I always liked the Coffin...especially the cantilevered-roof and the overall lines.

Lately though, and unfortunately I suppose, the face has started to remind me of this...

the Lil Coffin/Dexter Demon was one of my favorites as a kid. any one remember the Hot Wheels cartoon from 1968/69. the Hot Wheels vs the Dexter Demons.

go to 3:16 for a good look at the Demon. if you can look at the whole episode, notice how detailed the cars are drown.

First Hot Wheels cartoon I've ever seen. Typical bad animation of the time, but the cars at least are fairly recognizable. Kind of cool for that reason alone. If it wasn't for that, the cartoon would have been unwatchable.

the Monogram version of the Lil Coffin is not the first "kitted" version of this car to be sold in plastic.

Any guesses on what model kit maker sold a version of the Lil Coffin without using the name Lil Coffin?

would you be asking about this one?

the whole cartoon was nothing but a commercial for Hot Wheels. if Hanna-Barbara had done it, it would have been a whole lot better cartoon; however, the cars would have been lost. ahh, the Jack Rabbit Special, the Demon, the Woodie......

and Greg is the winner again.

I have a couple of these so I can make the pre-Monogram version.

Wow, that looks like a cut rate Scooby Doo, was this another Hanna~Barbara cartoon?

No, but the guy in the lime green outfit was voiced by Casey Kasem, who also did Shaggy in Scooby Doo.

Please post a build thread when you do - I like seeing those sow's-ear-specials made into something resembling a real car!

So was the character of Tank. Mike Wheeler sounds like Tim Matheson, but IMDb lists someone named Michael Rye. Real kicker: Albert Brooks was Kip!

Very interesting stuff that I never knew! My favorite versions are the one kitted by Monogram and the early version with the Deuce radiator shell which looks pretty much like what Aurora kitted. Some of the other versions can cause severe eyestrain.
