  1. It could be due to the environmental restrictions that the cemical composition of those colors has been changed. Nowadays several things are forbitten that have been in everyday use back in the day. Just try it, Gareth - can be cool, if just for something different. I also weathered a IH Paystar logging truck, but this was heavily overdone. Thanks, Dan!
  2. Nice model, Pat! I remember March and Williams doing some testing with their 6wheelers, but those were finally abandoned - Tyrrell was the only one racing; IIRC, Jody Scheckter managed its only win in Sweden 1976.
  3. NIce Thunderbird, Dave - just enough customizing - which proves again: less is more ! (in some of my old amt kits are custom parts that are so ugly and would heavily deface the body lines of the original)
  4. Thank you, Gerald!
  5. Thank you, Rusty, glad you like them. Thank you, Bill - but my most of my builds are mediocre at best. But the one that you built (I've looked up all the photos)- excellent in this mint green - I couldn't come close to that! Thanks, Carl! Thanks, David!
  6. Thanks, Gareth - it didn't come out as I wanted, but it was my first trial. Thank you Charles - the color are Humbrol enamels which I bought 40 years ago - as other modelers here on the board said, they have obviously have altered their recipe, and the paint is not so smooth anymore. i have not bought any of these in the last 20 years, so I have no actual experiences with them. Back then, you could brush glossy paints on evenly (directly on the plastic), and they covered the bodies almost without any streaks - for brushes I always bought cheap sets of hair brushes: 5 or 6 brushes in different sizes which cost between 6 and 9 $ a set) Thanks, Brian!
  7. Very good looking rig - looks like it is parked ouside a small trucker's cafe down in the south west (sceneries from the movie "Duel" come to my mind...beware of rattlesnakes!)
  8. You built an excellent rig, Gareth, from a not-so-easy-to-build kit !
  9. Thanks, Carl! Thank you, Gary - interesting background from Fred Cady. Thank you, David.
  10. Very pleasing color, Tom (detailing too...) - I also have this one in my stash.
  11. Thanks, Carl! Thank you, David - this was one of the attractions for me in the '80s: two-tone paint jobs and white walls on the '50s cars...
  12. Thank you, David!
  13. About 1985 or 86 I built 2 Monogram '56 Thunderbirds: one was built stock out-of-the box, brush-painted with Humbrol light blue directly onto the red plastic. The other was robbed of its Continental kit (I needed this for a slightly customized '56 Ford), so I tried to make a '55 lookalike out of it (front bumper from a 3rd one was used at the rear, portholes of the hardtop were closed with sheet plastic and putty), steering wheel and some other details are wrong, but it got the look - inspiration for the white paint came from the movie "American Graffiti" - I know Susan Somers had a '56, but who cares? White paint is from rattle-cans, hardtops of both cars, too.
  14. Well, I would say not bad for 50 yrs. old - golden oldies !
  15. Thanks, Carl - expecially the Barchetta is a bit toylike looking, but I think these are workable...
  16. Exactly - is this the Italeri re-issue of the old Protar kit?
  17. Thank you Dave, this was a leftover part from a '56 T-Bird I just backdated to a '55 and therefore deleted the Continental kit.
  18. Thank you for the nice compliments, Josh - very appreciated!
  19. Looks great, David - I don't know how you do it but you always manage to build conversions that look as natural as they came out of the factory !
  20. Thanks for the hint, David!
  21. Thank you Bob! Interesting Info, David - but as I have no airbrush, I'm depending on the available spray-cans.
  22. Thank you Tony ! Merci, Philippe - all the originals (except one that was white for a movie production) were painted in a similar color .
  23. Very nice Chevy, Josh - this is not an easy kit - it gave me a lot of troubles (it has a few issues - or was it me?) I tried mine with a stock ride height and it came out as if it is doing an emergency stop. I should have gone for the lowered option as you did - very nice interior and engine wiring!
  24. Thanks, Rich - indeed it was not easy !
