To the KOOL KATS at Round2
unclescott58 replied to Tye Brown's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I too am very happy with the job Round 2 is doing. I've purchased serveral of the above kits. It's great to have these old kits back. I love the old style box art. The information booklets included with several of the kits. The restoration of the kits and bring back earlier versions and parts. I also love the tampo printed tires. The new decals. The way the stuff in side the boxes is packaged. Protecting parts from each other. I like the mini boxes. I like just about everything Round 2 is doing. And, I've brought this up before. But, considering inflation and what I'm getting with these kits. I don't even mind the higher prices. I think they're offering a fair deal for the prices that are being asked for these kits. -
Wow Harry! Thank for the link getting here. I read the whole thing. Very interesting and impressive. And a very nice job your doing with it. This is way beyond my patients and modeling skills.. But it's fun and educational see your work on it. I like the amount of research your doing to get things right. I really respect that. Looking forward to seeing how this comes out in the future. Now I need to look up your thread on the RR and check that out.

Can see more of this please? -
Any '64 Studebaker would be cool. The last major big facelift Studebaker ever did to its cars. And a great one at that. The last year for Studebaker's own engines, hardtops, convertibles, and Hawks. Canadian built only Studebakers in '65. So only sedans and wagons with Chevrolet/McKinnon engines after '64. So 1964 gets my vote for the above reasons.

I wish Round 2 would update their website. It would be nice get a confirmation on what they plan on doing.

Round2/MPC Charger Street Machine.

So, other than wheels and headers this kit can be built basically stock? Since they give you 4 polyglas tires, besides the M/Ts, can this kit be built to ride at a somewhat stock level? In other words, not too jacked up it the rear? -
Looking forward to your review. Some good information you've given us above already.

Dave your right on the above info. In '62 the Ventura became and optional interior trim package on Catalinas trough 1969. The '62 trough '65 Ventura equipped Catilinas came with very small Ventura badging. The main focus was the Catalina name. Starting in '66, Ventura nameplates replaced the Catalina ones when the option was ordered. Making many assume Ventura was a seperate model those years. It was not. Also some years you could order the Ventura interior on the Catalina convertible. But your right, there were no Ventura convertibles in 1961. Or 1960 for that matter.

Another great review Tim. This is one of those cases where I'm glad to have the new kit, over than the original. I'm glad you compare this release to the original. Showing how much better Round 2 has done in restoring and enhancing this kit. I like both the new tires and wheels much better than what came in the original kit. Especially the tires, of course. I never knew exactly how the woodgrain pieces worked in the original kit. I always assumed they came pre-cut to right size a shape. Now seeing that they didn't and remembering their thickness, I'm glad Round 2 chose to go with decals instead. The booklets with some of these reissues have is always a great treat. I'm glad they've been keeping this idea going. There is only one very minor change I don't like to the reissue over the original, that they made. And this is so minor, and I have no plans on using it, so it almost not worth mentioning. On the new decal sheet their are two decals that now read: Alexander Bros. built tough trucks. On the original it said: Dodge builds tough trucks. Again, not a big deal. I prefer the ones that say Dodge. But either way, I probably would use those decals any how. People love to complain how expensive these new reissues are. When I look at inflation since the original kit came out. Plus the extra stuff they keep on giving us in these kits. I'm not complaining one bit. I feel I'm getting my monies worth.

The Vikings, or the Queens as we like to call them have gone to, and lost the Super Bowl 4 times! And, they have not appeared in a Super Bowl since the late 1970's. Okay, I found the gun. Now where is the ammo? ? By the way, I get a kick out of my digital thermometer. Earlier this evening as it dropped back to 0 Fahrenheit, my thermometer reported as minus 0. Minus 0? Is that even possible? Even the thermometers here are pessimistic about the temperatures here! I know that ammo is somewhere around here.....

Haven't the Bears won at least one Super Bowl? Not the Vikings!

I think we got the idea Snake. You like Revell snap kit better. ?

The '67 also had the short console on the real cars with bucket seats. -
I'm still waiting for someone to do an out of box/photo review on this one. How does this kit look?

I looked at buying one of these at Hobby Lobby a week or two ago. Had a 40% off coupon. With all of the old electrical parts missing, I just could not justify the price of kit. Even at 40% off. Sad. Building the original Renwall version with the electric starter/motor and the light up spark plugs is still one of my favorite childhood memories. I got my first one for Christmas 1971. The hand crank and non lighting spark plugs on the Revell boxed versions is just not the same.

1/25 Revell '72 Hurst/Olds Cutlass Kit

Interesting that no one has anything more to say about this kit in the last month. I wonder how this is selling? Is there any real interest in kits of cars like this? -

unclescott58 replied to stavanzer's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
By the way, it is a shame this kit can not be built stock. Though I have the Revell kit, I've always kind of liked the MPC kit better. I don't know why. But, I do. -
AMT Prestige '63 Corvette convertible
unclescott58 replied to FordRodnKustom's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
As a side note. The missing axle was in the folds of the box top. Beyond that, the kit is coming along nicely. I'm very impressed with how well the removable hardtop fits on top of the car. A very fine piece of engineering. There is a very small V in the bottom rear of the top that matches the small ridge on the rear deck perfectly. Also the front of the top seems to know how to sit on the windshield header just right. And the rear window fit and glued in perfectly. I'm impressed. -
Moebius '65 Mercury Comet Cyclone news
unclescott58 replied to Dave Metzner's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I too want to thank Dave for keeping us updated. Not does Dave/Moebius offer great kits. But he/they listen us, and keep us up to date on a regular basis. Dave and Moebuis are the best. And I too am looking forward to the '65 Cyclone. Growing up with Mercury Comets (not Cyclones though, I'm sorry to say), I naturally have a soft spot/interest in these cars. -
The Dalmations thing was a true story.

Oh well. At least it's over with now. I did not watch the Vikings play today, because of their past history. They always lose in the manner that's close. But, for stupid last minute mistakes. I can't watch it! So, feel sorry for us poor Minnesotans. We not only have to put with some of coldest weather in the nation on a regular basis. We also have been watching an almost good team lose in lame ways for 55 years. Now where's that gun again?

I remember watching this movie when it was first aired on ABC in the early 70's. And being blown away by it. I'm glad that the truck didn't blow up in the end. That would have been too cliche. The view of the crashed cab interior, with the dash board mounted fan still spinning was much more interesting. At the time, it made me wonder if the crazy driver could have survived? Is subsequent viewings, I don't think so. But, I liked the none blowing up ending. Where is this miraculous repairing radiator hose you guys are talking about. The radiator hose didn't go until near the end of the movie. And after he get the car slightly cooled down in the down hill neutral run, that car never ran well again. He was barely able to limp it to the area where the end of film took place. Notice the trunk lid trim on the Valiant in the later added scenes with the '72. The earlier Valiants used in the movie had a extra cost trim package with an aluminum trim piece on the lower edge of the trunk lid. This was not available on the '72 Valiants. So they made one using some kind of silver tape. It's most noticeable in the scene where the truck is trying to push the car into the train. One last thing. I'm glad we saw the arm of the guy driving. This made it more realistic and scary to think there was some nut ball guy behind the wheel. And not just some mysterious possessed vehicle. I've seen and heard about angry truck drivers in real life. But, never any truly proven possessed vehicles. So the idea of a real driver scares me even more. For years it made think about how I drove near certain trucks. One of the great all time classic films. Worth not only viewing, but owning on DVD. I own a copy.

Haven't seen that in several years. Still funny.
