RM Mack w snowblower....
gotnitro? replied to gotnitro?'s topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
After many tries wrapping an auger, a tech at work made a suggestion that seemed worth trying. I was using a punch size similar to drive shaft diameter. He suggested going up a few sizes to allow blades to rotate more...I owe him a cold beer Now to flip the blade pitch and make the other side and start the bottom auger . I ended up gluing them like a W or M depending way it spins, creating a drift buster ..really makes the machine look more rugged now just glue repeat -

Thanks ! I've been trying to steal a few minutes each day to work on it , but ya know its tough to come by . Glad to see ya back Kerry Thanks ! Thanks , I'd imagine the snow removal crews would be very busy working in the Sierra! Thats typically what happens around here too, one area drifts really heavy, and out comes the blower..or the monster V blade Walter that lives nearby . Haha staying home when the big trucks come out to play ! I'm conflicted because I'd love to see it clearing roads , yet know the amount of work it demands ...guess we'll see -

Outstanding work ! Definitely showcases the power of the DM and emense size of those vessels ..I had no idea they were so large , until you mocked up the dm -
PE can be challenging, but also very rewarding. Fine details can be gained from PE sets enhancing a usual plastic kit. Good tweezers , sharp blades to cut them from trees, and good light /magnifier help . Future/pledge whatever its named this week makes a good adhesive for pe , or a speck of epoxy .

Thanks JT ! Planned a solid wknd at the bench, but somehow it turned into errands .. at least the holidays coming up -
Sucks to hear your having paint issues , we've all run into these from time to time. I chatted w Gary Wallace about this issue a few times when I was having adhesion problems. He recommended scrubbing w Ajax or comet and water then rinsing off . I use duplicolor primer first, but occasionally still paint will act up Good luck, we know you'll overcome it !

Thanks everyone! I haven't been messing with the augers much, my build time has been mostly after work while daughter taking her nap. I didn't expect to use up my pre punched discs so fast.. Did experiment last night w shape of discharge chute after a bag of gears arrived from amazon..I sketched out rough shape of chute , but have yet to try cutting shapes for it . Theres a side panel that curves and leans out thats testing me right now Here's the lower chute though..030 strip glued into the gear made it sorta like whiskey barrel! I'll putter with it over the wknd and also make a huge pile of auger teeth ! -

So enjoyable watching your craftsmanship making every detail scaled down like Louis build ! Like trying to look into the mind of an artist and then reverse engineer it Kepe up the great work -

Wow thats a beast ! I haven't seen a power wagon up close , but own its smaller sibling 2020 Big Horn . Absolutely best truck interior and comfort ive ever owned , and the color stands out in a sea of grays -

Screwing around w some plastic , picked up a gasket maker set to punch out the auger discs. Ended up using 9/16 punch or around 15mm. Curling them slowly around a rod and tacking w insta set I had a starting shape..after several screw ups ! Sorry for the cluttered background, only another 20 to go -

Man those resin tires look good on there..painting them w testors army helo drab..nice aged tire color and your set The entire kit looks will detailed , reminds me of resin armor builds -
I'd add a sliver to each side to reduce fender gap but maintaining space for paint thickness. Probably a 010 strip along both sides . The shortness could be remedied by cutting across back behind cowls and adding spacer there. Less noticeable there than say along front by hood pins .

I went thru the under glass posts and bumped all the complete builds to the top , so it'll make it easier to find when we reach the finish .

Nicely detailed engine ! Like the addition of the alternator too instead of the generator. Thats gonna look awesome under the hood of this workhorse -

Thanks ! The first time I saw the Oshkosh I was curious why it was staged there. The road passing by Skaneateles Lake is mostly wide farm fields and drifts heavily, making it challenging to keep clear w the regular plows. They anticipate Nor Easterns coming thru and its ready to work....I'm hoping to see it work !!! An entire line of these trucks would be incredible to see ! Duluth would definitely be home to these trucks . Jim's book mentioned them used heavily on B52 bases , which were always on alert . Lol yeah I'd feel like I'd slacked off without the impeller. Planning to start the extending chute very soon and its associated driveline . Heard the 1:1 was close by again, and have access to it for more pics . Thanks for following along ! Thanks Jim !! Not true, its mostly just circles and squares! Flat strips make up most of the parts ..start off small and before ya know it you'd be comfortable making parts .
