16v72 powered IH 4070A
vincen47 replied to TruckerAL's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Well, that’s some impressive power under there, just try to keep it on the road with the shiny side up, and the greasy side down. Great build! -
That’s too bad. Sorry to see that. I hope it’s a clean break and you’re able to repair it ok.

Nice! That’s a great-looking truck. I like the added details, especially those stack tips. Along with the sleeper, makes for a build that really stands out from the rest.

Nice build, for sure. What blue is that? Looks exactly the part.

Interesting. First time I’ve seen class 8 trucks in 1:18. Funny they mislabeled the listing as a W900, when it’s a Pete 359. But maybe the photos were swapped from another listing and they actually make a W9 as well. I agree, if they were in 1/25 or 1/24 I’d take a closer look. But, I also agree that it’s a different market, for the most part, being there are plastic kit builders and diecast collectors. Some do both, so there’s a little overlap. Myself, I have very few diecasts (outside of hot wheels), Maybe enough to count on one hand. The general stipulation being they must match the plastic kit scales, be of comparable detail, and usually be a subject not kitted. This eliminates most of them. Plus, I like building.

Spectacular build! Truly impressive scratch building and detail. Great weathering. I’ve enjoyed watching it come together. Looks like it would stink up the room! -

Fantastic build! A 1:1 of that would be a whole lotta fun. -
I’m looking forward to it. It’s always a great show.

Nice paint color, for sure. That era of the LTL 9000 has always been one of my favorite trucks. -
Old AMT model kits... why not to reissue those?
vincen47 replied to Drago's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Yes, great answers above, for sure. Tooling availability is key. But, with enough time, money and interest, modern tech has been able to bring back some kits that have been long dead through 3d scanning. Can’t say the most obscure projects will come to fruition, but some highly sought-after kits with partially or fully non-existent tooling may again see the light of day. The Ertl IH 4070a, for example. We thought we’d never see it again, and there it was. -
Yep, even with the “snap” 359, it’s best to glue it. And like it’s been posted above, CA (super) glue and the liquid solvent cements are best no matter which kit it is, they’ll make your building process go so much better. For clear parts, use canopy glue or Micro Krystal Klear.

Gofer Racing makes some generic decal sheets for trucking-related companies. Some may include municipality-type markings, at least coming them with the kit decals might give you what you need. For the conspicuity markings, I can be more specific: Line O Tape makes a 1/24 1/25 scale roll of exactly what you need. Self adhesive and a bonus, just like the real thing - reflective, too.

Freightliner Powerliner Back out !
vincen47 replied to Mr mopar's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I’m considering getting one for myself, along with the photo etch set from ST Supply. Keystone also has the FLB and International Fleetstar out now, too. -
Thanks for letting us know. So sorry to hear. I ordered several times from him over the past few years. He contributed greatly to our hobby. He will be missed.

GMC Topkick Rollback with 64 GMC 1 ton
vincen47 replied to DRIPTROIT 71's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Nice job with both of them. A nice clean build for the Topkick, looks fresh, maybe out on one of its first jobs. The ol gmc is great too. Nice details in the bed, and I like the old rag for a fuel cap.
