It might depend on what they used to put it on with. I use a similar colored paint to put on flocking. some people use bottle glue. I don't know how you would get that off.

MPC Datsun California Sunshine Decals
pharoah posted a topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Has anyone on here ever built this kit and used the decals? I don't see how they could fit around all those curves and cutouts and still look good. They're 40 years old, too. I'm thinking of getting some decal film and making my own. Not crazy about the colors either. -

I know what you mean Jeff. This is a great forum. I've had members give me parts, too. I try to reciprocate when I cab. -
I wonder what the 50 Chevy pickup will be this time. Stock? Coca Cola? Texaco? Hopefully not that horrible 'custom' version. My wish would be for a 1-1/2 ton flatbed. That will never happen.

Nice!! One of my next projects!

1/8 Scale Race Car Frame Original Design Build
pharoah replied to regular guy's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Unusual suspension choice, but I guess it's a good one. I envisioned something more high tech . Are you going with a front engine? -
Nice! I bought a project Big Deuce from fkeabay a few years back. I was amazed at how big it is,even though I had other 1/8th kits.

Original AMT '57 Bel Air detailing questions
pharoah replied to Monty's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I'm not an expert, but as far as I know - yes they did have gold mesh grille, gold 'V' on the hood and trunk and gold 'louvers' near the headlights. As for painting, you might try Tamiya gold, and the a black wash to fill in the openings. Good luck. I'm sure others will chime in on this. -
It seems like factory speca are not always carved in stone. David,I wonder if there was a parts 'overlap; when changing from one year to the next.I doubt if they worried about engine parts matching exactly. Most people never opened the hood. They would have used leftover parts from the previous (or the next) year .Just my .02. Thanks

Very cool! Thanks guys! I was thinking either dark blue or green,

What is the proper color for a 1949 Ford car flathead V8? Is the air cleaner black? Thanks

That's true,it was aimed at a lot of us here. lol They would have had to retool the entire body, interior tub, and front end, too.

I've noticed the complaints about the flipnose Datsun.I have no idea why MPC did it that way. it's like they never looked at a real truck. You can't have the hood open righ in fromt of the windshield, that's where the back of the dash and the wipers are. Here is a picture of a real Datsun I did in the early 80's. It had been hit in the right front. The fender have to cut because they would hit the doors when you raised the front.I got the idea from Truckin' magazine. I should build a model of this.BTW,if any of you need some detail shots, let me know. I have lots of them, and the kit has a lot of errors.

LOL I know. In their brochure ,they show a Torino on the hook. I imagine it did a wheelie every time they started. It was more a novelty than anything. There was one for sale on Ebay about 4 years ago for $4500.

Here's another variation of a Datsun for the ambitious modeler. These were actually available in the 70's.

Very nice!

Don't forget Veronica Lake and Laurenn Bacall...

I'm retired, but not that bored. Yeah, your father in law could make one of Marilyn Monroe..That would keep him bust for a while.
