wish you luck Bill, I truly do. A small car like that is always fun to drive, but is in the same catagory as a bike. A couple of fenders is really the only difference.

Your story is eerily similar to mine. I wonder how many stories there are out there that have the same tone.

My guess is way too many.

Just to add to the "phone in the face" frustration, I drive a school bus.  Last year I had ten stop-arm violations, eight of them were talking on the phone.  There was no legal action taken, because the "law" in NC is you must be able to recognize the vehicles driver.  If it is 6:20 a.m in January and it is raining, or the driver has not been on the road sufficient time to defrost their windows, how the h e double hockeysticks can you identify the driver.  Or if they have their huge screen IPhone 45 or whatever the latest one is stuck in their face it is almost impossible to even tell their gender.  So far I have been lucky and none of my kids have been endangered, but it is only a matter of time.

About 15 years ago I pulled out my 1973 Peugeot Tour de France 10 speed and decided I would start riding it again.  I put new tires and brakes on it and hit the local roads.  I gave up after a week because I was apprehensive the entire time I was riding, due to the behavior of cars on the road.  I rode as far to the right as possible, but cars still came at me fast at speed and other idiot moves.  I even had a passing car throw the remains of a Slurpy at me.  I put the bike back in the garage, it still hangs from ceiling hooks!

Here in Pennsylvania we are a no helmet state.  I'm amazed at the bikes on the turnpike blazing by at high speeds with no helmets.  I'm going 80 mph and passing a truck. Suddenly some crotch rocket blows past in the space between us!  He came within inches of my mirror. No helmet of course.   Last summer  we were on the turnpike again going 80, and a Harley with a man and woman blow past. Neither wearing a helmet.... worse yet both wearing shorts and flip flops!  My wife asked me what that was called. I told her a pair of organ donors!

I have ridden through many a helmet free state and I have always kept mine on. I only wear a small skullcap but it is DOT approved and I wear it at all times. I remember many rides into Rhode Island where everyone would pull over and take their helmets off. I always thought they were nuts. I do ride my skateboard without a helmet. And i paid for it once some years ago. I do not wear one still, but it is always in the back of my mind.

I was riding my Kawasaki on a 2 lane road through town. The opposing lane was blocked  by a car carrier unloading. There was a pickup stopped behind the car carrier. As I proceeded to pass the carrier, captain oblivious in the pickup gasses it, pulls into my lane and comes at me HEAD ON! I swerved to the narrow shoulder and sqeaked between the truck and the wall of the house on my right.

I seriously considered chasing that guy down and beating him silly. I was glad to be upright and in one piece

My low oil pressure sensor appears to have failed... and in doing so, has dumped most of the oil outta my engine. It's supposed to let you know when your oil pressure gets low... or when your low of oil... but apparently all it does is blow apart and dumps all the content out without you knowing...

What kind of vehicle are we talkin' about?
