The Great MPC '67 Charger WIP Workbench Thread
'70 Grande replied to Snake45's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Well, after 30 minutes of digging in the kit barn, I found it! Managed to get 4 or 5 pics taken, and then the camera's battery went dead. I'm recharging it now; will have to post my in-progress pics tomorrow. I'm glad that I dug this old kit out; now I think I'll be motivated to get her done! -
The Great MPC '67 Charger WIP Workbench Thread
'70 Grande replied to Snake45's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Snake, I'll post some pics of my work-in-progress of this kit tomorrow. Mine has been on my Shelf of Doom for about 3 years now... I think! My first challenge, actually finding where this old beast is buried! -
Excellent work! Other than the new wheels, tires and decals, did you do anything else to this vintage kit to "dress-it-up" alittle more? Like add any engine details, interior details or chassis work?
-
Really nice save! I really like the color combination; silver paint with a Red interior! Your foilwork looks outstanding as well; nicely done!
-
Wow! This build is "wicked' looking, and really well done!
-
Nicely done in a great paint color! I've always liked these MPC Corvette kits too, and happen to be in-the-middle of a build of this exact same kit! After seeing your excellent build, maybe I'll be motivated to finish mine up!

I'm assuming the "70 Monte Carlo reissue will be based on the 1/25 kit AMT/Ertl newly-tooled back in the mid-1990's or so, correct? (It won't be based on a reissue of the much older, early-1970's Monte Carlo kit that was transformed into the Super Stocker dirt-track race car).

Does anybody have a date for when this 1/25 AMT Scirocco kit might be reissued and available to purchase?
-
Beautiful and nicely-detailed build! Your paint and decal-work really pop; nicely done!
-
Beautiful builds! Your paint and detail-work are outstanding! I guess I have never seen a '48 and '49 Ford parked next to each other; I was a little surprised that the '48 appears overall slightly smaller in size than the '49. I have always thought those full-fendered cars "appeared" larger in size than the more modern and "slimmer-appearing" cars of the late-1940's and early-1950's.

1/25 Revell Ford Del Rio Ranch Wagon 2'n'1
'70 Grande replied to Matt T.'s topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
My guess; cost savings. Probably easier and more cost-effective to delete than to revise. No real approval-process, (which translates into "time" and "money"), necessary with making a deletion. More time, reviews and approvals required with making a revision; hence more cost. -
Busch Grand National Series
'70 Grande replied to bbowser's topic in WIP: Stock Cars (NASCAR, Super Stock, Late Model, etc.)
All excellent looking builds! And, now a quick question for you. Back in the late-1980's-mid-1990's when the Busch Series race cars were limited to using V-6 engines, I've always wondered approximately how many cubic inches those V-6 engines were... any idea? -
Just a look back at Monograms venerable '55 Chevy
'70 Grande replied to Greg Myers's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
My thought, exactly! What was part #83 that looks like it was to be mounted underneath the dashboard... a television? -
Chuck, I'll be interested in what you find regarding those BRE Datsun 510 tires. I wasn't aware that they had come from '90's Revell lowrider kits; (not my forte). The flared-fenders on that Scirocco seem quite wide, so I'm thinking they might still fit under them for a racing Scirroco. Just hope the kit's chrome wheels will fit well inside them. Thanks for checking this out for myself and other builders!

I've been doing some research and kit-searching for some better tires to put onto this 1/25 Scirocco kit once it has been reissued, and I think a good tire-solution for building a Scirocco race car might be the small-but-wide racing tires found inside the somewhat-recently reissued 1/25 Revell Pete Brock BRE Datsun 510 sedan race car kit. These were newly-tooled/nicely-done tires from Revell, and seem to match the size specs needed for a race Scirocco pretty closely. Thoughts, anyone?

Moebius Models '59 Dodge & Chrysler Turbine Car.
'70 Grande replied to W-409's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
So... I understand that the good people at Moebius have probably been pretty busy recently, but has anyone heard anything new regarding the potential reissue of these two old Johan kits by Moebius? -
My mistake; I was describing the AMT/Ertl 1966 Riviera kit above!
-
'66 Wildcat= old, mid/late-1960-s era tooling. Still can be built into a nice-looking model with alittle care and effort. Body is very well-done; interior and engine not bad. Chassis is one-piece using steel axles, (front one goes thru the engine block, I think). '69 Riviera= newer, late-1990's/early-2000's tooling. This is an excellent kit with a great-looking and well-detailed engine, chassis and interior. The body is also excellent. This kit came about when AMT/Ertl was at its high-water mark for kit execution. I seem to remember that this kit nearly won the "Kit of the Year" competition put on my a particular model car publication back then.

Ron, I, too, would like some info on what might be a good 1/25 kit to steal chassis and suspension parts from to help build a more accurate and detailed Vega Pro Stock; anybody have any suggestions?
-
I'd bet that Pro-stock Vega will sell well! Wish I could remember; did it come with a one-piece chassis, (with molded-in rear suspension), or did it have separate pieces for the rear suspension?
-
David, That would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
-
The chrome wheels inside this kit appear to be a pretty standard, deep-dish 14" racing-style, correct? So, what would be good, appropriate 1/25 replacement racing tires to use on a build of this kit? My thinking is that they'd need to be reasonably-wide, (maybe 10" or 12" in 1:1), treaded, and have a fairly-low sidewall height/profile. Do any other kit's tires come-to-mind as good replacements?
-
Dodgefever, Thanks for indicating what the rear suspension pieces look like; that helped me decide to purchase this kit once it becomes available!

1/25 Lindberg '66 Chevelle Super Sport
'70 Grande replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Jeffrey, I have just started working on mine; it looks like an excellent kit with cleanly and crisply molded parts. I don't believe there are any new parts inside this kit other than what came in the box back when it was first issued several years ago by Lindberg. The wheels are chrome-plated, factory-stock covers that are made to look like typical mag wheels of that mid-1960's era. They are the only wheel choice inside the kit, but are correct for an optioned, factory-stock build. They do not have any steel wheel details behind them, (no lugnuts or center-caps). The tires are pretty plain, but have nice tread detail. They seem alittle narrow for my tastes, so I will be swapping them out for some parts box Goodyears. I think this kit is more than just, "OK". I think it'll build into a fine-looking replica of mid-1960's Chevrolet muscle. I'd suggest getting one!
