  1. I haven't paid attention to these on eBay, if they're getting expensive I have to admit I'm kinda surprised. I still see them at local shows for not too much money and have picked up a few here and there with ideas for modifying them, IF that time ever comes. My dad started a Duesenberg but never finished it for some reason, going to get to that soon hopefully. It's definitely much more involved and fiddly than the "A" kits. The A's seem to be the simplest of all the kits. The '32 Chevy he built was unfortunately damaged beyond repair after one of my young relatives got ahold of it at a family gathering years ago. He never had any of his finished builds in secure cases since even at a very young age I had respect for his stuff and he knew I wouldn't mess with anything. Some people's kids....
  2. Nice build, turned out really nice. Thanks for posting your WIP. My father was a car collector and had several Model A's over the years. He was also a model builder and he had all of the Hubley metal kits in multiples including the Duesenbergs, Packards and '32 Chevys. As R Schnell and others stated, I too have fond memories of building these with him when I was young and thankfully still have them. I'm hoping to build a few more of his Hubley Model A kits. A few years before he passed he gave me his kit collection.
  3. Les and Chris, I'm definitely familiar with The Parts Box and have purchased a number things from them, mostly slot car related items. Good quality stuff! Thanks for posting the link. I have the Interceptor kit (Max's police ride from the beginning of Mad Max) and it's very nice. I still wish for more detailed styrene kits though, but if anyone's interested don't hesitate to order one. I'll also add that Scalextric has offered 1:32 Supercar slot cars for the AU market over the years and have quite a few.
  4. Nope, although I've heard of them. Want to touch bases? Just PM me. I mainly do paint work but am involved most phases of the business where I'm at, although I'm not involved with installation with some exceptions. Stronger smelling dryer sheets work nice for removing that wonderful basement perfume that sometimes accompanies older poorly stored books and magazines. I just place a sheet every few pages and let the reading material sit for a few weeks. Can't say for sure but something in the sheets must kill mildew since I've not had the smell return in any book or magazine I've treated this way. Also works well for old kit boxes that have that mildewy oder. It's a common problem with collections stored in damp basements, unfortunately.
  5. I'm in the sign industry and often have to paint acrylic and and other various plastics. During the winter I use them before painting, however I use sheets with minimal scent and use a light touch. I barely touch the surface and don't need to use it like a tack cloth. As stated above it's not a cure all but does help in particularly cold dry weather. During this time of year anything to keep surfaces clean of dust is a bonus. We also run wires to ground whatever we're painting if it's feasible which also helps.
  6. I have one of these in my collection, I have a "thing" for visible working engine kits, both automotive and aircraft. This has been an informative, interesting thread so far. Rob, I like what you've done so far, your build really looks great and am saving the information for whenever I get around to building mine. As usual Bill's input has been most informative. Might be an interesting thread to start for visible engine kits, there's been quite a few released over the years.
  7. There's so many cool cars that have been available in Australia since the late 60's to present that most people aren't aware of. Ford, GM(Holden) and Chrysler have put out some really interesting, cool muscle cars for the AU market. The last generation Pontiac GTO, G8 (GT &GXP) and Impala SS are basically Holdens. I don't have any go to websites, I'm sure there are some good ones dedicated to Australian muscle but a Google search will turn up lots of cool stuff. For many years my favorite racing series has been the V8 Supercars (along with DTM and BTCC)
  8. Beautiful build! That deep red really works! Stunning!
  9. Would be nice if Aoshima would release the Mad Max Falcon again, wouldn't mind an extra. A stock version would be killer, want to build one like this.
  10. Well, that's very cool!
  11. Very nice Cox cars! Always liked the Lotus 40 vs the 30. The "Cucs" are a blast to drive, I've put in some milder motors to run them on my home track. My 1:32 versions are little rockets!
  12. Depending on what version of the Chaparral you have replacement parts can be found at the Parts Box located in Australia https://www.thepartsbox.com/ I've ordered from them pre pandemic with no issues (other than sometimes lengthy shipping times) and the quality is very nice. Otherwise you my want to look at various slot racing forums, The Slot Blog and Slot Forum are some of the better ones for vintage slot stuff as far as information. As for tires, you might find something appropriate at IndyCals https://www.indycals.net/ As the name suggests mostly open wheel stuff but they do reproduce some early Indy and sports racing tires in resin that may work for you on the Scarab (nice kit BTW) Hope this helps!
  13. Very nice! I've got a few original issue Aurora and Revell reissues that I've been looking forward to building myself. I started one before I moved to my current digs and just pre-fitting and performing minor subassemblies showed this was going to be more than a simple build. You did an excellent job!
  14. Very cool! After the success of some of the Foose kits it would be cool to see some Kindig's cars done. This is a good example of modifying an existing tool to make his version of the C1 Vette.
  15. Beautiful paint work! Early ('63 -'67) Riviera's are so nice looking, the paint really sets it off well.
  16. Thanks for the post Bill. I mess around with Sci-Fi kits, slot cars of various scales as well as automotive subjects and am always looking for lighting ideas for models that don't have lighting kits or to further enhance available kits.
  17. Nice score! I've got those identical Paasche brushes in my collection and love them despite the finicky nature of the AB. What a difference using a true vintage VL compared to a modern one, there is no comparison I guess... Nice to see someone with a passion for airbrushes!
  18. The '57 Chevy...???????
  19. The red showing up through the windows is why I'm leaning towards that instead of blue. A blue bright enough to show up and pop would not be a look I'd like.
  20. Very nice!! Looks absolutely beautiful! Have this kit in my collection and had planned on building it in basically the same color combination, debating on either red or blue for the interior but the red looks great.
  21. Don't forget the late great Sabine Schmitz, queen of the Nürburgring.
  22. I never really cared for the body on that Vicky but do like the wheel/tire combo and is a great source for other parts. Definitely looking forward to picking up a few more of them.
  23. That looks great!I That car inspired me too when it was featured and started one myself a number of years ago (I'm really good at starting projects ?) I used mostly stuff from my parts inventory, some scratch built items, Pegasus wheels and was trying a couple of different resin track noses. Again outstanding build!! Thanks for a bump for inspiration!
  24. Very cool! Nice to see a hot rod powered by something more unusual and interesting.
