I kind of floated over here after BMC was shut down. Escale just never had the right feel for me, although it seemed like a really nice place

I remember having the Avanti kit when I was a kid and all these parts were in that kit as well.

I just saw that MCG has some PE calipers. I am having a hard time picturing the finished product. Has anyone worked with these yet? I love MCG stuff, but I hate that they don't show assembled pics of their miscellaneous stuff. https://www.modelcargarage.com/store/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=436&idcategory=

Plum Island by Nelson DeMille. I read The Lion's Game in high school. He's my 3rd cousin twice removed or something like that. Never met him, but some of my family has talked to him. I decided to start at the beginning of the John Corey books, which are his main character series. If you like police detective/terrorist/dark humor action type of stuff, you will like these books.

UPDATED 6/12 - 1968 Hemi Dart - Body Mounted, Almost Done
Quick GMC replied to Quick GMC's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Finally had some time to get a little bit done on this one. Had some paint issues, but got them all worked out. Had to sand a few areas and touch them up, then spray a couple more coats of clear to blend in. Worked out pretty good, but it was tricky. These pictures are pretty bad, from my cell phone, but I was excited that I got something done so I had to post. Clear was 2 part clear from Gravity Colors. 1st time using 2 part, so it didn't go super smoothly, but I like it. I will be using it again. Sanded and polished with Tamiya compounds Used BMF, which I am getting better at, but still need a bit of practice. I am realizing that you get much better results by using a single piece, rather than doing it in sections. I am not going to remove the other pieces I did in sections. I taped off next to the windows with Tamiya's new striping tape, this stuff is realy, REALLY good. It stays down well when taped on a radius. I taped them off so I could sand the trim smooth, this was the foil would lay down smoother. anyway, this is it for now. I couldn't help but put the body on to check out the stance- 101 replies

Building Better Shocks for the Revell '29 Ford Roadster
Quick GMC replied to Quick GMC's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
If you can get something that works other than solder, I would definitely recommend it. All I had at the time was the solder and copper and I wanted the natural look and was too impatient to wait to go buy something else.- 21 replies

I also emailed and received a prompt reply, and they have added the dimensions to the product pages. Bob beat me to it. Scale Motorsport has always had great customer service. -

Dilemma - What Color Cooling Fins on 427 Cobra
Quick GMC replied to Quick GMC's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I would prefer body color, but i have had trouble with paint laying down nicely on metal parts before. Also, I have tried Tamiya metal primer, it all ends up thick, I want these to stay nice and crisp. Any suggestions on painting PE pieces? -
I am in the middle of doing all the body work on a Revell Cobra 427. I am using the Hobby Designs Photo Etch set, but it is designed for the Fujimi kit, and EVERYTHING has to be modified to accomodate. In hindsight, I might have been better off just trying to open the plastic vents. However, I am here now. My question is, would it be weird to leave the cooling fins bare metal? I want them to look nice and crisp, and in my previous experience, painting small PE pieces black hasn't looked great, and they are not reacting to blackening solution. The other option would be to do carbon fiber decals, but I don't want a modern look. I am not going for any particular car, just clean detail. I will post a WIP when I have something worthy of showing. Right now it's just a bunch of fine tuning on the body to get everything to fit.

It's not California now, it's global. GHS (Global Harmonization System) went into mandatory effect last June. MSDS are now SDS (Safety Data Sheets). manufacturers world wide are now on the same system. It's a good thing, but a massive Cluster F. I had to throw out $1000's of my own labels and reprint with revisions. It is still legal for distributors to sell stock that is not compliant, but it is illegal for mfg.s to ship new product without being compliant.

I just bought this light for my DSLR for doing videos. Not sure if it's going to cut it for me, but since it is a standalone light, it can work for other stuff. It's pretty cool for the price. I made this video, which doesn't do this justice. This thing is really bright and works incredibly well for inspecting the paint on models, especially if you are in a poorly lit area. Here is a link to the product http://www.amazon.com/NEEWER®-Dimmable-Digital-Camcorder-Panasonic/dp/B004TJ6JH6/ref=sr_1_4?s=photo&ie=UTF8&qid=1460008060&sr=1-4&keywords=led+camera+light

I have actually changed my mind. I am 95% sure I will be going with the Challenger. A little more money up front, but in the end, less expensive than it would be to make the Mustang the way I want it. More room for the family. Chances of me actually doing track days and finding the handling limits of either car are slim to none, realistically. As it sits right now, the plan is that this will be my next car. Depending on where I am at financially, I may or may not be able to afford the Shaker version, but it will be a Scat Pack with the 392 SRT motor. Non Shaker Shaker version (another $5k) Considering white too

I don't buy it for one second. I use CA a TON for filling chips in the face of granite slabs. It can't be used in direct UV light or wet areas, but for what we use it for it is perfect. It can be shaved flush with a razor, polished, color tinted, etc. Since CA is an anaerobic sealer and cures instantly with the absence of oxygen, we have to use an accelerator to fill open pits. It will sit in a cup for 20 minutes and not dry. I have never experienced accelerated deterioration or any less integrity with these repairs. If it does make a difference, it is so minimal, it's a non issue.

Whenever I get annoyed with how an educational video is filmed, I try and remind myself that someone was cool enough to take the time to film it in the first place.
