Great haul, Bucky! I was looking at the Buick but decided to let it go (and sorry, Scot, for not getting back to you). Shame about the Lark; can probably be fixed if you have all the pieces. Get ready for some fine drilling and pinning - tedious but doable.

Started working on making correctly-shaped '62 Chrysler wheelcovers; cut up two Jo-Han covers to separate the centers and outer rims - will take photos when I get one good master. Also cut away the halves of the broken '62 Newport windshield frame from the vent windows so I can realign, pin and glue them without a dip in the middle.

You might have three issues. One: In a small cavity mold, it may be difficult to get the UV light in to all areas to cure the Bondic evenly. Two: Bondic doesn't stick well to smooth surfaces; you'd need to rough up the insulation. Three: You'd have to pour it in a few layers to get it to cure completely.- 23 replies

Opinions wanted-future project

Which takes us back to the Deora kit - later issues have those baby moon reversed wheels. Plus you get a nicely dressed-up Slant Six in the bargain. -

What Did You Get Today? (Not Model Related)
ChrisBcritter replied to LOBBS's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Got an 8mm home movie of the Glenview Naval Air Station Open House day from May 1965. Ran it through the viewer and found not only great shots of aircraft, but a lot of views from the parking lot (hard to believe somebody still drove a Renault 4CV!). Other shots showed a new red '65 Impala on a viewing stand for a raffle (the display would make a good diorama), and most unusually, a '63 Ford Country Sedan in an attractive blue and white Chicago PD Canine Unit scheme. Would be a unique way to finish a Paul Hettick resin, now that the dog-dish (!) hubcaps are available. I'll try to get it digitized soon and grab some stills for the 1:1 section. -

1/25 AMT 1964 Olds Cutlass F85 Convertible
ChrisBcritter replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
It's been suggested; also the roof from the '65 Chevelle Modified Stocker. I wouldn't be surprised if we see a hardtop body from Missing Link. Also noticed seller vintagemodelcarparts is parting an F-85 vert out on eBay right now. -

Yes - they're '61 Dodge, from the early issues of the AMT '49 Ford kit; as usual, more correctly shaped than the ones in the Jo-Han kit. -

Yes, the Revell wheels look a bit undersized. Maybe check into the deep chrome reverse 13" wheels from early issues of the Deora: Those wheels are little jewels; they're mounted in modified Chevette plastic tires in front and resin copies of AMT compact tires (with the plastic piece that Espo mentioned) in the rear. If you do want to go with a stock look, search out the custom wheelcovers in the old AMT '64 El Camino - they're duplicates of the stock Lancer units but they're a little larger. -

Per Spielberg, it was his largely improvised role as the motel manager ("the night man") in Orson Welles' Touch of Evil. His only Twilight Zone appearance was the episode "Shadow Play" which was written by Charles Beaumont.

My old Winross semi got knocked off the shelf and one front tire crumbled; anyone know of replacements? Surprised to find none on eBay.

Worked more on the Newport(s); got the interior out of the tan one (popping a hole in the trunklid as I did so ), and pulled out the purple Metalflake one I got from Tom Piagari to compare and inventory the parts. So far I have almost enough for two complete cars if I cast up some bits and make a vacuform buck for another windshield. If anyone's so inclined, I did a little checking against the Jo-Han 300: The windshields don't interchange (Revell is at least 1/16" narrower at the top) but transplanting the complete 300 roof and glass looks doable if you want a Newport hardtop. Vent windows are the same height. One more Revell hint: Cut a 1/16" notch in the top of the front bumper where it mates to the body, otherwise it sticks out too far and won't align with the wheel openings. This is juuuust in case Atlantis does indeed reissue the Revell kit (they have the molds).

Hobby Lobby re-opening
ChrisBcritter replied to Mike999's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Stopped at Deerfield today for more casting rubber; a few more people in there than usual. Nothing new or on sale in the model aisle; checked the clearance rack and found a lot of acrylic craft paints. Nothing else model-related but did get a two-pack of black Sharpie Extreme UV-resistant markers at a buck twenty-nine. There was an Iwata Neo siphon-fed airbrush still marked down to $59.95 from last year, if anyone wants to snag it. -
Picked up more casting rubber at HL today; now to master some corrected '62 Chrysler wheelcovers...

Hobby Lobby re-opening
ChrisBcritter replied to Mike999's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The stores in the NW suburbs are open again. I shouldn't have much trouble social distancing in HL - even before the pandemic the stores weren't very busy. -
The weirdo Torq-Thrusts are from the AMT '63 Bonneville, and bravo to you for having found an actual use for the darn things! The ones in the Metalflake version of the Revell '62 Chrysler are very similar.

Opinions on upgrading rare vintage cars
ChrisBcritter replied to Mike Young's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Got similar plans for a '65 Olds, with a '65 Grand Prix roof and glass to make a Jetstar I (measure 50 times, cut hopefully once).
