Modlbldr Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 (edited) Just posting a few pics of my chop job on my 40 Ford. I am wanting to get your opinion on how it looks. I am planning on a hardtop. Here's what I am using for inspiration. Comments welcomed. Later- Edited October 25, 2013 by Modlbldr
PappyD340 Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Well Tom do you want the good or the bad first, let's go with the good first it looks dang good to me I would say you did some very good body work, now the bad well TBH I don't see any, sorry Tom I just had to mess with ya a little, this one should turn out really NICE, I like it!! got a color picked out?
slusher Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Real nice work on the chop.Looking forward to watching your build..
Modlbldr Posted October 26, 2013 Author Posted October 26, 2013 Thanks guys for the kind words. I am thinking of a dark maroon similar to the magazine car. I've been working on the suspension for a while now and it still isn't low enough. More work on it tonight. I also need to do some work on my euro rebuilds. Later-
donb Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 The talent on this forum is awesome. I love looking at the workbench projects for this reason alone. Chopped tops! And you know what, the skirts are looking pretty good too.
James2 Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 You know I love the top! I like the reference your using also. For myself I like to see the skirts outline more than a molded in look, unless it's just the pictures.
Modlbldr Posted October 26, 2013 Author Posted October 26, 2013 Thanks for the great comments. It's very encouraging. James- the skirts will be flush mounted but will have the outline scribed in. Later-

Foxer Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Those photos really show the work you put into getting the roof to flow ... I say SUCCESS! Can't wait to see it in paint ..
codie27 Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 You've done a great job chopping the roof. Ill be following the progress on this one.
Modelbuilder Mark Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 Looking really really nice already.
Duntov Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 (edited) Interesting...this looks like the Matranga Merc of George Barris fame......what a car that was.......!!!! I have a resin version of it kicking around some place.....done by Jimmy Flintstone....some nice work..... http://www.kustomrama.com/index.php?title=Nick_Matranga's_1940_Mercury Edited October 30, 2013 by Duntov
Modlbldr Posted October 30, 2013 Author Posted October 30, 2013 Duntov- Thanks for the great comment. I'd be excited if it was compared to the Matranga Merc. In my opinion there is no better looking car from that time period. Later-
geemoney Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 Duntov- Thanks for the great comment. I'd be excited if it was compared to the Matranga Merc. In my opinion there is no better looking car from that time period. Later- agreed, Nicks car was my favorite, it existed for no more than a year or so, sad.
Modlbldr Posted October 30, 2013 Author Posted October 30, 2013 (edited) I got the suspension adjusted today. It will sit just a hair lower once it is glued. Right now the gaps in the chassis and floor aren't tight. I also got a quick coat of primer on to check the work. Later- Edited November 9, 2013 by Modlbldr
Modlbldr Posted November 2, 2013 Author Posted November 2, 2013 Spent some time last night working on this. I am planning to use the V8 engine from the Revell 32 five window but I can't find a dual carb intake to fit it. Anyone know of one that will fit? I reworked the seat pattern to replicate the one in the mag. It was a slow progress night last night. Later-
