was at michaels store today
Phirewriter replied to route66modeler's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yup, yup and yup, except at least when I was at the location on 70th something and Burleigh a few years ago it was more like a hoarder's basement than and actual store. Plus the owner is rather less than pleasant. There's also a Happy Hobby (same family) location on the northwest side of Milwaukee (76th and Good Hope) that I'd refuse to enter as one may get some kind of infection. As you've guessed I'm not a fan. There's several other hobby stores in south eastern Wisconsin that are worth the effort to patronize. -
Not exactly the breed (he's a Havanese) I had in mind when we were looking for our next dog, we previously had a Jack Russell. We took him in after our neighbor fell seriously ill shortly after she got him, he was only a few months old. We just couldn't let him go to the shelter, Oliver has been our loyal companion for 11 years now.

Favorite Obscure or Discovered Music Album
Phirewriter replied to afx's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
"Bebop" is one of my favorite anime series, the music featured in it is great and really adds to the experience. -
Interesting, I'm on their email list, get bombarded with 3 - 6 emails a day and have never received anything larger than 20% coupon off for a long time. No big deal as I stated before I definitely have better places to spend my money. The only reason I haven't unsubscribed is ever so often they do have something on sale or a new product I can use. I realize unfortunately that other than web based shopping some have only Michael's or Hobby Lobby as an actual brick and mortar. It's unfortunate that that specialty retail has seen such a decline but I'm sure there's a whole other thread on that somewhere here.

Our Michael's store have not had more than a 20% coupon for over a year now. The 20% still doesn't bring the inflated price down to what I can get product from my local merchants for.

They need to stock kits actually worth the use of the coupon much less at full+ retail. One more reason I stopped shopping there. Much like Michael's they slowly replaced quality name brand art supplies with vastly inferior house brand chinese garbage. Thank goodness I have a local art store and a great LHS that's very competitive on pricing. The few dollars more I might have to pay for something is worth keeping them in business.

Although I'm not a sportsball guy, most of my family is. Saw his last game with my uncle and cousins at Milwaukee County Stadium in '76. My uncle had connections due to his job and we were all gifted with autographed cards after the game. One of the only non automotive sports memorabilia I own and is very cherished. My dad and I generally spent baseball season at car shows and racing events and football/basketball season in the garage working on cars for the following spring and summer. He was a Milwaukee legend and a big loss. Godspeed Hammerin' Hank...

George was a great promoter and knew great talent to hire when he saw it. Unfortunately as years went on and more things came out about him it really changed my opinion of him. The late Dean Jeffries had much to say concerning 'ol George since he took credit for numerous cars Dean built. One only has to look at the Ertl AMT release of the Monkey Mobile that Jeffries built, yet the kit was promoted as a Barris custom. Cruise through the H.A.M.B. message board if you're interested, lots of posts about George and his antics. It's too bad really, since many automatically think he was the alpha and omega of custom cars, don't realize Sam was the real talent and so many other customizers from the day were overlooked due to his constant need to take credit for everything. I wonder how many people know that Tom Daniels was the actual designer of the Munster's Mobile? Barris took credit for all of that one too but Tom set the record straight on that one some time ago. At least Ed Roth in numerous books and articles credited the many people (designers and fabricators) whom without their talents would have not made many of his creations possible.

Otaki also made some interesting Cam Am kits (1/28ish) including the go kart Shadow and Chaparral 2H. I've got the whole series but am not inclined to dig them out of hiding so these interweb images will have to do for now. Some are better rendered than others but are all pretty cool. Due to the odd scale my initial intent was to build chassis and run them on my 1/32 track, but for now they're destined for the shelf once I get them unpacked.

God's speed Mr Connery, the first and best 007.

Nice! Really like the Renwal Golden Chaparral, hoping that if Atlantis has the molds for that and the Lola T70 they will reissue them.

I'm a big fan of Kaiju movies, of course Godzilla, and especially the Shōwa era films. I've always been inspired by the movie sets and the amazing work that went into them. It's interesting to note that even into the 2000's and with the availability of CGI that the movies still relied on lots of miniature work.
-
Really nice! Definitely is better looking as an open car than the original woody wagon.
-
Looks great. Yeah it's basic but bear in mind that the molds date back to 1960. Still these old hot rod kits certainly have a look that's really cool.
-
That was reissued a while ago in Monogram's SSP program but I've still seen them at shows for reasonable prices.
-
Very nice, looks great in that shade of green. You realize you're now going to have to build this and paint it black.
-
40% off of nothing I'm interested in doesn't matter. I don't buy kits just because they're cheap. Besides with their upcharge the discount puts it within a couple of bucks of my LHS pricing and will support them before HL.

Missing Iconic Hot Rods

Looks great! Given its age and manufacturers origin you really did a nice job. I've got one in progress right now and found a large paperclip that looks to scale for the front fender support. I'll take your advice for the rear rubber flap and remove it although I'm undecided whether I'm going stock or mild cafe racer at this point. I also managed to find a headlight lens from a large scale kit in my parts bins to use but will need some fiddling around to look good.
