New ride
tbill replied to Hard_2_Handle_454's topic in 1:1 Reference Photos: Auto Shows, Personal vehicles (Cars and Trucks)
Great looking car! May it always get you where you’re going. always loved the looks of those . -
I think the frames were coated in what’s called cosmoline or something to that effect, it’s a clear/yellowish substance that prevents corrosion. I’ve been working as a tech at GM stores for 30 years, every thing new that has a perimeter frame, the frame is black, I would guess chemically coated more so than painted. Pretty much all the stamped steel suspension parts are also black. Tie rods and such would be black or natural metal or a combination of both. these are my observations after being under thousands of brand new vehicles. also of note, GM spin on oil filters have a different colored label on them from the plant than replacement filters have.

Mine should arrive Tuesday ..... -
Gotcha, I thought maybe it was just a decal thing, I have the bed buggers, but I’ve never had any of the race trailers
-
Were those changed into the race trailers?
-
The ‘metro’ single pup trailer hasn’t been reissued, granted it’s the same trailer as the doubles, but I don’t think it’s been out as a single kit again.

Paint chrome or strip & paint?
tbill replied to Kevinch's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Easy off oven cleaner works well for chrome removal, I use the stuff with the yellow cap. Some chrome is plated better than others depending on the kit. You will need a container with a lid when using this. -

I agree with everyone else, colors really work well together, fantastic looking pair you have there. and, welcome to the ‘dark side’, haha? -
Very nice work on this rig! The opening doors are a great touch, these kits have such a nice interior that disappears once stuffed in the cab. Sharp looking rig.

Well done ! I really like your weathering, not overdone , it just feels right. Fantastic build on that giant piece of equipment.

That is a gorgeous build, love the colors. Personally, I’d have a talk with whoever is putting fuel in this truck, they seem to spill quite a bit? -

Pete 359 snap kit—24hr build
tbill replied to tbill's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Thanks guys , it was a fun challenge. my plan was to do a snap kit for the ease of it, and knew full well it wasn’t going to be much detail. I cut everything off the trees, cleaned all the parts, built the engine, then primed everything, after that was dry, I separated all the parts into ‘color groups’ then painted. I put the cab in my dehydrator so I could two tone it quicker. We ran from noon Saturday to noon Sunday, so I wanted everything ready to put together the next morning, cause I wasn’t staying up all night , lol. It went quick , and I ended up with a nice shelf model. -

Excellent build in virtually no time! Well done! -
Group of friends decided to do the 24hr build outside of the Facebook thing as we aren’t on Facebook, so I picked this snap kit figuring I could probably actually finish it. I got it done in time (actual time of about 11 hours), it’s not perfect, but I really like it, and the memory of the build will surely stay with me for quite some time. Hope you all like it.

Thanks guys, it was a fun challenge. Here are a few pics of my buddies completions. The galaxy was done by one of my buddies 12 year old son, did the entire build himself, paint, foil, the whole thing. In the last pick, the Datsun is done, the Willys is 90%, but looks done.
