Very nice, Rich - which interior did you use (the X-EL promos at least didn't have one) ?
-
built in 1984, out-of-the-box, cab/hood brush-painted, dumper body sprayed with Revell matte grey enamel . My very first try on weathering a vehicle (using Revell matte light brown and matte clear from the spray-can) lets it look like a brand-new truck after its first working day on a muddy construction site... (At least this is one of the few that has survived several moves undamaged...)

Absolutely outstanding workmanship, David - I would have thought that this conversion was a factory stock model! -
Thank you, Sam ! Thank you, Patrick - Batman's choice for Saturday night cruising? Thanks, Chris !

Looks good Warren - very pleasing color combination - inspires me! -
Thank you, Dennis !

Thanks for the compliments, Rusty. Dark metallic green with turquoise and white interior sounds like a great combination. On my next build, I will fill the sink marks and drill 4 holes into the front so that I can make recessed headlights (as with the real car). Thanks, Lee !

My thoughts, exactly - it looks like fresh from the factory - wonderful model with nicely blended-in bodyparts from different vehicles ! -
By the way, I found a picture on the net of my childhood '59 T-Bird - it was a soft vinyl toy car with 2 passengers on the front seats and a dog on the back seat - practically indestructible - available from 1963 onwards, made by Tomte-Laerdal of Norway (scale must be about 1/43) - I had the orange one : ideal for the sandpit!

Thank you, Craig! Thanks, Glen ! Thanks, Tom ! Thank you, Ray - the doors fit quite well, but with my next one maybe I will glue them shut.

Thanks, Terry ! Thank you, David - i had this color at hand back then (the black interior is unpainted, bare plastic with touches of white, applied with a tooth-pick). I've got a second one (2002 issue) which will be painted in coral red with an interior in the same color; this time I will also fill some sink marks (behind the front wheels) with putty, a job I left out the first time... Thank you! Thanks, Gareth - I've got a crush on these "Squarebirds" since my childhood.

Ferrari 365 GTS/4 Fujimi EM (Unknown builder)

Thank you Kurt - good to know that one has to pay attention to warped hoods (as soon as I start building my own Daytonas) - this one has not been built by myself, I only repaired a few things and replaced some missing parts. The laurels should go to the former owner/modeler of this kit: his detailing with plug wires was the reason for me to save this one instead of cannibalizing it. Thank you Gareth - this is one of the all-time classics (among many others) from Ferrari! -
Thank you very much for the compliments, Spence !

Very nice, Spence - I have been thinking for years about doing the same conversion.

When I restarted modeling in the early 80's, my main focus was on American trucks and cars - one of my holy grails at that time was Monogram's 58 T-bird (probably because I remembered one soft plastic toy from early childhood?) - anyway, I found a rare 1974 version ("special interest" series) - here is how it came out... Color is Duplicolor Citroen cream from the rattle can, which seemed to me a fitting color for such a car.

Excellent guild, John - very nice color and chrome trim !

Very nice build, Anders - as we are used to see from you. The cream color fits surprisingly well, as does the lowered body.

Very nice replica of Wilbur Shaw's 1939 Indy winner, David! -
2 years ago, I took a chance to buy 5 built kits for a total amount of € 18,00 (about $ 21) including postage – it was a STEAL ! ( They were advertised on an Austrian website where you can sell – without any fees – things you don’t need any more, either new or used - I have sold a lot of my kits and built-ups there). They were 5 red cars (obviously air-brushed and nicely detailed, but some parts missing) : · ESCi Lancia Beta Montecarlo Gr. 5 (drivers: Walter Röhrl/Ricardo Patrese) from 1980 – decals yellowed, some parts loose, but complete : this was what I wanted (very expensive today, if you ever find one) · Fujimi EM Dino 246 GT – wanted for its drivetrain (robbed for a commission build) and wheels: this one I also wanted to have! · The other 3 are missing a few parts and were intended to give up their wheels: Fujimi EM Ferrari 288 GTO, Fujimi EM Ferrari 365 GTS/4 and Hasegawa Ferrari 328 GTS. On closer inspection I discovered that the 365 GTS (Daytona Spider) was too nice a model to be cannibalized: it had some parts come loose (front bumpers, grill, left rear wheel), some parts were missing (wipers, outside rear view mirror, one exhaust tip, front lights, license plates), the windshield was a bit scratched and dirty, its frame broken – but the builder /seller whose name I do not remember anymore had put much effort into detailing the engine bay: wiring, plumbing – I never could have done this (I’ve got no nerves for such delicate work)! So I decided to save this one though I would not have painted it in the ever-present red – I repaired the windshield frame, polished the glass, re-glued the loose parts and cannibalized an old Italeri Daytona for mirror, windshield wipers and all 4 exhaust tips which are a little bit thicker than Fujimi’s. As a final touch, I applied a piece of chrome foil onto the inside mirror, a prancing horse in the center of the steering wheel and some Bologna license plates front and rear from an old Protar Alfa Romeo kit. Unfortunately, the hood is a bit warped (but I didn’t want to ruin the model when trying to straighten this out), so I just let it as it is. The headlights are still missing, but you will only notice that when you take a look closely up front, as they would be mostly hidden by the front bumpers anyway. It was a rewarding job to save this one – and I still have 4 other Fujimi Daytonas EM left in my stash (2 spiders, 1 coupé and the Pininfarina Berlinetta speciale) ! I would say - a few hours of fun, and a real steal : about 4 $ for 1 model!
