Craig Irwin Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 This is from the Cartoons facebook page. So, Who wants to see CARtoons back on the newstands/bookstores/magazine racks? What would you say if I told you I was contacted by someone representing themselves as the new owner? His plan is to bring the mag back to the stand and have it be better than ever! He also asked if I would like this page to become the Official CARtoons magazine facebook page. Of course I told him I'd be glad to do all I could to help the title come back. Now... I've never been one to ask the followers of this page to "Like" or "Share" anything that I post... However, for the magazine to make it back to the stands... it needs supporters. So, If you think you know a gearhead or a comic fan that would be interested in seeing CARtoons hit print again... Ask them to follow this page and watch for updates!
dartman Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 I would like to see them back.I loved them years ago.
cobraman Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 I would give one a try to see if I like it .
Roadrunner Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 I loved that magazine. Whether I'd buy it now or not, I'm not sure.
Deathgoblin Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 YESSSSS!!! I used to subscribe. I probably would again.
Snake45 Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 I'd at least give it a look. But if that unfunny Trosley is a major contributor, I'll prolly give it a pass. He basically only has one story, which I grew tired of a couple years ago.
'70 Grande Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 I wonder if the subject matter would still be based on the mid-1960's-thru-1970's era, or would the subject matter be "current". Just trying to imagine a cartoon illustration of a present-day Lexus or any SUV... although the current Nissan Juke already has a cartoon-face!
Longbox55 Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 Towards the end of the original run, they did keep up with current trends, same as Hot Rod Magazine did. As far as Trosley goes, I personally like his work. What the problem was that the started really pushing Krass & Bernie too much, to the point that a good 1/3rd of the issue was devoted to K & B stories. If you check out his other work, Trosley is definitely not a one story artist. I was also a big fan of Shawn Kerri, loved her work.
Maindrian Pace Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 Kerri was one of a kind, the best lady comic artist ever, but she died years ago in shadowy circumstances that nobody really knows about.
ChrisBcritter Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 (edited) Is Errol McCarthy still around? I really loved his style plus his sci-fi car stories. Edited February 18, 2015 by ChrisBcritter
Jantrix Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 Kerri was one of a kind, the best lady comic artist ever, but she died years ago in shadowy circumstances that nobody really knows about. I seem to be seeing articles that say otherwise. http://womenincomics.wikia.com/wiki/Shawn_Kerri
Maindrian Pace Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 That would be great, but nobody has been able to give any evidence other than "I saw her in 2003, not in the greatest shape, but it was her" that she is still with us. It's sort of like the brain-damaged Elvis living on a private island rumors that used to pop up.
tubbs Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 wasn't it a few years ago either Hot Rod or Car Craft ran a 2 or 3 page CARtoon style story every month for a while. don't remember the name or anything, but it was based on old musclecars. there were some new things thrown in, but not much.
checkmate Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 I loved this magazine and have a few old copies laying around still. I loved Trosley's work especially Krass and Bernie, they were the highlight of the whole magazine and no one else could draw as neat and as cool as Trosley.

It's Car Craft and they're still doing it. It's the same basic story month after month after month. Only the make and model of the car changes.
Badluck 13 Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 (edited) Awwww man I always loved that mag growing up couldn't wait to read the new Krass & Bernie and also liked their "and we don't have to tell you what happened next" page.....another thing about CARtoons Mag it helped me to learn cartoon drawing which always &!$$ed of the art teacher in the '70's/'80's Edited February 18, 2015 by Badluck 13

I was also a big fan of Shawn Kerri, loved her work. Yeah, George and Shawn were the favorites of mine. The minute, trivial details Trosley would add were always entertaining. Sometimes you really had to look for them…..
Daddyfink Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 (edited) It would be cool to see it come back on the stands. Here is an old issue that I recently found in some old boxes in the garage. They made a poster out of this cover and I wish I would have ordered it back then! And yes, the Iron Ons are still in it!! Edited February 18, 2015 by Daddyfink
Craig Irwin Posted February 18, 2015 Author Posted February 18, 2015 I guess its an age thing, but I found Unk and Them Varmints FAR funnier and more entertaining than Krass and Bernie.
Tom Geiger Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 Maybe nobody noticed that Trosley did the NNL East artwork this year? I'm in touch with George and we were very excited that he'd work with us, since he's a part of our growing up with CarToons. Who didn't try to draw his cars as a kid? His style is iconic. He was a joy to work with. Personable, enthusiastic, on time and he wanted to be sure we got exactly what we wanted. A real professional. As far as CarToons coming back, I dunno but I could ask Trosley and see what's up.

Not sure where it is, though.
