afx Posted May 21, 2016 Author Posted May 21, 2016 (edited) Suzanne Vega - 99.9 F° The sound of this album is heavily shaped by her husband/Producer Mitchell Froom but it's one of my favorites. Edited May 21, 2016 by afx
Mike C Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 (edited) Here's a couple: The Two Sides of Peter Banks: And Godbluff: Both from the 70's when I was in college which is where I got turned on to this kind of music. Edited May 25, 2016 by Mike C
JollySipper Posted August 19, 2016 Posted August 19, 2016 I discovered this album a while back, it's Primus covering the soundtrack to "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory".......... The whole album has a disassociated kinda surreal feel to it, just like the movie! You guys should look it up on your favorite music listening site.............
Mike C Posted August 19, 2016 Posted August 19, 2016 (edited) Here's another obscure album to add: Edited August 19, 2016 by Mike C
JollySipper Posted August 19, 2016 Posted August 19, 2016 I know the father of one of The Mars Volta drummers........
Mike_G Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 (edited) I bought this album in virtually unplayed condition at the Goodwill for $1https://www.youtube.com/embed/x9Qh7SLLxIA?list=PLfBdeZiZlAhRL9gZUoXyIz6lPp48qpkst" Edited August 20, 2016 by Mike_G
sjordan2 Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 (edited) "Into the Wild" by LP (Laura Pergolizzi). You'll recognize the title track from an insurance commercial of a couple of years ago with a pretty rock climber ascending to the stop of a stone pinnacle, with lyrics saying "Somebody left the gate open." This woman has octaves, and the album is all winners. "Tokyo Sunrise" is a highlight. Edited August 23, 2016 by sjordan2

JollySipper Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 Here's yet another album by Les Claypool........ He builds bands just so they can make an album together, then he moves on to other projects. He has been quoted as saying "Play as much as you can, as often as you can, with as many different people as you can, it's they only way you can learn and grow." Anyway, this group is called Colonel Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains, the album is The Big EyeBall in the Sky..... it consist of Les on bass, Bernie Worrell on keys, Buckethead on guitar, and Brian Mantia on drums....... Google "Elephant Ghost" and give it a listen..........
afx Posted November 3, 2016 Author Posted November 3, 2016 (edited) Tom Waits won't appeal to everyone but he is one of my favorites. One of his best know albums is "Mule Variations". Edited November 3, 2016 by afx
Pete J. Posted November 3, 2016 Posted November 3, 2016 Switched-On Bach by Walter Carlos All Bach songs performed on the Minimoog synth.I've got that one in my vinyl library!
Pete J. Posted November 3, 2016 Posted November 3, 2016 Most people know Wynton Marsalis as a great jazz trumpeter, but before he was known for that he was one of the worlds greatest classical trumpeters. His album Gabrial's Garden is one of my favorites. Great music to build with!
afx Posted November 21, 2016 Author Posted November 21, 2016 (edited) David Byrne - Self Titled. IMHO this album stacks up against any Talking Heads' album you care to name. Edited November 25, 2016 by afx
JollySipper Posted November 25, 2016 Posted November 25, 2016 I just discovered this group today. It's QOTSA's singer/guitarist Josh Homme, Dave Grohl of Nirvana/ Foo Fighters fame, and John Paul Jones on keyboards and bass (yes, THAT John Paul!). They call themselves Them Crooked Vultures........ Here's the album art from their debut album...... I haven't had a chance to listen to the whole album yet, but what I've heard sounds Awesome...........
Dodge Driver Posted November 25, 2016 Posted November 25, 2016 I'll enthusiastically second 'Mule Variations' by Tom Waits. At least 6 fine songs on that one.I'll also add 'Into the Pandemonium' by Celtic Frost. It's considered metal, but there's also an operatic/orchestral flair to it.
JollySipper Posted November 25, 2016 Posted November 25, 2016 That song isn't bad! "New Fang" is the one that got them some airplay, though.............
TarheelRick Posted November 25, 2016 Posted November 25, 2016 From back in my "experimentation" days while serving with the USAF in Thailand, one of my friends introduced me to Osibisa. There are a couple of really mind-gathering rifts on this one.

There are a couple of really mind-gathering rifts on this one. The Goodness of this music kinda sneaks up on you........ It's more of an experience than a listen...... Thanks for posting them, I've found a new band to discover!
afx Posted November 27, 2016 Author Posted November 27, 2016 I would bet Roger Dean did the art work. Very reminiscent of the work he did for various Yes albums.
