WoooooHoooo! How About a '66 SUBURBAN !?!?!!!
unclescott58 replied to Danno's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Art, at times Chevrolet use to offer 3/4 ton panels on the long wheelbase too. But, all Suburbans, like you were saying, were factory built on the short 1/2 ton truck chassis through 1966. This holds true for the GMC Suburbans too. As far towing. Very few people need anything over a half-ton for towing trailers. Setup right, a 1/2 ton Suburban could at least towing 6,000 lbs. Even back then. Maybe more with right rear axle ratio. The weight of a trailer is mainly suspended by the trailer's own suspension. In the old days, they would only recommend having 600 lbs. of tongue weight with a 6,000 lb. trailer. No sweat for a half-ton with the right hitch. -
AMT dirt hauler

The more I look at the two above trucks, the more curious I become. Beside scale, what is history of these kits? When did they come out? They look like they be Japanese kits put into AMT boxes. And what's the purpose of looks like a speaker grille on the bottom of the moving van trailer? I've been building model for over 50 years. And I've never seen these kits before. Where did they come from? A reviews of both of these kits would be very interesting. Interesting looking trucks. -
Yea, Round 2 needs to reissue AMT's 1933 and 1949 Ford coupes too. I'd buy them.

AMT's 1/32 1963 Corvette was a split-window coupe.

Any idea what the scale these trucks are? -
A couple of good ones I'm glad to hear coming. AMT's 1/32 1965 Mustang Fastback. Very cool. I'm still wait for the '60 Thunderbird and '63 Corvette in that series to reappear. And the MPC Vending Machine is high on my list. I'm hoping somebody will make Moutain Dew decals to fit that one.

Smells good? I was always told that sniffing glue was bad for you. Destroys brain cells. What are you thinking?

Flashback Review! - 1981 MPC "Turbo-Z"
unclescott58 replied to RDean58's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Looking at Steve's build above reminds me of the only thing I never liked on this kit. And that is the rear bumper. The way that rear bumper was designed on the model kit, it does look right to me. It's too fat, and/or flat? I don't know? It just doesn't look right were the bumper and rear fenders comes in contact. This problem was true on all MPC Camaros from 1978 - 1981. Great kit otherwise. I had forgotten about this until see Steve's kit. -

I love these type of reviews. I don't care if it's a new or old kit. It's always appreciated. Thank. -
Lindberg '61 Bel Air? Isn't this Lindberg's '61 Impala?

I didn't know who he was, but I'm very sorry to hear about this none the less.

Okay, yesterday afternoon I decided to try applying Revell's Red Line tire decals to a set of Revell's tires. Both the decals and tires were from Revell's wonderful 1967 Corvette roadster kit. I hate those darn decals. I don't know if I've ever been able to get a set of them on four tires in a row with any success. The first tire I went to do yesterday, went down perfect. A little adjustment. But, not a major problem. It look good. The second tire? Nothing but disaster. And more I tryed to fix it the worst it got! Somehow the decal ends up twisting, and refuses to untwist and lay down flat. ? I hate Revell tires in general. I can get the wide white decals on their tires with no problems. I don't like them as well as tampo printed wide whites. But, they're okay. The Red Lines? I don't think I've ever gotten a successful set done? Does anybody out there have any suggestions? Has anybody ever gotten them to work?

How are you busting my bubble?

Went searching online for bronze colored '73 Mach I. Found several pictures of'73 Mach 1s in a color called "gold glow" with black stripes that looks pretty nice. I think I may have try replicating my '73 in that color.

Not high on my wanted list. But, I always thought the Flapjack was cool. And if they reissued it, I buy one. The other one I'd like to see, that I don't think Tom Daniel actually designed, but it was tied to him at the time, is the Ghost of the Red Baron. I know it didn't sell well in its first release. But, those who would mainly be in charge of buying such an expensive kit back then, has changed in 45 years. I know I couldn't afford to buy it back then. And my parents or other adults may not have thought of it as be "cool" or appropriate to buy me one as a gift. I want one! Now I have the money and no one questioning if it's right for me to have one or not.

Somebody else brought this up a week or two ago. I can not remember if it was in a posting here? Or someone in our local model car club meeting mentioned it? Anyhow, I download the instructions to my iPad so I can remain excited until I get the real thing in my hands. It looks good.

Good news. I'm hoping they'll look at reissuing the Poison Pinto and the Mean Maverick. Two kits I want real bad. Most everything else of Tom Daniel kits I've wanted over the years has been reissued, and I've purchased. The Poison Pinto (the original green version) and the Mean Maverick are two that I'm missing that I had as a kid. And I would love to have them both again.

I'm painting something everyday right now, before my basement gets too cold too. I will continue painting as long as it stays fairly warm down there. I've got so many projects right now in different states of build, just waiting for certain parts that need to be painted certain colors. It's a bit chaotic around here right now. But, that's part of the fun.

Are you going to build what's left of the Olds as a convertible then. I hope so. And I hope post pictures of sport coupe conversion as your doing it. I'm wondering how easy of conversion it will be? Not only do you have change the roof, but the rear deck lid too.

Flashback Review - AMT 1992 "Heritage Edition" Camaro Z-28
unclescott58 replied to RDean58's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
CBs and Disco! Both came on big time, about the same time. I remember having a pink polyester leisure suit at that time. ? Ugh! But, my girlfriend liked it. And being of the "right age" at the time I could not say no. ? I also wore "Earth Shoes" back then. They didn't go with the pink leisure suit, and they were not great for dancing disco in. But, I loved those shoes, and wouldn't mind having a pair now.
