What Irked You Today?

After carefully shopping for a new vehicle, washer, dryer, refrigerator, dish washer, etc. and making your choice by yourself or with the help of a salesperson, or reviews from the internet or elsewhere. Then the salesperson wants you to buy a warranty or an extended warranty. By doing so, you are making a money bet that your choice of the item you just purchased is going to break down. That is what's known as gambling and the store should have a casino license to sell you a warranty, because they are betting that your purchase will not break down. Capisce?

No.

I'm pretty miffed at not having been able to attend the PMS national convention this year. I had every intention of going, but things just fell apart over the last few months. The good news is, that I should have no problems at all attending both the 2016 and 2017 conventions.

Gambling? No, not really.  The store and the manufacture are willing to give you assurances that they build the product right.  They are not willing to do that forever and say so.  You are making a choice.  No one if forcing you to buy the warranty and you should base you decision on how much it would mean if you had to shell out money for repair or a new machine.  If you are on a limited budget and can't afford repairs or replacement, then you should buy the warranty.  If it wouldn't cause you financial hardship, then don't.  It is like any other insurance.  How much financial hard ship would it cause if an event happened.

By the way, there is one company who's warranty comes with something different.  The Sears maintenance agreement is different in that you can have a service tech come out every year and inspect and adjust your machinery to make sure it is working at peak efficiency.   I always told people about this and said that if they used that service, then they got more than their money back. If not they the value might not be there but that is a choice that they have to make.  No one else does that.  Is it worth it? That is up to you. But I use the heck out of it.  By the time I changed appliance as a general rule, I had more than got my money back.  Just my take on it.

On the subject of durability, yes the old machines were built more durable.  Plain and simple.  However the thirty year old refrigerator that you have running in the garage is probably over a third of your electric bill.  With the increasing price of electricity, people demanded more efficient appliances.  The engineering trade off is durability.  Your old refrigerator has a compressor system that could probably cool a four story building it is so oversized.  It didn't have to work as hard, but that comes at the cost of efficiency.  The new compressors are really amazing pieces of technology and are much lighter weight and run more frequently that the old ones.  They are just not going to last as long.  Efficiency generally means lighter components which translates to less durability.  No, they don't last as long, but that is what the public demanded and you and I get to pay for that.

About two months ago i  decided it was time to up grade my TV so yes I did my research and read many reviews on different brands of TVs well I found myself leaning towards the 50" Sony main reason was Sony has a great picture and more to offer for the $700.00 / $800.00 price range but they did not rate we'll ? has far has being reliable needing more repairs than some of the others ??

well the TV went on sale for $100.00 off bought the Sony and got the 5year warranty covers even the remote ? which to me the way to go because gee its Sony it very will just may fail with in 5 years But it has the BEST Picture ???

Any way just sayin I like the peace of mind trouble and worried free ?

OK... I give up on this new forum "upgrade."

A member asked me to rename a topic for him... I can't do it. Says "enter at least 5 tags and up to 4." Huh? Add "tags" to edit the title? Never had that happen with the old forum software

Quote function is crazy, won't let me edit quoted material.

Site doesn't display correctly on Firefox or Safari.

Can't figure out how to get rid of that right side column with calendar and birthdays.

When I try to edit my post I see a red "REQUIRED." What's required?

I've had it with software "improvements."

I'm so tired of software "upgrades" that don't make things any better, just different.

Every time they upgrade Photoshop or Indesign or any other graphics software (the stuff I use every day), they move stuff around for no apparent reason. A function that used to be here is now there, for no reason I can see other than software engineers changing things as a justification for keeping their jobs. The function worked perfectly well when it was here... why did they have to move it to there? Now I have to relearn where everything is, for no good reason other than change for the sake of change.

I get the same feeling here with this new "upgrade." Functions that used to work well are now gone. Used to be that I could see who was in a particular forum area by scrolling to the bottom and seeing a list of who was looking at that area. Gone. Used to be I could see how many warning points a member has right under his avatar. Useful for moderators. Gone. There used to be a link at the bottom of the page to the forum rules. Gone. When I click on the Gallery link, I don't see photos, I see black boxes.

Things that I knew how to do, suddenly I can't do them anymore. The site doesn't display correctly in my Firefox or Chrome (both are the latest versions). And I can't figure out how to get rid of that damn calendar/birthday column.

I've had it.

Be glad youndon't one of the new U Connect Access equipped Mopars then Harry, one more thing to update, I've heard that it can take anywhere from 20-45 min to run that in a 2015 200!

I have no idea what that even means.

U Connect Access is Mopar's equivalent to Ford's SYNC.

Still have no clue. What is "Sync?" Car connected to the internet?

BTW... can anyone tell me how to get rid of the upcoming events/birthday column on the home page? Used to be I could click that on and off. I see no way now of getting rid of it.

I have no use for any "infotainment system" in my car. No need to link a phone to my car. No need to connect an ipod to my car. None of that nonsense. All I want is when I turn the key, the car starts, runs well, handles well, gets decent mileage, and has decent handling/acceleration.

Does that make me "old fashioned?" I guess so. But all of this techno-crap they're loading onto cars these days seems awfully silly to me. I know I'm in the minority with that opinion, but whatever...

Another thing that's driving me crazy is how the quote feature here works now. You can't just quote one post, it seems like every time I quote someone, I get a whole string of quotes in my reply, whether I want them or not.

And also... why did my post about the quote feature appear in my previous post and not as a new post?

WHAT IS GOING ON HERE? WHY ARE ALL MY POSTS BEING MERGED INTO ONE?

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It seems to me that regardless of the time delay between posts, one of my posts followed by another (as in a thread update) gets merged to the previous post, assuming no one else has posted between the two. I can't seem to be able to defeat it either.

So, are we having fun yet, or what?

The quote feature is working very strangely for me also... I just did 'Submit Reply' and it quoted all my recent replies and quotes..had to delete the blocks..

As a hard core technology guy (software engineer) I enjoy new software and new features...when it works...but when it is buggy...and all software is buggy, just different degrees of it..

No, we are having a major case of being pissed off.

When I hit "Quote" and then try to delete all of the quotes I don't want to quote, my message window just disappears.

Sooooooo....... anybody out there who can tell me how to get rid of that "Upcoming Events/birthdays" column on the right side of the home page?

Anyone?

And again, my separate post has been merged into my previous post.
