Kenneth Howard A.K.A. Von Dutch
ChrisBcritter replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This could be it: Full story: A photographer/photo collector friend of mine knew I was a car nut, and he gave me a batch of eight photos taken in L.A. in the 1940s of Cords and one Auburn speedster. Most were modified in some way, and this one has a '42 Cadillac front clip and maybe rear fenders ('41 Caddy trim on the hood). Whether it's actually the Von Dutch car, I don't know for sure - I sent copies of the photos to Rik Hoving but he didn't say if this was "the" Cordillac or not. Still, how many could there be? -
Phoro-etched screen source?
ChrisBcritter replied to MonoPed's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
An Australian eBay seller named "a-modeler" has Eduard photoetched mesh in many styles and the prices are reasonable, even with shipping from down under; I've bought a couple sheets from them. Here's the 4x4 hex pattern; there's also 6x6 (I believe the intended scale is 1/35): http://www.ebay.com/sch/m.html?_ssn=a-modeler&hash=item3f5ebbb5cb%3Ag%3AYnEAAOSwoudW6I-u&item=272172299723&_from=R40&_sacat=0&_nkw=eduard+mesh&LH_PrefLoc=2 -
Could you post a shot of the contents? I'd like to see how that Aqua Pearl plastic looks on the body. And for you modeling masochists, the roof from this car combined with a '65 Olds 88 body would give a good start on a '65 Starfire.

How About Some Stalled Projects?
ChrisBcritter replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Me three. When I started this '61 Falcon (a sloppy green builtup I got at an Old Town Escorts meet), it was intended to be a current-style street machine. Now it's a nostalgic '70s street machine. Mishmosh of Pinto, Mustang II and SC/Rambler bits in the interior and chassis; grille was modded with sections cut from a '62 Cutlass grille and '76 Eldo headlights. Four-lugs in the front, five-lugs in the back . I may rethink that SBF engine, or at least beef it up. Assembled with the miracle of masking tape: The spoiler does need to be finessed a bit... -
Thanks for posting that photo - I have a vacuformed uptop I picked up on eBay recently that was supposed to be for a '59 Chevy; doesn't quite fit my '59 Bonneville but it looks like a match for yours. Now to see if it will fit my '62 Impala...

Got tires and some extra stock bits from the IMC VW - thanks Vince and Brad - and started to Frankenstein the VW rims with the Hubley Renault hubs for the Dauphine project; just in time as I just finished the mods to the curbside chassis. Wonder how much more work I'll have to do before Ebbro brings out a full-detail Dauphine?

Let's See Some Glue Bombs!
ChrisBcritter replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This Ranchero kit must have been a big seller for AMT, the way these originals keep turning up - did they keep it in production longer than usual, like they did with the '60 El Camino? Did the Styline version come out at the same time, or later? -

From gardnerpag44, a '55 Nomad tailgate - so a parts car is now a builder - thanks! And from eBay, a Monogram NASCAR T-bird engine; the headers will be adapted to fit the SOHC for the '58 Ford.

In 1973, who could have guessed that,

Let alone Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Fats Domino, and Jerry Lee Lewis. (Now if you'd said Pat Boone, I'd have said, "That I believe." ) -

Are you going to try to build one of the Buicks up? I have a grille/front bumper - needs rechroming and the tab with the screw holes is cut off, but still savable. PM me if you need it.

Cover it with plain aluminum foil, burnish it down tight, lift off the foil and fill it with Bondic or resin, and you've got it - once it dries remove it from the foil, attach it to the model, foil it using adhesive or Bare-Metal. -
I'm currently looking for a set of headers for the SOHC engine I'm building; of course there's not much available so I'm thinking of just modifying flanges to make an existing set work. I've noticed these from the 1/24 Monogram NASCAR T-bird: Can someone tell me how wide these are where I marked on the photo? Thanks! (And if you have a better suggestion, let me know - the engine is going into an AMT '57 Ford chassis with a straight axle setup.)

They certainly were sold in the USA - here's mine back in 1979: Hope they do a wagon...
