Miatatom Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Several folks have mentioned unfinished models/projects. So far, I don't have much of a batting average either, mostly due to paint issues. I'm getting better though. What's your batting average.
martinfan5 Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Just guessing here, but I would say I am around 90%-95% finished.
atomicholiday Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 I wouldn't want to guess at a percentage, but I'm pretty sure it's low. Seems like something always stops me. Either I get to a point that I'm not sure what to do, or inspiration will strike with another kit and whatever I'm working on gets put on hold.
Bennyg Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Depends if I stuff it up. Won't get finished if I damage it too much. Ben
disabled modeler Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 I would normally get 100% done but I also have a huge batch that needs parts to restore them and cant find/afford them so my average is way off. They sit till the parts are found they need....
Chuck Most Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Not counting ones that fall prey to some sort of catastrophic mishap during the process, 100%.... eventually. It may happen ten years after I start, but it WILL happen. Count the catastrophic mishaps... that number falls to about, oh, 50 to 60 percent.
chunkypeanutbutter Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 I'll say 60%, because I start every kit but never finish it.
Snake45 Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Prolly ten percent. Maybe 20. Whatever the exact number is, it's absolutely shameful.
crazyjim Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 100%. I finish every kit I start and in a timely manner.
tubbs Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 I'll say 60%, because I start every kit but never finish it.sooooo, wouldn't that be 0% miles?well, that is where I am at. a big fat ZERO. there is always something that I want to do to them.
Jantrix Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 I'd say 90%. Even if I put a project away, it will still get completed someday. However if my custom design does not come out as envisioned, and it is unlikely to be achieved, I will totally scrap or trade away the project. Also a poorly fitting kit will very likely end up as scrap.
Rob McKee Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 I would say 25% of the project I start get finished. Not a good number, but this is just a hobby after all.
chunkypeanutbutter Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 sooooo, wouldn't that be 0% miles?well, that is where I am at. a big fat ZERO. there is always something that I want to do to them. No, they get 60% finished.
Ramfins59 Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 I'd guesstimate about 95% of my started kits will eventually get finished.
Foxer Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 You familiar with the Mendoza Line? I'm well below average, but having fun and I work on something every day and fully enjoy it .. when I feel like it. That's a hobby ... "When a kit's built, you have nothing to build" Modeling is ALL about building, not finishing as fast as you can.
Quick GMC Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 0 I have never completed a kit 100% in the last 8 years. I have posted 2 in the completed section, but one was missing mirrors and the other a hood. I have a very nice one I am building that is 95% complete, but I broke an A pillar and threw it in a box. I'll get back to it some day. I am constantly building. I think I have about 35-ish models, about 25 of them in progress at varying stages. I enjoy building and detailing. Painting has been my downfall. I always get dust or polish through and I don't have the patience or interest to strip and fix, so I just start with a new kit. I think some day, these will all come together and instead of several years of building a bunch of stuff half way, I will be finishing all of them. Hopefully. If not, I still have fun building.
Pete J. Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 There is a lot to be said for the unfinished kit. Why they happen is often a mystery. I currently have three kits in process. They will all get done eventually. They always do. I am by nature a slow builder, often prodded on by a contest to finish something but always good to have something on the bench. I can's say 100% get done as long as there are unfinished, but there is really only on that has been in that state for a long time. I started it in my Mom's hospital room, before she passed, and it is really hard to get back to. The rest get done.
jbwelda Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 pretty much 100%. what I start I finish unless there is some major big problem and even then it just gets set aside until I get up the courage to face it headon and get it finished. might be a few years though jb
BubbaBrown Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 O%, I work on them till they make me mad, then they go up on the shelf and I dig one of several hundred out and go back to work. Losing interest and waiting for paint probably stalls more except for BMF.
