Joe Handley Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 Got up this morning and saw that it snowed overnight... so I went out at 8 AM to shovel. After I finished I drove to McD to get a big cup of coffee in the drive-thru... got home, put the car away and felt like a job well done. Then it started snowing again! It's not like we got much snow Harry, it was barely enough to bother leaving the Jeep in 4wd.
charlie8575 Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 The Lovely Lori decided she did not want to drive this morning so I got to take the HHR to work. Holy ######!!! ###### traction control is crazy weird. I found I could drive better with it off than on. ###### brakes kept clicking on and off trying to find bite on the road. Turned it off and drove rally style to work. Much better when I have control. Not much snow, but icy. My mother had an Olds Intrigue with that. Sometimes it worked very well and did what you wanted. Other times, it worked too well and you'd either get into more trouble or couldn't get in trouble because you couldn't move, which creates a whole other set of problems. Charlie Larkin
Craig Irwin Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 "Bitter cold returns" is in the forecast for Christmas Eve, I am so over this.......
Maindrian Pace Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 What is this "snow" you speak of? -MJS
Joe Handley Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 Got a friend up in Lansing, MI and he sent me a text saying there were a bunch of areas that had no power, his Dad might get his back until after Christmas!

Harry P. Posted December 29, 2013 Author Posted December 29, 2013 It was in the 50s today. I swear, we have the craziest weather on the planet here in the midwest...
Tom Geiger Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 It was in the 50s today. I swear, we have the craziest weather on the planet here in the midwest... Same here in Eastern PA. And I celebrated by getting all the leaves off my pool cover!
Craig Irwin Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 It got to about 50 here too, and all the snow melted in last weeks monsoon and flooding. And guess what?...... I heard a mower running in the neighborhood!
Tom Geiger Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 I heard a mower running in the neighborhood! I didn't know it was warm out until I looked out the model room window and saw two kids outside wearing shorts! Oh, I use my lawn mower to shred leaves. Might have been mine you heard!
High octane Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 It was about May of '80, and I swear that I saw all four seasons in one day when working in downtown Chicago.
Harry P. Posted December 29, 2013 Author Posted December 29, 2013 Today the high was in the low 50s. Tomorrow night's low is supposed to be ZERO. I don't know if I should break out the grill or the snow shovel. From the 50s to ZERO in one day. Only in the midwest!
Joe Handley Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 Must be boring to live where the weather doesn't change like this!
Joe Handley Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 ZERO is not that exciting Joe. Depends on how icy the walk to your car is, things get awfully (and I mean AWFUL!) exciting awful quick.
Casey Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 Chicago, 1967, from the Hemmings blog: Look how the Buick(?) is plowed in, and was probably parked before the snow started accumulating, and the other cars are parked at least one lane off the curb due to all the snow built up in the parking lane. That was always fun to get out of with a RWD car.
crazyjim Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 Aaaahh - the snowstorm of '67. I remember it well. I walked several miles to the Jewel store for work and ended up staying there for 3 days. Slept on the cashier counters and fed pizza to the bakery oven. It was actually kind of fun.
Joe Handley Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 Too young for that mess (wasn't born 'til '76) and my folks were still in Iowa......and I think that was a matter of months before they got married. We also managed to miss out on '79 too, they had moved back to Iowa and had me while there and we didn't move here until right before Thanksgiving that year.
madhorseman Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 Hey Harry!! this topic title should probably be changed to the "C" word for the next few days.
Harry P. Posted December 29, 2013 Author Posted December 29, 2013 Oh yeah... the blizzard of '67! My dad left work the afternoon the blizzard started. He got home three days later. No joke. Lake Shore Drive, 1967. Hmmm... I know I left my car here somewhere...
