gordon Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 Won this kit at a model event raffle. Never built a show rod before but do remember the glory days of "Autoramas" and decided to try and capture that feeling. Found the kit to be a challenge because of the chrome and glue points especially the the crown cage around the 'bag' . Alclad to the rescue. All chrome was redone. For the crowns 'bag' I used flocking and then airbrushed it. I epoxied jewels everywhwere they would fit. I wired the engine To go back to the show rod circuit of the past I created a base and put down some complementary carpet, chains and stanchions to keep the crowds back and some must have trophies. Using Coreldraw I created the credits display board.
TooOld Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 Great looking Royal Rail and a great display too ! Very nicely done .
unclescott58 Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 I dislike the car. But, I appreciate the job you did on this model. It looks great (for what it is). Scott
Draggon Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 Thats a great job on this thing! I got stymied at the chrome, stripped it, and now cant decide between allclad or sending it to chrometech.
TimKustom Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 super nice build! looks like you had a lot of fun with it.
Greg Pugh Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 Nicely done!!! That is so cool! Where did you get the stanchions?
gordon Posted November 1, 2014 Author Posted November 1, 2014 Thank you all for your comments. I have added some more photos To Unclescott58, I would not have chosen this car if shopping at my local hobby shop but I won it and thought it be a challenge, therefore lemonade from a lemon. To Draggon, give Alclad a go, it is a great product. To Gpugh1976, I made the stanchions from plastic cake decorations, added a metal washer to the bottom and an eyescrew to the top for the chain to travel through. Cheers Eh!
robertw Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 I am impressed. I started work on the same kit when it was recently reissued and quickly got frustrated so back in the box it went. Maybe your sucessful build will inspire me to dig mine out during the long winter ahead. I also like that you've gone to the extra work of building a display base for it, well done. rob
Chromecop Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 WOW! That's one of the best Royal Rails I've ever seen built!
