High octane Posted May 29, 2017 Posted May 29, 2017 Seeing Scott Dixon unbuckle and crawl out of the tub of his car at Indy on his own.Yes, that was a blessing after that horrific crash.
russosborne Posted June 6, 2017 Posted June 6, 2017 I started a new job last Friday. It is Fri, Sat, and Sunday, 6am to 6:30 pm. Not great pay, and I hate 6am, but after not working for what, 8 months or so I can't complain. And 3 days a week is better than 5 with those hours. Not a tech job, but assembly and testing of tasers. So it still is basically electronics. Company is Axon, used to be Taser. Temp job, may go permanent after so many months.Hoping this one lasts for a while at least.Russ

Ace-Garageguy Posted June 6, 2017 Posted June 6, 2017 I started a new job last Friday... Not a tech job, but assembly and testing of tasers.... Glad to hear you got something, and hope it works out for you. Rough hours though, and I hope you don't have to test the Tasers on yourself.
Rob Hall Posted June 6, 2017 Posted June 6, 2017 (edited) Happy to have made it to Ohio in one piece. 2099 miles, 2 people, 6 dogs. 46 hours of driving. Jeep drove great, not much damage from the drive, just grubby. Edited June 6, 2017 by Rob Hall
cobraman Posted June 6, 2017 Posted June 6, 2017 Not today but this past Saturday. The wife and I spent the night at the Talking Stick Resort in Scottsdale. Had tickets to the Tim Allen show that evening. Place was packed. Standing room only and there were plenty of people who paid to stand. He was pretty funny at times but I will admit to expecting more. He sure likes to throw the "f" word around. The comic before him to warm up the crowd was very funny ( I failed to catch his name ). All in all it was a pretty good evening.

Rob Hall Posted June 6, 2017 Posted June 6, 2017 Talking Stick is nice....a company I used to work for held their holiday parties there every year and paid for hotel rooms for the night.
cobraman Posted June 6, 2017 Posted June 6, 2017 Our room overlooked a parking lot ! If we were going to use the room for more than sleeping one night I would have complained about the 225.00 the room cost. Thirty minutes or so from my house, maybe I should have just driven home. : )

waynehulsey Posted June 7, 2017 Posted June 7, 2017 Monday morning, annual physical poke and prod time: Tuesday morning jury duty downtown had to go all the way to final route on a armed standoff-police shooting case which would have been a couple of weeks, but escaped at last cut; Wednesday morning, nothing, sitting at the desk goofing, cats well played with and fed--we happy.

Glad to hear you got something, and hope it works out for you. Rough hours though, and I hope you don't have to test the Tasers on yourself. thanks, guys. The 4 days off thing sounds nice, but it is giving me too much time to think about the job. Job really isn't bad I guess, just not what I spent over 20 years doing, plus getting an AAS degree in, as well as my 6 years of Navy electronic. And definitely not the sort of job I imagined having to do at 57. But at least I am working again. Been tasered once, about 13 years ago. Wasn't really voluntary. Russ
russosborne Posted June 8, 2017 Posted June 8, 2017 Good luck with your new job Russ, and of course with being off on Mon. - Thurs. you could also look for something better if you want. Thanks. I am doing that a bit, just not much around here. Good thing is I have lots of days for doctor appointments for me and my wife, with our recent history we are both going to an appointment fairly regularly. Also looking into going back to school, not for a job, I am way too old for that, but for some fun stuff, like some music classes. I play bass guitar some, would like to know more of what I am doing. Or welding, I have lots of rust repairs to make on a car I have. Russ
James2 Posted June 8, 2017 Author Posted June 8, 2017 I to have found one of those jobs! Some what out of my comfort zone and traveling weekly is not my fav, but it is a good job. This week my Wife and daughters came to visit, spent a few days with me and my youngest stayed. Makes things better...
Tom Geiger Posted June 8, 2017 Posted June 8, 2017 I had an interesting thing happen today, right out of left field.I've always had access to CAD. In fact I had always done the NNL East planning on CAD floor plans. I had the entire building in the system, very accurate, so when I moved tables around and such, it worked in the real world. I lost that access, and the drawing when I left a job 7 years ago. Since then I've been doing cut and paste on printed floor plans that were getting rather messy. About a month ago I decided that I needed a CAD program and started looking for something free to cheap. I wasn't having much luck. This morning I was at work and my computer hesitated and one of those "Loading..." messages came up. I figured I was getting another useless patch or something. Yea, IT is known for pushing this stuff out in the middle of a presentation or other inconvenient time! But I couldn't believe my eyes when it said "Loading AutoCAD". Twenty minutes later I was playing with a sketch. Yea! I don't know why I got this since it's not required for my job, nor did we request it. Rather interesting, but I'm not going to question a good thing!
Ace-Garageguy Posted June 9, 2017 Posted June 9, 2017 (edited) The catbird family nesting in a thicket outside a window at home raised two kids and moved away. I was lucky to see both little ones as they took their first tentative fluttering crashes through the branches and fell to the ground. Even though I've been feeding the neighborhood cats enough to keep them fat and happy, I was apprehensive that such tempting snacks as little birds might not last for long, but I've since seen a kidbird following mombird around, still begging for food, so I guess at least one of the offspring made it. Tom Geiger Posted June 9, 2017 Posted June 9, 2017 Are you running LT or the full deal? They gave me the full deal! Not that I need it, LT would have been more than sufficient for my plan view floor plans!
Ace-Garageguy Posted June 10, 2017 Posted June 10, 2017 They gave me the full deal! Not that I need it, LT would have been more than sufficient for my plan view floor plans! That's a pretty sweet deal for free.I've been running SolidWorks Pro for some time. It's probably a lot more than I need these days, but even doing only one or two formal design jobs a year pretty well justifies the expense. It's one of those cases where I'd rather have a tool and not need it than need it and not have it.
charlie8575 Posted June 12, 2017 Posted June 12, 2017 I've given serious thought to taking a CAD class. If all else doesn't pan out, I honestly wouldn't mind doing my own design work, or working doing that.I turn in my key tomorrow, and I don't want to do it like this, but five of eight weeks not being paid on-time or paid in full, with a generally-deteriorating workplace relationship is all I can take.I've decided to look into going back into teaching, and have applied to a few schools. I'm keeping my options open for a few things, ranging from re-starting my business (and one of the reasons I'm looking at taking a CAD class,) to going back into real estate in some capacity, as well as a few tide-me-over things while I sort it all out.Charlie Larkin
Rob Hall Posted June 15, 2017 Posted June 15, 2017 My experience with the Ohio BMV and title office went very smoothly this morning...got my Ohio driver's license, Ohio title, registration and plates for my Jeep, and went to the local Jeep dealer to get a front plate bracket installed (didn't have one in AZ). All very smooth, minimal waits, started at 8am and was home by 10:45am....happy happy...
waynehulsey Posted June 19, 2017 Posted June 19, 2017 Gee, Rob you're going to miss the possibility of 120 degree temperatures!
Rob Hall Posted June 19, 2017 Posted June 19, 2017 Gee, Rob you're going to miss the possibility of 120 degree temperatures!I can live it vicariously through my sister..she's there overseeing some remodeling on my house before it goes up for sale..
landman Posted June 19, 2017 Posted June 19, 2017 Not sure why that stayed there from before. Anyway, Went to a Father's Day car show on the weekend with my sons-in-law and my grandson. Boy's day out.
