This includes customizers, hot rodders, and even just automotive/motorcycle designers, past and present. Please post up some fine examples of their work.

NOTE: if this turns into a bash-the-builder-fest (yes even Jesse James) I'll delete the post.

I'll start off with Sam Barris, brother of George, 1924–1967. He started Barris Kustoms with his brother and is responsible for some of the most amazing and subtle custom cars ever made.

The Hirohata Merc, arguably one of the most influential customs of all time.

This beautiful '50 Buick.

The Blue Danube '52 Buick.

And Sams personal '49 Merc.

For builders working now, Foose has to be among the best of the best. His 2005 Ridler-winning "Impression" is NOT a '36 Ford; every part is specially designed and hand made for this car. The craftsmanship, attention to detail, and design are as good as it gets, anywhere.

The Ayala brothers were working around the same time as Barris, and built much of this '29 Ford roadster for Eddie Dye. This is my absolute all-time favorite "traditional" hot-rod.

Wow. I expected more participation on this one from this group. We got plenty of Leowy, Starbird, Roth fans here.

Maybe its because of the "no bashing" rule?:D:lol:

Great stuff Ace. I agree with all the stuff you posted.

I'd like to add a few more if I may, with Delahayes from coachbuilders Figoni & Falaschi

and yes, Boyd Coddington

Current designer Ian Callum, responsible for Aston Martins and this gorgeous Jag (he's also a hot rodder BTW, owns a '32 3-window)

'Bentley Boy', Woolf Barnato. sketched out this Speed Six, the coachwork is by Gurney Nutting. The single back seat faced sideways due to the fastback design. I used to see this car, and met it's then owner. at our local Bentley Drivers club pub meeting, when I used to go with my Dad back in the seventies. I alwys used to say it was my favourite car, still love it/

I have to agree with dieseldawg142 (Dan Smith). The work on that truck is about as good as it gets. Anybody who wants to know how stuff that's done right looks...well, you need to read through the link he's posted.

Gordon Buehrig.

Scott

I think I kind of misunderstood the point of this thread at first, when I posted the above. Buehrig was the designer of the Cord 810/812. But not the builder. Builders? I guess the Alexander brothers or Starbird.

For me, it was the guys I grew up reading in Rod & Custom and Rod Action in the '60s and '70s - mainly Tex Smith, Bud Bryan, and Spence Murray, following the progress of their many project cars.
