9 Inch Slicks--What Are They Good For?
Daddyfink replied to Snake45's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Late 50's and early 60's dragster ran those sizes. I would say up to about '62 or so. The Winged Express before the winged part -
I did a quick comparo between the ktis and found almost nothing matched. Close, but no real matches.

Think of the sandwich as the kit, Aunt Edna as the average model builder and the Dog as Revell http://youtu.be/C1Zp7vfyew8

That is wild! I like it! -
SOHC engines came with cast iron heads. Aluminum heads where sold as parts. Today there is a myriad of aftermarket aluminum heads for this engine setup. If you are going to point something out, then tell the whole story, that way all the facts are on the table. And it is not ok by you if you got so irritated over this.

Very nice! Saw one or two almost like that back in the day!

What did you see on the road today?

Totally bone stock original 1969 Super Bee. Could not read the script on the hood bulge to tell which engine it had. LIght off white color with black trunk stripe. Not a resto, but survivor -

Just as an FYI, the Ford SOHC came with cast iron heads.

Revell Sox and Martin 1970 Hemi Cuda
Daddyfink replied to Daddyfink's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
They didn't look that blingy when I first painted them, but now with the flash, they pop! Will try the dull cote idea. Thanks! -
Revell Sox and Martin 1970 Hemi Cuda

Thanks for the comments and suggestions! I do appreciate the input. 10Thumbs, Michael, the front tires are supposed to be 1/25, according to the package they came in and they looked closer to the tires the car wore when it was first built, and that is the main reason I used them. I was going to use the black wall side, but accidentally put the reline out and I liked they way they looked. And yes, I think the kits front tires are too small as well. -

Revell Sox and Martin 1970 Hemi Cuda

Yes, indeed they where Ford blue, but, I used the modern resto as reference and totally forgot about that little detail. But I will pay more attention next time! Thanks for pointing it out. -
Well, this turned into the slump buster I needed. Not one of the best I have done, but, it is good enough for a shelf model. The kit went together fairly well with really no vices. The only thing I substituted from the kit where the front tires. I used some American Satco Redline Firestones . They may not be too period correct, but I liked the way they looked. The paint is all Tamiya, the blue was decanted quite some time ago and it went down like dirt! I managed to save it by using a polishing kit and some rubbing compound. Otherwise it is not that great. I was trying to get it done in a hurry and used the kit decals for the stripes, bad move, I should have painted them on as the decals for the hood are too short! I used the kit decals despite their lack of accuracy and I do have the Slixx decals. I found some Shabo Firestone transfers for the rear tires and they are a bit small, but look ok to me. Overall, despite its critics and fans, it is not a bad kit. Looking forwards to building another one, but better this time! So there you have it! All comments are welcome!

MPC '72 Blue Max Mustang funny car
Daddyfink replied to S. Svendsen's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
One of the hardest and best running teams in the 70's! Nice job! -
Yes, the decals are still available from Slixx. The McEwen car was rebuilt and then driven by Fred Goeske, same guy that drove the only 69 Road Runner funny car, and the car eventually ended up in the Don Garlits Drag Museum. A few years back, the cars owner came for it and Garlits would not let it go, but, eventually relented and the owner got the car back, minus the engine. I assume the car in is currently housed in some collection and who knows when it will be seen again.
