I have very few boxes at all right now. We just moved, and because of bugs I moved all of my kits to gallon sized freezer bags. I carefully put the instructions facing the outside so I could tell what was what. Then all of my kits were packed into plastic bins. The boxes got trashed. I've bought a few kits since, but the boxes will also probably end up in the trash when they're done.

The vast majority of mine are being used to store completely unbuilt, unstarted kits. The ones that came in them. True story.

If a box is older and in good condition, I will fold it up to save space. I have a whole mess of boxes stored this way in a couple of moving boxes. Newer kit boxes, especially stuff I have multiples of and damaged boxes go into recycling.

I do have some of my favorite boxes on display, full or empty!

Hey Dan. Are those your old PYRO boxes?

You betcha. Plus a bunch of Hot Wheels and Wheels of Fire boxes! B)

For built models--

Newer, common boxes get trashed, especially if I have multiples of that kit.

Older, cooler ones are used for storage--2 built models to a box, or parts.

If a model that I've finished comes out good enough IMHO to enter in a show or contest, I'll use that model's box to transport it with padding to the show's location with other models, all in a larger box with a handle. The larger box can hold up to 6 kit boxes. That way I know which car is in which box. Once the car is "retired" from shows, the box goes to recycling with all of the other empty boxes.

I used to do that but it was dangerous! I'd bring models to shows and club meetings in interesting old boxes. People didn't know that and thought I bought a kit at the show, as I was packing up. More than once someone picked up a box to look at it!

No one touches my boxes but me...!!! When the model is put out on the show table, the box goes back in the larger box, which then gets closed up and placed under the table that my model(s) is on. I've fortunately never had anyone touch any of my stuff at shows.

I fold them up and store them in a moving box sort of container. I keep the instrux and any notes I made while building it in the folded up box. One moving box holds fifty or so folded up boxes so its not like it gets out of hand very quickly. there have been times I have gone back and pulled out the box either to look at or to look inside at the instrux. plus if its low impact spacewise, I like to keep the original packing for stuff...I learned that the hard way a few times, with Dinky Toys for instance. everything is eventually valuable, and the more complete it is, the more valuable it is. I think that's the overlying lesson of the ebay experience.

When I am finished building a model, the first thing I do is put all of the left over parts into my storage parts bins.

Next, I will write the date the model was finished on the inside of the box & then fold them up & store in a drawer.

From my first generation of building I have nothing. Now I keep most everything. When I have enough box tops they will wallpaper my hobby room or garage-at least that's the plan. Until then they store parts and acquired builds or are just saved.

I have still a lot of them and I don't throw them away. But sadly the take to much space. As far as I still own my garage, they are good in it. But after I moved 180 miles away from my garage it will be a problem, if I won't get a garage in my new area, that isn't large enough to store them further on. Won't think about it now.

I cut off the end panel and make notes on the back,...

What I did, and the problems with the kit,...

The end panel of the kit I'm working on covers my small glasses of

Water, Turps, and Lacquer thinner to slow down evaporation.

Those end panels go into another box with all my

Decal sheets and instructions,......

Wierd

We spray the ends of a stack of them with gray spray paint.

Labels are made indicating the contents. Boxes are then shelved

together providing easy content access for kitbashing.
