tim boyd Posted March 7, 2022 Posted March 7, 2022 Coverage at this link.....thanks for looking! TIM One of the "Great 8" Ridler Award Finalists....
stitchdup Posted March 7, 2022 Posted March 7, 2022 Some very nice cars there, the green sedan is probably (third or fourth pic) my fav cos I just love those rears that curve into the ground. Thanks for the pcs
OldNYJim Posted March 8, 2022 Posted March 8, 2022 Great pics, thanks for sharing Tim! There was a bunch of cool stuff there! Looks like the 'fabrication style' hot rod trend (with rivets and stamped-looking panels and whatnot) is still going strong...and I noticed a few with super skinny motorcycle-style front wheel and tire combinations up front, which I don't recall seeing too much of recently. I'm not sold on the styling of the '31 Chevy that won, personally - looks amazing from the back but a whole mess of different things at the front...but can't fault the imagination and creativity that went into it!

Jim....your thoughts summarize mine as well on the Ridler winner. I don't think there was a clear leader for the award this year. Wonder what the final vote was? Personally i would have probably picked the 'cuda but I thought they were all well done overall....TIM
misterNNL Posted March 10, 2022 Posted March 10, 2022 Thanks for taking the time to post these. I will share these with others of course. Is the car in image 1734 an Austin? Don't think I have ever seen a stock one.
GLMFAA1 Posted March 10, 2022 Posted March 10, 2022 Thanks for posting, nice to see some of the older show cars back on the circuit. greg
Bills72sj Posted March 10, 2022 Posted March 10, 2022 Thank you for sharing. I like the Ford Ranch Wagon early in the stack.

I took a good friend and former Ford executive colleague with me to the show this year, he's incredibly well informed on automotive history (and co-hosts a long-time revered Michigan car-event each year). We discussed the car in that photo and yes, he said it was an Austin, though he thought that the fenders may have been modified from stock....still possible someone might do it in 1/25th starting with the Bantam body in the new-tool Revell-Monogram Slingster kit from a few years ago, but it would sure be a lot of work to bring it all the way home to finished status. Best....TIM

I tried to get a better shot of the engine compartment, but it wasn't to be given the crowds and the way the car was setup on its stand....TB

Best....TIM I doubt there would very little market for a stock bodied kit version of that car. It's awkward at best but very unique. No wonder they got cut up into drag cars.
Phildaupho Posted March 10, 2022 Posted March 10, 2022 Thanks for sharing this great album of photos. Certainly lots of inspiration for car modelers. I am sure looking forward to attending a car show eventually or even a cruise-in. I need a fix of rods and customs.
Zen Posted March 11, 2022 Posted March 11, 2022 Were you able to photograph any of the model kits there?
bill-e-boy Posted March 11, 2022 Posted March 11, 2022 Great pix. Looks like champagne gold is the go to colour this year Thanks for effort - it is great to see what is happening at the other side of the world

iBorg Posted March 12, 2022 Posted March 12, 2022 The picture of Truman Fields Hard Times Pontiac brings up a lot of memories.....I saw it run numerous times.
1930fordpickup Posted March 12, 2022 Posted March 12, 2022 Thanks Tim, I enjoyed the show and your pictures. For some reason I see cars in the Pictures you take I missed. LOL I must skip a row here and there when I go. A couple of things come to mind with this years show. It seems that there is a trend to show cars again like back in the 60's coming on. Still high quality work. I was thinking there would be more cars in the front than normal because of the no show last year. The extra space at the sides was more than I thought would be there. The White Bantam or Austin that Tom mentioned above sure was a lot smaller than I thought they were.

Like you, I expected the show this year to be filled to the gills, as it were. Instead, more vacant floor space than I can remember for a long, long time. Hopefully next year will be back on track. I did a pretty quick trip through this year rather than my usual row by row coverage. Nevertheless, no matter how complete my coverage, just like you I see photos of other cars I do not remember seeing at the show itself! Oh well.... Best....TIM
1930fordpickup Posted March 19, 2022 Posted March 19, 2022 Tim there was a guy in the front row with a 64 Ford Fairlane 4 drag car. A real nice car. He said he just picked it up and was driving by on his way home to the east coast. So he picked up the phone and called to see if he could get in the show. I am glad he did call.
