1966 Fred Lorenzen Ford Galaxie - Junior Johnson's Yellow Banana
THarrison351 replied to gami8630's topic in NASCAR
It would appear you have captured the lines of this special car very well! Was a very fast car up until it wrecked in its only race. Needless to say NASCAR upped its use of templates after this car. -
023 was a great year! This is the most productive I've been since I was a bachelor in the early to mid eighties. Fifteen models completed this year. About half were already started years ago, so that made it a little easier. Paint acquisition was probably the biggest issue earlier this year. I've grown fond of Tamiya spray paints, but my local(other side of city) hobby shop was often out of needed colors. I have discovered, I'm not proud of it, Amazon has them and they ship quickly. So, that was a help. Anyway, my quest to complete started models and gift models continues. I still have around thirty to go. Maybe if I really grind hard, I can complete twenty next year!

Thanks! Thank you! Thanks! i look forward to seeing your gangster version! Thank you! Thanks! Thank you! Thanks! Thank you! Thanks! Thank you! I built a few models above my ability when I was young too. More glue fixes everything! Thanks Thank you! I was inspired by a LeBaron version Thanks! Thank you! Thanks! Thank you! Thanks! Thank you! Thanks! Good old Homer, such an inspiration! Thank you! First time using Alclad II chrome, and it turned out better than I expected. Thanks! Yeah, truly big cars! I have several 1/24 20s-30s luxury cars from the Mints and none fit in the standard plastic display cases.

I can't say I enjoyed building this model, but I'm happy with the results. Round2 brought back this old kit with the motorcycle and gangster options. I passed on those, but the rest looks OK. Typical sixties MPC issues, with fiddly chrome, vague locations for parts, etc. I'll never understand how kids finished them years ago. I added a missing upper radiator hose and the rumble seat does not work, it's either open or closed. The golf bag hatch on the side will open, I just didn't take a picture. Anyway, last build for the year, that makes fifteen. With top on My green I used was brighter than I wanted, but it was all I had on on hand Initial mock up Tamiya Gloss black and Alclad II chrome for the wheels I used Tamiya gloss aluminum for the silver. Masked with bare metal foil. The newest it terrible! leaves residue behind! Ugh! Guess that's it! Thanks!

Your most difficult kits

Mine was the orange box kit. I did follow all the recommended fixes, and did finish the kit. It was just so much massaging for such a modern release compared to the other AMT releases from the same period. -

AMT 70.5 Camaro, that's it. (Edit) I forgot the PIA Monogram Sprint cars from the eighties -
Favorite paint scheme this year! Excellent!

The Corvette builds OK, but it takes a lot of patience. the molds are old, the fit of parts are poor, the interior is the wrong year, and the engine is and underhood is lacking detail. My build from many years ago (2013) when RC2 dug out the molds and released as AMT.

1991(3) Monogram #2 Rusty Wallace Miller Genuine Draft Winston Cup
THarrison351 replied to THarrison351's topic in NASCAR
I Agree! Thanks! Thank you! I've found Tamiya gloss black to be the best out of the can over any other method besides airbrush. Thanks! Thank you! Thanks! It was a good build Thank you! Thanks! Thank you! -
This was released in 1991. By this time, the good parents had convinced manufacturers anything that could be considered a toy such as a model kit like this one. Could no longer have anything with tobacco or alcohol advertising on them. Thus, it was released with Rusty's colors and number, but Pontiac as the sponsor. I started building this twenty odd years ago as the Petty 43 last year car. Then my dad gave me a Franklin Mint version so I never finished it. Along the way, parts were robbed for other projects. Anyway, it's now finished with proper MGD decals from PowerSlide and Tamiya paint. Not historically accurate for 1993, but close. I mean the chassis is completely inaccurate, and those are five hole wheels. Looks OK on my shelf. The last picture was a quick mockup with parts I cobbled together.

Safety in the 50's

In the mid-eighties a local dirt track near Plattsburgh, New York, I was acquainted with the street stock champion. His car's (Duster) roll cage was stick welded black pipe (iron) that had been previously used in a Charger that was wrecked too badly to continue to use. They just cut the top off each of them and welded the cage in to fit. Can't even begin to imagine what would have happened if he'd ever been hit in the side. -
He looks like an escapee from Robot Chicken

Thanks CT! I built this for my dad. He had built the MPC #15 Isaac Torino when I was a kid. It didn't live through the eighties and It was unobtainable when I bought this as a replacement. At the time, the RC Cola decals were the only ones I could find for the Bud Moore #15. He had it in a case until he passed in 2008 and that's when I got it back. I now have the rereleased Sta-Power Torino and will do a replica one day.

Thanks! Thank you! Thanks! Thank you! It was fun! -
That's cool! I just finished the Peace Van yesterday and posted it in the trucks and vans. I built a few of these when I was a kid, including the planes. Would be great if they were issued again.
