  1. Smart Car crashes... Sorry couldn't resist.
  2. What he said? One of Jimmy's best pattern/body makers is into professional cars and the hearses are really nice! There's a coffin table available too.
  3. I have 4 HL stores in close cruising distance and none of them have had anything on clearance nor do they have anything new other than some Revell restock. One of them allegedly had the Chevelle and Boss Mustang but never restocked.
  4. Hey David, you'll want to check out this; https://www.recovertoy.com I would search YouTube for restoration videos, there's a ton of them. I also belong to a Facebook Hot Wheels restoration page if you're so inclined there's a number of pages dedicated to restorations there too.
  5. The Matchbox auto transporter is a beauty, finally found one that's at least complete. I restore vintage Hot Wheels and Matchbox in addition to my other hobbies. There's a company in Australia that's has almost anything you'd need to restore Matchbox, Corgi's and Dinkys including reproduction boxes.
  6. Nice! You've got some awesome cars there. I still have many of my old toys. My parents made clear to me I'd better take care of what I had because it wouldn't be replaced. Couple that with a father that collected diecast and built models, I had a good roll model. When I moved out and started my own life they pretty much kept everything I didn't take and now I thankfully have it.
  7. Very interesting, thanks for sharing the photos.
  8. The Monogram 1/25 Elva was only available as a slot car unfortunately, I think it's a bit nicer than the AMT. The Cooper Ford was reissued by Monogram as the Shelby King Cobra, but only as a RTR slot car about 10 years ago.
  9. The Ferrari 275P, Chaparral 2D, rear engine Scarab and the Porsche 904 all have been done in the SSP program years ago (Chaparral more than once) Provided the Germans have the tooling they certainly could be run again. Now the AMT Can Am cars (Lola T70, Chaparral 2C, McLaren Elva and Hussain) who knows? Again like Monogram's kits they were slot bodies that had full curbside kit versions.
  10. Cheetahs were notorious hot boxes due to the headers running over the footwells. Simple solution, slice the roof off as Ralph Salyer did for the Cro-Sal Special. Rather evil handling too, a number of books on early 60's road racing shows them twisting up and pulling the front wheels up upon leaving corners. Not to mention quotes from those who drove them said they were a handful. BTW Carrera made a really nice 1/24 slot car if you really need a Cheetah fix.
  11. Almost everyone in the slot car biz in the 60's had a vac formed Cheetah body. Cox had a styrene body on a number of chassis as technology advanced, however they also offered it as a model kit. Like their Chaparral kit it's very difficult to find.
  12. Yup, looks like the Eddie Hill twin engine dragster with 5 additional pairs of motors photochopped in. With the motors at those angles there's no way to link them together from crank to flywheel.
  13. The Speed Tack sets were Matchbox's entry into the slot car market, slightly larger than Tyco and AFX "H.O." cars. The rails were also a different width from Tyco and AFX tracks so only Matchbox slot cars could run on them. They also marketed a slotless system too. Remember this is the era that Lesney Products (Matchbox) owned AMT.
  14. #4 appears to be the front wheel from the Monogram Sweet Tee. #5 the larger spoked wheel I believe is from the Munster's Dragula
  15. You forgot about the person with an overflowing cart in the express/10 items or less lane. Especially if they charge in front of you while all you have is 1 or 2 items because they're in such a hurry but you clearly have nowhere to be. A number of times I've ask what their problem was, couldn't read or can't count.
  16. From what I've been able to find it looks like the car was in a collection, therefore possibly in nice condition. The roof was from a Pontiac Safari (rarer than a Nomad) supposedly took 12 years to build. I think they could have used a more common model as the basis for this custom since almost everything that made the Pininfarina body unique has been erased. No difference than guys like John D' Agostino and Richard Zocchi who cut up some really nice low mileage collector cars. Some were nice however this Cadillac does nothing for me. Those body styles have a certain sleekness despite the fins and the roof just looks tall and clunky on it. I love customs but it still pains me to see nice restored/original or rare cars sliced up unless they're beyond hope.
  17. R/C is one of many distractions to my model building. I've found over the years (and not just for Tamiya anymore) buy it now if you can, it will generally never be cheaper. But then I guess that applies to numerous hobbies these days.
  18. Tamiya did make a Cheetah, however it was a 1:10 R/C kit (no 1:24 version) They are very expensive if they're mint unbuilt, usually in the four figure range.
  19. A&E? Live PD perhaps? 3 hours live(ish) every Friday and Saturday night. The show has coverage of 8 different police departments around the country. That show really makes you wonder...
  20. The above mentioned truck I believe should be a pro built. Pretty Rough Overall
  21. There were quite a few kits released through Revell's model of the month offer. My dad signed me up with a subscription card from a kit he bought for himself, probably around 1972 or '73. The ones I have were simply cardboard mailer boxes with a label of the kit box cover. I don't recall getting a model every month, seemed like every 2 months but that was a long time ago. I've still got my Porsche 914-6 and a Rodfather as far as automotive subjects. Otherwise I got mostly air and space subjects, sadly some of them disappeared over the years. I don't think you had a choice of theme, they just sent you wherever was slated for the program.
  22. Oliver the fearless tiger hunter. And occasional art critic.
  23. If you like these and don't have an aversion to Facebook you really need to check out the Scale Survivors page. Really neat stuff posted there!
