bogger44 Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 I don't think I've ever posted this build before. I was doing some cleaning, and afterwards decided to take this bird outside for a few pics. It is not a recent build however, but was built back in the summer of 1996. I was fresh out of high school and my dad was battling cancer. He was sick enough to the point where he was unable to build his models anymore and had asked me if I would build the B-58 for him. I gladly obliged, and dug it out of his stash. I did the best I could at the time (I was 18) and got it done in a couple months. He was happy with how it turned out and proud of the work I did, which made me feel good in return. He ended up passing away that October, so I was extremely happy that he got to see it finished, as it was one of his favorite birds of all-time, as it is mine, too. As for the build it is box stock, and believe all the paint is Testors. It has withstood the test of time pretty well, only having to reattach a few bits that had broken off. I wouldn't mind finding another one of these to build some day, even though it's size takes up a lot of acreage. Anyways, on to the pics....
Ace-Garageguy Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 I agree with your dad...one of my all-time favorite birds too. Beautiful model. Glad you got to finish it for him.
unclescott58 Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 Very nice. I'm glad you and your dad got to enjoy it together in the end. Scott
slusher Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 Great looking plane Tony, does not look old. Sorry about your dad and I lost mine at 18 also.
Harry P. Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 A beautiful model and a great story. The fact that your dad got to see it finished is priceless. This model must mean a lot to you.
GLMFAA1 Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 Nice build and agree with the consensus all time favorite bombers, Amazing that the engineers at Convair made this after the B36, it seems to be the Chevy truck division doing the Corvette. A plane that has motion in it even standing still It is a great bond to be able to share hobbies with your father greg
bogger44 Posted October 17, 2014 Author Posted October 17, 2014 Thanks guys. Yeah this model is a little more special to me than all my others, hopefully I can keep it in good shape for many years to come. The design of this plane just screams speed, still pretty amazing this bomber flew from LA to NYC in just a tick over 2hrs.
Snake45 Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 Very, VERY nice! Not many people actually get that model built. You did, and good for you! Model on!
Nacho Z Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 I have a few airplanes in my stash and this is one of them. I agree with everyone else, what an awesome jet. I really like yours, you did a great job on it.
Dave Van Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 Nice work!!! It's the only Monogram big bomber kit I don'y have....need one.
mustang1989 Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 Man Tony! That's as good a story as the build looks! She's a beauty!
