We did a motorcycle escort yesterday to bring the Traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall to Dunnellon, FL. Police chief said about 150 bikes.  We rode to Ernie Mills Park and then stated setting up The Wall,  Finished about 12;30pm and then the mulcing & lanscaping was done by 3pm.  It looks really nice.  Marcia put some pics up in Facebook so I need to find them and share on my Facebook page.  My body is pretty sore today but I need to cut the grass at home.  My shift at The Wall starts today at 2pm.

Nick, Jim, Harry, Carl:

Thanks so much for your comments! I am so truly proud of her.

All she has every wanted to do since she was a child is be a Fighter Pilot ( Actually a astronaut but we all know where our space program is)

Graduated from the USAFA in 2006 and earned her wings at Wright Patterson AFB

Upon returning to the mainland she will no longer be behind the stick of the mighty fighting Falcon.

She has been assigned a position at the Pentagon in intelligence with the focus of air support ( can't tell you much more than that... I don't even know.... as it's classified)

The Military is her calling..... She serves every day with joy for our country and flag.

Thanks again gentlemen for your comments.... it means so much to me

Jimmy "RASS"

Ray, C,E, Ace, Charlie.

All of you guys are so awesome!!!! The response to my post gives me faith that their are still so many great people who respect and honor our Men and Women who serve our country.... At times it can be a thank less job. When AJ was living in Manhatten Beach, CA. She couldn't hardly go out in her uniform without getting hassled by some nut job... It got to the point where she would wear street clothes and change into uniform at the gym on base.

Most of her friends are Military...... Most Civilians her age don't get it.

When I have visited her I always get a chance to spend time with her friends and it's so refreshing to hear Yes Ma'am and Yes Sir..... Please and Thank You.

Great bunch of young people serving and protecting..... I'm happy to report we are in good hands!

Again thanks mates...... You guys get it..... It warms my soul!

Respectfully,

James Rasmussen. AKA Jimmy "RASS"

Jim,

Both of my kids were in JROTC in high school and their friends were in that same group, and the manners they were taught and the respect they show is very heartwarming to my wife and I. My son decided at age 22 to join the National Guard and is currently in boot camp at Ft. Leonard Wood Mo. The letters we get are funny as they are progressively getting more detail about what he is doing. Very proud of my son and his decision to join the military.

I think it is awesome that your daughter has chosen a career as a pilot and it must be fun for her to tell unsuspecting folks that she is a fighter pilot! Thank her for me for her dedication and service and all of her friends as well. Joining the military is not for everyone but most that do have a passion for it, I know that is true for my son.

Mike,

That is fantastic! From AJ and I thank your son for is commitment to serve. I'm sure you and your wife are so very proud!

I echo your thoughts on the manners and respect that is taught in programs like JROTC.

I had the same experience with the letters as well, I could feel and sense the growth with each letter.

So they are kicking his butt up, down and sideways around Ft Leonard. The first time see your son or talk to him on the phone after boot camp he will be a changed MAN, the transformation is incredible.

Mike, thanks for sharing your story with me and for the support.... It is truly a honor to have a child who serves. I'm happy that he found his calling, it will serve him well!

With much respect!

Far as I can tell, most civilians of any age don't get it. Military involvement changes your world-view and helps to give you a much more realistic big-picture outlook (assuming you're paying attention and thinking about what you see and experience).

And last time I traveled by air (about 60 days back) I noticed the uniformed military personnel were across-the-board polite, courteous and acted like the kind of adults who would make the world a generally much more pleasant place to inhabit. Not so for the majority of civilians, unfortunately.

There are a fair few military personnel in my area, and a fair few of them are pilots, aircrew or ground crew. Without exception, they're always among the most pleasant and realistic people to deal with.

If I were still physically wearing the USAF blue I would be proud to salute your daughter.  I served 21 years as an airplane fixer - everything from avionics to welding cracks in engine pieces.  Our pilots are the best, bar none.  Next time you speak to her, thank her for me for her service and continuing the USAF mission.  A female fighter pilot simply shows the world our USAF is "Sierra Hotel".

I picked up a kid (to me they are all kids) who just transferred to the Las Vegas office. USMC with three tours in Afghanistan. A mountain of a man who is an absolute treasure. Calm, cool and polite to a fault. I know his type, he always has a plan to kill everyone in the room. ;)

Ed I took this a few years ago when I had better use of my right arm. Very hard for me to take pictures. It's time to bring in the Hummingbird feeders so they will go south. Going to miss the sword fights and fly bys when watching them...

Nice Catch Carl. I didn't know about your Arm, sure hope it's as bad as it's gonna get. Any chance on it gettin' better?

I have Feeders out here also. For the last 5 weeks I had to bring'em in at Night. Otherwise these folks would come by and drain'em:

Spent the weekend at The Wall in Dunnellon, FL.  We started the motorcycle escort on Thursday morning with a rainbow and ended Sunday afternoon with another rainbow.
