Finally got the AMT ‘62 Thunderbird wrapped up. It’s a very detailed kit but had tons of fitment issues which needed to be addressed - probably not a build I would have been able to handle a year ago.  Thankfully, those issues were well documented in this forum so I was ready for it ??

The paint is all tamiya lacquer cans - racing white under gloss clear for the exterior and clear red over gloss aluminum for the interior (the seats were then cleared with matte and the rest with semigloss).  The body trim is BMF, which worked shockingly well (finally!).  Scratched a bunch of interior detail like the steering wheel cap/levers, dash/door/console trim, and gauge bezels and used the model car garage photo etch set for the scripts.  Also gave the engine bay a slight overhaul. The gauge bezels really make the dash pop and it was super easy to do with some aluminum tubing and styrene sheets…I’ll add some pics down down below.

Fun kit all around, but requires patience and caaaalm nerves!27ACB703-0F30-4AF0-906D-7A1D43BBBE76.jpeg.fda4c8dc4e5cd65259e45cfc78998346.jpeg17FD3E01-7BAF-40C1-8CCF-CFD02C01A1BB.jpeg.c58036d88a7de0f83b596f3e3e491a85.jpeg55B8BFBC-1512-46CE-BA46-38AAE101D27D.jpeg.98d44454641c8f97bd4187aafdc6da58.jpegFFEE9D0D-1B23-438F-BFB5-1F4EA29F8E70.thumb.jpeg.3ca92ab0161ef1b3efb715c01d2f176a.jpeg6444A9D2-44ED-4524-8292-99FE1EFC2D7A.jpeg.735151160e532289d789e1d168fda357.jpeg7F0B0E12-278F-4C86-8087-5AE2E2D4703E.thumb.jpeg.52f7e83a6c63ed68af3b74cc6f994975.jpeg4D66C2ED-3F81-4812-AF23-2F0AA9AB7CC0.jpeg.d0d138c27e614f9b312a968f8c0a2143.jpeg6DF8A0DC-B10A-4F95-80EE-4D31585E0D39.thumb.jpeg.1f3a872453d9b75e1f3c4d480282fa4a.jpegC8CB64C6-068B-496E-8A87-0351B1E98D92.jpeg.f8c12541a336ed2eb8b7bf01e1eb612e.jpegA3005D2B-377B-4174-AB8C-D7BA5A3948F4.jpeg.0b26ebccd038a7bae9676a67a5295878.jpegA8F92D78-BC21-4785-B088-35347C547467.jpeg.ed035fcafe0606cd43da522b517dc82c.jpeg3E3622DE-85FC-4D5A-8CEA-821ED587E6CE.jpeg.682865c9366c94c1d88c80ba25febd4b.jpeg88C8E241-276E-43F1-A166-00126B8862E9.jpeg.06a4080e7dd7c4a1dc9a79f4b5665d50.jpegB914C20C-3254-4CB4-8421-FA1706CEB167.thumb.jpeg.08493330d7d96952a66715de0c05e1aa.jpeg

Stunning results! Your foil work is immaculate and fine. The colors are beautiful, especially that red interior. The variation in the "chrome" surfaces on the dash and console add much realism. Engine bay looks like a showroom display. Overall, one of the nicest builds  ever seen of this model kit. VERY well done.

Wow indeed! You knocked another one out of the park. That dash is exceptional in terms of it's detail. And you picked a great day to photograph that beauty.

I've been debating purchasing one of these kits and I think I need to get one.

Thanks man - I definitely recommend grabbing one if you’re on the fence. Just know going in that you’re gonna need to do quite a bit of sanding, especially on the door panels and tonneau cover. I’d also suggest getting the photo etch set, since the body scripts and tbird emblems are annoyingly shallow - my original plan was to do foil under paint but it wouldn’t have looked half as good. The ‘62 bird is such a great looking car, it’s worth the kits minor headaches.

Yeap.....its official, its a Looker.  The traditional red & white looks so good.  Everything looks so clean and the attention to detail is second to none.  very well done

One beautiful looking T Bird. Great color combination and the rear seat cover always looked good on these. Excellent interior and engine details on this build as well.
