  2. Harry I think they really only killed off the Plymouth nameplate. Not the Plymouth line/type of cars. It was always been my understanding that the "P" in Chrysler's PT Cruise originally stood for Plymouth. But, as vehicle neared production, they decided to killed off the Plymouth badge. After all the Chrysler name meant something in Europe. Plymouth did not. And Chrysler was looking at selling the PT Cruiser and other vehicles in Europe. Notice, about that time the Plymouth Prowler became the Chrysler Prowler. I feel they moved the Chrysler name more downmarket to fill in for Plymouth. So is Plymouth really dead? Or they now just called Chrysler? And are the true Chrysler type of vehicle dead, within Chrysler?
  3. ???? Pecking order in GM was Chevrolet at the bottom. Division number 1. Pontiac is next, with its division number as 2. Followed by Oldsmobile at #3. Buick's division number is 4. Cadillac's is 6. Number 5? LaSalle. These division numbers go back to 1936. Alfred P. Sloan believed in a car priced for every purse. He laid this order out in the 1920's. Before that, several GM lines over lapped. Competing with each other in some cases. Sloan is the one who straighted this out. There was still some overlapping. But, in general you moved up in price from Chevrolet to Pontiac (and Oakland). Your next step us was Oldsmobile. Then to Buick. The next step was LaSalle. And finialy Cadillac. There were a few missteps along the way. With the success of Oakland's companion make Pontiac. And Cadillac's LaSalle. They gave Buick the Marquette. And Oldsmobile the Viking. Both makes were designed to fill a perceived gap between Oldsmobile and Buick. They both failed. Pontiac stole Oakland's market away. And in 1941 the LaSalle was made into the lower priced Cadillac Series 61. So Olds was never seen as an "entry-level Cadillac, somewhere between Buick and Caddy." Things again got a little blurry between the lines starting in the 1960's. Olds and Buick aiming at the same basic market with similar cars. But, from the 1920's through the 1950's at least. Buick always stood between Cadillac and Oldsmobile.
  4. A lovely car. The more I see it, the more I like it. The name means nothing to me. Bring it out as Riviera. It looks like a modern interpretation of what a Riviera should be.
  5. Wow! Your right. Read the bit on the new box about the Alexander bros. building the truck. No mention of a Dodge A-100 there. Just a 1965 Compact Pickup. Interesting. If I was Chrysler I would have let them keep the Dodge references. After all it's a cool truck. And a cool part of Dodge's history.

  8. I'm not saying this to be smart a**. But, I bet Dave reads the comments on Moebuis truck kits in the truck section. The F-100 kits have been reviewed there. That would be a good place to ask the above questions. I too would like to know the answers to them.

  10. I too am very happy with the job Round 2 is doing. I've purchased serveral of the above kits. It's great to have these old kits back. I love the old style box art. The information booklets included with several of the kits. The restoration of the kits and bring back earlier versions and parts. I also love the tampo printed tires. The new decals. The way the stuff in side the boxes is packaged. Protecting parts from each other. I like the mini boxes. I like just about everything Round 2 is doing. And, I've brought this up before. But, considering inflation and what I'm getting with these kits. I don't even mind the higher prices. I think they're offering a fair deal for the prices that are being asked for these kits.
  11. Wow Harry! Thank for the link getting here. I read the whole thing. Very interesting and impressive. And a very nice job your doing with it. This is way beyond my patients and modeling skills.. But it's fun and educational see your work on it. I like the amount of research your doing to get things right. I really respect that. Looking forward to seeing how this comes out in the future. Now I need to look up your thread on the RR and check that out.

  13. Any '64 Studebaker would be cool. The last major big facelift Studebaker ever did to its cars. And a great one at that. The last year for Studebaker's own engines, hardtops, convertibles, and Hawks. Canadian built only Studebakers in '65. So only sedans and wagons with Chevrolet/McKinnon engines after '64. So 1964 gets my vote for the above reasons.
  14. I wish Round 2 would update their website. It would be nice get a confirmation on what they plan on doing.
  15. So, other than wheels and headers this kit can be built basically stock? Since they give you 4 polyglas tires, besides the M/Ts, can this kit be built to ride at a somewhat stock level? In other words, not too jacked up it the rear?

  17. Dave your right on the above info. In '62 the Ventura became and optional interior trim package on Catalinas trough 1969. The '62 trough '65 Ventura equipped Catilinas came with very small Ventura badging. The main focus was the Catalina name. Starting in '66, Ventura nameplates replaced the Catalina ones when the option was ordered. Making many assume Ventura was a seperate model those years. It was not. Also some years you could order the Ventura interior on the Catalina convertible. But your right, there were no Ventura convertibles in 1961. Or 1960 for that matter.
  18. Another great review Tim. This is one of those cases where I'm glad to have the new kit, over than the original. I'm glad you compare this release to the original. Showing how much better Round 2 has done in restoring and enhancing this kit. I like both the new tires and wheels much better than what came in the original kit. Especially the tires, of course. I never knew exactly how the woodgrain pieces worked in the original kit. I always assumed they came pre-cut to right size a shape. Now seeing that they didn't and remembering their thickness, I'm glad Round 2 chose to go with decals instead. The booklets with some of these reissues have is always a great treat. I'm glad they've been keeping this idea going. There is only one very minor change I don't like to the reissue over the original, that they made. And this is so minor, and I have no plans on using it, so it almost not worth mentioning. On the new decal sheet their are two decals that now read: Alexander Bros. built tough trucks. On the original it said: Dodge builds tough trucks. Again, not a big deal. I prefer the ones that say Dodge. But either way, I probably would use those decals any how. People love to complain how expensive these new reissues are. When I look at inflation since the original kit came out. Plus the extra stuff they keep on giving us in these kits. I'm not complaining one bit. I feel I'm getting my monies worth.
  19. The Vikings, or the Queens as we like to call them have gone to, and lost the Super Bowl 4 times! And, they have not appeared in a Super Bowl since the late 1970's. Okay, I found the gun. Now where is the ammo? ? By the way, I get a kick out of my digital thermometer. Earlier this evening as it dropped back to 0 Fahrenheit, my thermometer reported as minus 0. Minus 0? Is that even possible? Even the thermometers here are pessimistic about the temperatures here! I know that ammo is somewhere around here.....

  24. I looked at buying one of these at Hobby Lobby a week or two ago. Had a 40% off coupon. With all of the old electrical parts missing, I just could not justify the price of kit. Even at 40% off. Sad. Building the original Renwall version with the electric starter/motor and the light up spark plugs is still one of my favorite childhood memories. I got my first one for Christmas 1971. The hand crank and non lighting spark plugs on the Revell boxed versions is just not the same.
