landman Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 (edited) I'm not sure if it is worth a thread but here goes anyway. This engine was given to me by fellow member Gary McNutt as part of a stash of old engines. I want to finish it to display. Here's what it looks like unassembled. Edited October 19, 2021 by landman
NOBLNG Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 Doesn’t look like very many parts. I’m sure you’ll be adding some details.
sjordan2 Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 (edited) Wow. The Aurora/Monogram kit is pretty fundamental and globby. Tough challenge when you consider there are two plugs per cylinder at this small scale. Edited October 7, 2021 by sjordan2

absmiami Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 thoughts challenges this photo is of the Weber carbed version of said engine - the kit engine is fuel injected - which is also correct - choose your poison you'll have to scratch the distributor - you'll need some .06 alu or brass tube and lots of patience plug wire - no bigger than .013 - there is an Ebay store that sells .011 wire in different colors - Belly tanker has the site on his ... belly Tanker ... build in the land speed / sports car /racer section 1
mr moto Posted October 8, 2021 Posted October 8, 2021 I built that kit last year but I really don't remember what I did for a distributor. I'll check on that and see if I came up with a really clever solution (doubt it, though). In the meantime, good luck with it and I'll be following.

absmiami Posted October 8, 2021 Posted October 8, 2021 nice Aston engine - you spent some time on that fan blade ... - fr the Aurora DB4 kit ?? treat your self to some 3D printed Webers - there are some very nice ones on Shapeways and floating elsewhere around the internet ...
landman Posted October 9, 2021 Author Posted October 9, 2021 Spent some time on the oil pan. It sort of looks like the real thing. 1
landman Posted October 10, 2021 Author Posted October 10, 2021 Built up the distributor and wire conduit. Looking at Greg's photo , I realize the conduit is woefully out of scale
landman Posted October 10, 2021 Author Posted October 10, 2021 Take two. I found a smaller tube that will still accept the 12 "wires". Did two versions. I think I like the one without the nibs best. I will try to do one with 12 holes as well. 1

Looking at Greg's photo , I realize the conduit is woefully out of scale. Those wires wouldn’t have to be run continuous. You could just make a short collar to accept the 12 wires from the distributor and then a smaller conduit (sprue or evergreen?) extending from that collar. Drill holes in that conduit just big enough to accept the wire coming from the plugs. I’m not sure which version you are going for, but if it’s like the pic I posted, you could drill straight through the conduit into the head to allow for some adjustment to the plug wire length. That was my plan. Run the bunch from the distributor to the mouth of the tube. Then a pair out of each hole to the plugs.

This would be my approach as well. This should be a very interesting and challenging project. I'm eager to see more. David G.
landman Posted October 13, 2021 Author Posted October 13, 2021 So it was that Greg's suggestion prevailed. It may not look exactly like what he had in mind but that's what it is.?
David G. Posted October 17, 2021 Posted October 17, 2021 Nice progress, can't wait to see more. David G. 1
landman Posted October 17, 2021 Author Posted October 17, 2021 Added the clutch, engine mounting tabs, oil filter and generator.
Modelbuilder Mark Posted October 17, 2021 Posted October 17, 2021 Very cool to "see" details going in that may never be seen in the end product. 1
slusher Posted October 18, 2021 Posted October 18, 2021 Pat, your really adding realistic detail too your engine. Awesome work friend.. 1
