Howard Cohen Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 Some of you may have heard but for those who have not...Ross Gibson, master modeller and resin engine caster, passed away last week after a short illness. Here are a few of Ross' builds from years past.
FASTBACK340 Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH…. hate hearing stuff like this. Condolences to his friends and family. While I never knew or met him, I have been a customer of his for many years. Thank you for your services & RIP Mr. Gibson
vintagercr Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 I'm sorry to hear of his passing. Howard was it sudden?
Guest Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 Oh my. His engines were top notch. My condolences to his family.
Ace-Garageguy Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 (edited) That is sad. No more beautiful workmanship from a talented and highly skilled craftsman. His engines were a great benefit to the hobby. He'll be remembered. Edited December 21, 2014 by Ace-Garageguy
Sport Suburban Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 My condolences also, he was a good guy. He had found one of my builds online were I said some really nice things about his engine kit that I used. He contacted me privately, complemented my build and thanked me for what I had posted. We had talked off and on for awhile about projects and he sent me some resin items that he cast but did not sell commercially. I wish I had met him personally as he seamed to really care about this hobby.
vettecote Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 I bought his resin pieces from him directly. Always seemed nice and helpful. Will be missed! R.I.P Ross...Joe
Custom Hearse Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 I corresponded with him a few times and we discussed different combinations that could be made from the different engines. He was a great guy and we had some laughs... I'll miss him! Rest In Peace Ross.
geetee66 Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 Sad news. I've got a couple of his engines waiting to be used in builds. I'm going to try and honour his memory by installing one in my next project, as a tribute.
lordairgtar Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 Often considered the best aftermarket engines. condolences to his family
1972coronet Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 My condolences to Mr. Gibson , his family , and his friends . I bought one of his beautiful 1968-1971 340 / Torqueflite kits (includes both water pump / timing cover pieces : 1968-1969 ; 1970 & later . Talk about attention to details !) , and am going to eventually employ it in one of my pending MoPar A-body builds .
charlie8575 Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 That's too bad. I'm playing with a Sono-Ram 383 now. Does anyone know if someone will pick up production? Charlie Larkin
Jeremy Jon Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 Sad news to ever hear about happening to anyone, RIP Ross!
MeatMan Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 My condolences to his family as well. I'm currently building one of his engines now for my probably will never be finished XLR. He offered engines no one else did and I'm having a ball working on it. Kinda puts things in perspective in life.
johnbuzzed Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 Whoa... I wrote to him many years back in regards to a B1 for a Pro Mod Superbird that I had planned. We kidded around about my intended "sponsor" for that build (Fredericks of Hollywood) and he wondered if Gates or Goodyear would be supplying "belts and hose(s)...". I guess you had to be there. I still have the engine; now, I have the impetus to build and use it. RIP, Ross.
Erik548 Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 (edited) I'm going to try and honour his memory by installing one in my next project, as a tribute. why dont we do a community build in memory of ross Edited December 24, 2014 by Erik548

FASTBACK340 Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 One of Ross' resin 440 with a set of long rams. Amazing detailing….. Ross' 340-6 Bbl. with the correct previously mentioned 68-specific water pump.
426-Hemi Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 I'm not all that familar with Ross Gibson, but I got to ask, anyone know how old he may have been? I'm sure he will be missed no less!
Howard Cohen Posted December 31, 2014 Author Posted December 31, 2014 Ross was 59 when he passed away
dimaxion Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 One of Ross' resin 440 with a set of long rams. Amazing detailing….. Ross' 340-6 Bbl. with the correct previously mentioned 68-specific water pump. I am sad Ross is gone . He will be missed . I have a question about the '68 Barracuda 360 V/8 with the specific '68 Water Pump . Please correct me if I am wrong . SB MoPars are a bit of confusion for me . It is my understanding , 1967 was the inaugural 340 . It had the Distributor located in the back as the 318 . It was a new Engine series not from the BB Engine 318 , but a enlargement of the 273 V/8 . Which was derived from the 318 Light weight of 1965 , while not Poly Head design . It was a new light weight , dimensionally smaller than the 318 BB . The 6 bbl 340 was introduced in the '79 MY . The 360 was an Engine developed for Smog in the '70's . IIRC , the '73 MY it was introduced . Possibly 1972 . The location of the distributor was the front . Would someone correct my confusion as something just does not add up . Thanx .
