Daddyfink Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Just going to leave this here! Enjoy! http://iwatchstuff.com/2013/10/tom-cruise-returning-to-cars-instead-of.php
Casey Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Sorry, got distracted by the failed Sarah Silverman pilot. Isn't Cruise like, almost a foot shorter than Shelby? It's not like there are any tall, native Texan actors out there with more charisma, personality, and appeal than Cruise to be cast instead... He probably turned it down knowing how bad it will probably be.
slusher Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Cruise as Shelby? Seriously? l have to agree with you l can't see Cruise in that role. He will look shorter in a cowboy hat...
sjordan2 Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 (edited) Harrelson or (agreeing with Casey) McConnaughey. Edited October 25, 2013 by sjordan2
Brett Barrow Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 l have to agree with you l can't see Cruise in that role. He will look shorter in a cowboy hat... I don't think ol' Shel wore a cowboy hat back in the GT40 era.
Daddyfink Posted October 25, 2013 Author Posted October 25, 2013 He originally wanted to play Enzo Ferarri in a bio pic about the Commendatore! He does have the nose for that one!
timc Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Well... there's another movie that I WON'T watch. Now if they were to use McConnaughey I would watch it. alright alright alright.
heinz74 Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Cruise did drive a 66 shelby mustang in war of the worlds.. i guess that's all the similarity he'll ever have with Caroll.. imagine Cruise having a texas accent.. knowing from what i've read about Caroll himself .it was a real character in the 60's..not your average guy..
Chuck Kourouklis Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Cruise is a freak but I've always liked his acting. McConnaughey would be sooo stupid better, though. Good call on that one.
oldcarfan Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Experience has taught me that even if the scenario for a movie sounds interesting, if Tom Cruise is in it I can just skip it. Saves both time and money.
ChrisBcritter Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 I have a better choice, but he doesn't have marquee value. Carroll Shelby, 1966: Actor Christopher Lawford in The World's Fastest Indian: I thoght he looked a lot like Carroll in that movie.
slusher Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 All the great classic actors are gone except Clint Eastwood...
zenrat Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Using Cruise will save money as they can use 1/18 die casts instead of real cars...
Greg Myers Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 (edited) I don't think ol' Shel wore a cowboy hat back in the GT40 era. Edited October 27, 2013 by Greg Myers
Brett Barrow Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Yeah, I ended up finding one of him in 67 at Le Mans wearing one, too. Even found an earlier one of him in his chicken farmer overalls and cowboy hat. So lemme rephrase that - "Ol' Shel didn't wear a cowboy hat all the time during the GT40 years..."
Greg Myers Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Here we go, I ain't dead moren' a year an they're already rewrittin the history books. Danged reversionist. guess they'll have me playin polo next. a guy makes his mark an everybody wants ta change it.
1930fordpickup Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Using Cruise will save money as they can use 1/18 die casts instead of real cars... Now that is funny right there.
Maindrian Pace Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 I always thought Shelby looked a little like Randolph Mantooth. -MJS
KingSix Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 I don't see the big deal. Barry Pepper made a good Dale Earnhardt , and he is much shorter than Earnhardt was. Funny, for a hobby that requires so much imagination, there sure seems to be a lack of it in this post ....
Custom Hearse Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Using Cruise will save money as they can use 1/18 die casts instead of real cars... Ooooh... OUCH!!!
Draggon Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Tom Cruise as Shelby would be like casting Joe Pesci as Enzo Ferrari.
sjordan2 Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Tom Cruise as Shelby would be like casting Joe Pesci as Enzo Ferrari.Short. Italian. Hook nose. Pesci can do anything.
