  1. What is this all about? If it's political, I'll be passing on it.
  2. Okay Tom.... I don't know we could handle you coming out here too. But.... I guess I'll make the same offer to you, that I made to Charlie. If you ever make to one of our Model Car Club of Minnesota meetings, I'll buy you dinner too. And again, no lutefisk. Speaking of the Model Car Club of Minnesota, we will be meeting tonight. We normally meet on the second Wednsday of the month. But, there was a conflict with were we meet and we had to put it back a week. Just this week I got your card Tom, about the NNL East coming up in April. So I will be bring the card tonight to the meeting and making announcement about it. I don't if anybody will be coming from our area. But, I appreciate you keeping us in the loop on this. Thanks. And please do come and visit us sometime. Either for a meeting or our NNL in early June each year.
  3. The Irish thing is a just a joke. And the offer to buy you dinner does still stand if you ever do make it to an MCCM meeting. And truth be told, Minnesota is a state of contrast climate wise. The last few days we where down below 0. But, in July and August it does get 90 degrees or higher. (So igloos get a little wet inside.) That's why I recommend visiting in the months of May or June. September is also pretty nice around here too.
  4. By the way, the stock steering wheel locks this kit to 1977. The '75 and '76 Scirocco had a different steering wheel. And we know the front end and bumpers were changed for '78. So it looks like AMT's Scirocco represents a '77 for sure.
  5. Now you tell me! ? Forget everything I've said Charlie. We only have snow all 12 months of year. We live in igloos. And all we eat is lutefisk. Plus we only build models of cars and trucks with rust and snow tires on them. I know you won't like it here at all. (You think that will work?)
  6. 1978? If the Scirocco followed a year later, why didn't they do it with the new front end facelift? The one with the wraparound turn signals and different bumpers? This kit coming out in 1979 would have put it two years behind the times update wise. Bill Coulter and Bob Shelton's "The Directory of Model Car Kits" indicate your right Art, on the AMT Rabbit kit appearing in 1978. And the Scirocco in 1979. I just don't understand why they would bring on a kit with a more than two years old design, when the facelift '78 and then new '79 Scrirocco are out. It would not have been tough to tool the '77 model into a '78-'79.
  7. The fed bumpers are really no different from European bumpers, other than how they were mounted. Tuck them in closer, that's basically all you need. Go back and read reviews on the car at the time. Volkswagen was proud that they were using the same bumpers on both versions.
  8. I give you credit for being willing to try it.
  9. Very cool to see how your doing this build Kevin. It will be interesting to see how it turns out.
  10. Looking forward to seeing the finished item Ray. It looks great now. By the way, because of you I went on eBay and bought the Silly Surfers 5 kit set. Don't know when, if ever, I'll build them. But, at the price on eBay I couldn't pass on the deal. The Hawk Silly Surfers have always been cool. Now, if I could just find one MPC's Hot Curl models. That would be cool too!
  11. Okay, I guess the sides on this '51 are not wood after all! ?
  12. What is being called Pacfica now? The Buick Avista or the new Chrysler Town & Country? Which one are you talking here in your comment above?
  13. Got the Round 2 reissue of AMT's mid to late 70's VW Scirocco. A quick glance in side the box, everything looks great. I wrote a little more about it the kit review section. The one real question I have, which I brought up there, is what year Scirocco does this kit represent exactly? The original style front end, with the single windshield wiper, makes me guess either 1976 or 1977. Does anybody know for sure?
  14. Just got mine today. Opened up the box. It looks like a nice little kit. Everything in the box looks great. No major flash at a quick glance. The chrome looks good. And the tires look better than what originally came with the kit back in the 70's. Small tires. But then again, the real car came with small tires and wheels, compared to what we're use to today. The only problem I see, is how is one suppose to duplicate the plaid upholstery that came in the real cars? The instructions tell you to paint them plaid! One last thing, anybody know for sure what year this kit is suppose to represent? The car has to be a '76 or '77. It has only one front windshield wiper. The 75's had two. And I think the front end was sightly revised, with the wraparound turn signals for 1978. So unless I hear differently, I'm going to assume it represents the '77 with fuel injection?
  15. I too agree with you.
  16. Charlie, I live on opposite side of Minneapolis. About 20 away from Burnsville. If you are coming, I'd wait until about May and June when it's beautiful here. When you do come out, remember the second Wednesday of every mouth is the Model Car Club of Minneasota meeting. I'm afraid it's on my side of town. But, if you get out here, we go out to dinner after each meeting and I'd be willing buy you a meal. And you will not have to have lutefisk. (In fact you can not get lutefisk were we go to eat!)
  17. Are the seats incorrect? True they do have headrests, but headrests were optional on the '67 Pontiacs. Including the GTOs.
  18. And your point here is? The sides of the wagon were wood. The tailgate was normally painted to look like wood.
  19. Oh, I forgot to mention who lutefisk was invented. Back in the Viking days, the Irish got tired of these rude northern neighbors coming to visit from time to time. So to get rid of them, they decided to start serving them cod poisoned with lye. Instead of killing the Vikings off. They kept coming back for second and third helpings. ?
  20. Okay, I had to save the image above. That pretty good humour.
  21. Oh, good! So I'm not going senile after all. ? I thought I remembered the cafe scene. After all it was pretty dramatic, and I thought helped move the story farther along.
  22. Ah, your all a bunch of wimps. Complaining about a little snow. Got to be tough (or is that stupid?) like us up here in the ice box of the lower 48. (Where again is that gun?) ?
  23. I went with friends to a lutefisk dinner last night at a local church. I've haven't had lutefisk since my mother passed away almost ten years ago now. For those who don't know, lutefisk is Scandinavian delicacy normally served around Christmas time. It is cod fish that has been preserved in lye. The lye is then soaked out of the fish. It is when cooked and consumed. It sounds awful, and amongst Scandinavians and non Scandinavians alike you'll hear a lot of jokes about how bad lutefisk is. Especially the smell. And the jello like texture. But, most of this is overly exaggerated. The smell is distinct. But, if it smells too strong and has a jello like appearance, it's been cooked wrong. Well cooked lutefisk should still be somewhat flaky, like normal fish. Normally lutefisk is not something I overly look forward to. I don't mind it. But, once a year around Christmas time has always been enough. And since not having it in last ten years, I was wondering if I was really going to like it at all now. I guess the Norwegian half of me still has a strong hold over me. I actually enjoyed it a lot! In fact I was surprised how much I liked it. I definitely plan on going back next year! Oh, and company I went with was great. One of the few high school friends I still keep in regular contact with, and his wife. He like me, is half Norwegian and half Fin. His wife is full Norwegian. (Not having any Finish blood in her, I feel sorry for her.) My buddy, who's also named Scott, sister is very active in the Lutheran church were this dinner takes place. I feel sorry for her poor husband, who has no Scandinavian background, raised Catholic, and has a allergy to eating fish. And yet every year he helps with severing this meal. Yet with his outgoing personality, don't feel too sorry for him. Between the Swedish meatballs and his active participation in the church, which he loves. I don't really feel sorry for him at all. I just think it was terrible of Scott's sister to take a nice Catholic boy like he was and corrupt him with the Lutheran ways and lutefisk. (Though in 25 or so years it hasn't seemed to harm him. And his Catholic parents and siblings, whom I also know, haven't rejected him. So I suspect he'll be okay.) One last thing. In case your wondering. There are a surprising number of people out there who like lutefisk. The church had at least three seatings, maybe more, with right around 200 people at each! And every year you have to get your tickets by November, because they sell out! So see. Lutefisk is maybe not that bad after all.
  24. Was Chuck's Cafe were Weaver's character considers confronting the different drivers, trying to figure out which one was trying to run him down? You know, where he orders the cheese sandwich and gets into a fight with one. I would have swore that was in the made for TV version. I thought I remember him looking over at each guy at the lunch counter, wondering if that was the guy. And what he should say to him?
  25. Nippy?! We'll have to nip you! California folk........ ?
