Jantrix Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 I'm sure George Trosley would approve. I sure do. I'd like to build a couple of those. Especially that challenger. It's plastic man.
rmvw guy Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Is it just the box art? Or is it what's inside. I really like the Vega and the Jeepster box art in the stock version. I never built any of these myself.
mustang1989 Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 (edited) That Vega actually looks pretty dang cool! (not the idiot version! lol) I could see doing something with that kit! Edited February 3, 2015 by mustang1989
Erik Smith Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Is it just the box art? Or is it what's inside. I really like the Vega and the Jeepster box art in the stock version. I never built any of these myself. They include the parts for both versions. They are pretty collectible and generally sell for a pretty penny.
vettecote Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 I remember getting the Vega, Duster, and Camaro. Never did use the silly stuff they put in the kit...Joe
1930fordpickup Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 I would like to get a Jeep Kit , but they are pricey.
John Goschke Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 The "Wild" stuff was really ridiculous. Definitely the beginning of a sorry decade for cars real and scale. I was building 1/72nd aircraft then and MPC was selling Airfix planes with chrome customizing parts and "Wild" custom decals!
cobraman Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 I had a couple of those back in the day. Did not use the stupid stuff........... honest ! : )
Mark Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Most kids (myself included) hated those parts back then, they took the place of other things that could have been a lot better. I've seen a lot of those parts in parts boxes over the years, but have only seen a handful of kits built using them. A guy I know is trying to build all of them; it's taking a while because he's looking for poorly built or damaged kits to use (doesn't want to waste perfectly good kits for the project). Those parts came back again in '72 (except in the Jeepster and Vega) but were barely shown on the box art. Look closely at the drag Camaro...it's not what you think it is at first glance, unless of course you're thinking of "Bill Williams' 'Camaro Joy'"...
Daddyfink Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 I have one of those 71 Chevelle kits without the box. It came in a Daytona Transporter box and a decals that says Autorworld Grab Bag. It was not until I saw an original box that I figured out what all the weird parts where for! Would love to have them all!
gbdolfans Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Hey Greg,I think they are cool. If you need space and want to get rid of them,I will take them off your hands!!
AC Norton Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 .....funny thing, I was building and totally model car crazy in the days those were current.....when I was 16, 17 years old....loved that stuff then, love it still now....just pass on the wild parts when building....warms my heart just to see those boxes...the ace.....
Tom Geiger Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 I'm sure George Trosley would approve. I sure do. Funny thing. I just emailed George less than an hour ago! He did the NNL East artwork for us this year and we've been emailing since! As per those "Mild and Wild" annuals. Remember that the market back then was KIDS. This was the era of CarToon cars, with Zingers, Deals Wheels and others. MPC was just following the market. I had the Duster and the Challenger. I was a serious little guy so I chucked those parts!
disabled modeler Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 I like them all. me too if I could afford them
unclescott58 Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 I love them all. I didn't like the "Zinger" style/"wild" option for these kits. A year ago I got the Jeepster. Built it stock and ignored the "wild" parts. I'd love to add the any of the above kits to my collection. Especially the Vega. Scott
disabled modeler Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 LOL....Id even be happy with just the boxes if I couldn't get the kits too...Pontiac and Vega are cool.
62rebel Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 aren't we glad that sometimes the box art isn't 100% accurate.
Craig Irwin Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 aren't we glad that sometimes the box art isn't 100% accurate. The box art was accurate, those Zinger parts were in the kits, but you didn't have to use them.
carl63_99 Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 I think some of those kits are very good in their base-kit form. this is my 1969 Jeepster, essentially the same kit as that jeep, just with safari parts instead of the go-fast stuff.
Kris Morgan Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Not sure what the issue is. Most of those are great kits. As far as the goofy parts, ignore them and you have a great kit. As far as the goofy parts, there were very much a sign of the times and most likely generated a few sales. Not a bad thing if you ask me.
Guest Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 I want one of each, esp. The Vega , Grand Prix and Jeepster.
iangilly Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 I have that duster kit in my stash love the box art.
