  1. Thanks Terry ! your post on the butterfly hood worked fantastic for this build, so easy w clear instructions .
  2. I agree Sam ! rugged yet classy
  3. I tried the single stack first but didn't care for the look !
  4. Thanks!! I probably should have dirtied it up some since it's such a rugged vehicle let that certainly saw years of service on winter roads.!
  5. Very cool build ! Like how you've stretched it and added the wheels behind the cab. noticed that very popular in the north
  6. Nice update those details really look good !
  7. thanks everyone !! The hood was really simple using the techniques I learned here. Joe- I replaced most of the resin parts with plastic due to the age I found majority of the larger parts were warped. Tom - thanks ! Glad I took the holiday off to finish it up lol
  8. Heres the real truck that inspired the project
  9. Fresh of the assembly line, is an Autocar wrecker I built . Anyone from the Syracuse area will likely recognize this build..its based from one of Syracuse's DPW fleet !! The truck was built from the dump truck kit, yet the frame still needed a taffy puller to fit the wrecker body. The wrecker unit is a OOP KFS Holmes 750.I scratch built the entire wrecker body from a brochure using .040 plastic sheet ! I stuffed an orphan 8v71 under the " butterfly " hood. I found advice here for this, using brass tube and music wire The drive tires/ rims are from Double Take resins , the front rims were cast by Ryan P. The paint is Tamiya blue and chrome yellow. The chrome was stripped and replaced w Alclad. The side battery box steps were scratch built. Finishing up the bed, bike inner tube was used for the fender flares. Enough chatter..enjoy the pics !!
  10. Love this truck !! man can't get over the pure size of those tires....what a beast Can't wait to see more
  11. The only suggestion I can offer is run the frame under hot water and it should allow you to carefully bend it back into shape..kinda like taffy. This was an issue I dealt with on another build . just go slow and check your work. I've heard using cold water after its done sets the shape..but never done it. hope it works out
  12. Very interesting to watch develop!! Walt Disney had a term that fits perfectly here..imagineering.
  13. Thanks everyone ! ! I'm dying to start this build , but one project is finishing up...and I get distracted easy..whoa squirrel !! lol Terry- I gotta get a few of the resin emblems from you if you still cast em..pm sent
  14. My entry for the 2017 Truck a thon is a Brockway 361 based off the " Mountaineer" . Living just over the hill from the actual assembly plant where these trucks were built, yet being too young to have seen them during the glory years.. I felt this was my way to bring another Husky back home. The exciting stories and appreciation for these trucks is so evident after wandering the seemingly endless street during the annual Brockway show held in Cortland NY. The build stats will be AITM resin 361 resin cab, Detroit 8V71 traded recently from Terry ( thanks a ton ) , and spoke wheels ! I'm using the Mack R685st for the chassis after a great friend was willing to trade Macks..Thanks Tom ! I'm also adding the 50 Ton Tulsa winch to the back. The color I Finally decided is yellow cab w black fenders..classic combo Heres the box of goodness I'll start this up in the next couple weeks !! hopefully everyone stops by !!
  15. Joe- here ya go ! The kit axles are too wide ( long) measuring from the axle body..disregard the axle ends that slide onto the rim..we'll chop them off next. This is a photo of the stock axles, note the exposed end near the spring attachment using a dremel or sanding stick remove about 1/ 8 off both ends of the axle. I measured the axle " case" after this and it was 2 inches. do both axles now whack a bit off the axle where wheels slide on, and that takes care of the width issue. I also shorten the spread of the springs. file this spring leaf on both ends even with one above it..now your spread is narrowed ! Other modelers pointed out these tips..I'm just paying it forward Hope this helps ! Jeff
  16. Very cool sounding project. glad ya heard about the axle issues, it's actually very simple to fix, or order the mack rear axle set from Gary and it's ready to go . I have a few pics of one fixed on a steel hood dm I'm working on, I'll be happy to post them so you can see where the tweaks need to be . Have fun!
  17. Very cool details so far!! keep at it
  18. Everyone of them turned out fantastic !
