  1. Thanks for the photo, Hermann It was a good era for cars in Germany. Proper cars. My daily drive, family wagon and utility truck is a BMW 530i touring, with a 4-cam V8 and 400,000 kilometres on the clock. Cheers, -Don.
  2. That roof turns it into a good-looking car, it's what Ford should have done in the first place! Well done indeed!
  3. I know it well, and really like it. Cheers, Michael!
  4. My mistake, now I know better. He surely is Canadian!
  5. Bill proves that Amazon can deliver on an order from any device no matter how old. The bubble-wrap department needs a word.
  6. I agree, plenty of proper racing! I also enjoy Hamilton's virtuosity, his sheer artistry in a racing car.
  7. I believe the car was taken from him with no prior notice after Rolls Royce bought the Bentley firm in 1931. Which was a huge loss to him, understandably.
  8. Good to see Lance Stroll following in the footsteps of great American F1 drivers s like Phil Hill and Mario Andretti (I know Mario was born in Italy, but he was a US citizen). And another Lance in motorsport , after Lance Macklin and Lance Graf von Haugwitz-Hardenberg-Reventlow, to give him his full name. I'd always thought they were Americans too, but Macklin was a born and bred Englishman (he was involved in the infamous 1955 LeMans disaster) in while Lance Reventlow was actually born in London, although again was a US citizen. But now it's Lance's turn and he confounded his critics ('he's only there because Daddy bought the team'!) by qualifying 3rd on the grid for the Hungarian Grand Prix and finishing the race a fine 4th, narrowly missing a podium. Great stuff!
  9. Great photo, but I'm curious about the registration number - W.O's 8 litre was GK 706. I also like the Little Chef concept - we always went there on our travels to and from BMW Car club races. Better than Happy Eater,,,
  10. My Grandad used to say: 'Hush yer wheest'. Maybe you're a trifle harsh on Dundee!
  11. Yeah, there's a thread on that. Divided by a common tongue! The Scots, Welsh and English have their own words and phrases. In Wales we have 'I''l be there now in a minute'. The English can say 'thanks very much' in many ways, with very different meanings. And most sassenachs don't get the great Scottish poet, Robbie Burns. To a mouse: Wee sleekit cowran tim'rous beastie...
  12. Well my grandfather was Scottish, but I've always lived in England or Wales and this expression has been regularly used by myself and others throughout my life. So I guess it's common throughout the UK. Glue, cement, chicken, milk, if they're past their best then they'e well on the way to being gone off. Sadly they don't physically depart, they have to be disposed of! Sometimes gone off can be good, such as when 2-pack paint or epoxy resin has set hard.
  13. The Avanti caught my eye too. I'd like to see more. And I love the Grand Masters trompe l'oei paintings. So I enjoyed seeing the Falcon grille and headlights.
  14. Best way to get rid of a leech is with a cigarette butt...
  15. Thanks for the replies. The policeman leading the investigation couldn't tell me much but I got the strong impression this was a fairly wide scale operation, and they were well keen to bust it. I imagine this flat in Glasgow as an Aladdin's cave of ill-gotten guitars, amps and many shiny things. Worst thing in some ways was that I'd spent a few hours sorting out some lengths of old wood and making a strong box, bit like a coffin, to keep the bass safe. They wrecked that. Yes I agree about community service. Not just physical labour, depends on the crim being dealt with. And the crime. Maybe this person is smart enough and non-violent enough to be involved in social care. A few hours a day with a lonely person. But like Bill said, some people aren't wired that way. And what costs more, a re-usable bit of rope and a hangman's pay or six months in criminal training college, sorry, jail? I'l certainly let you know the verdict.
  16. Can't help with advice on what kit to use, but I like the car, are these 'before and after' pictures?
  17. Yeah, the only suspended sentence they're likely to get will probably be probation for a few months. It's actually a she, btw - or pretended to be. 'A present for my cousin to show how much I love him'. ? I do hope they do time at least, but either way I get my axe back and a free trip to Glasgow!
  18. I was pleased yesterday when I opened the post. I had a summons from the Crown Prosecution Service to appear in court in Glasgow. Glasgow is over 350 miles away from my home and I haven't been there for 8 years or so, so my first thought was 'What can they be after me for?' It turns out I'm needed as a witness in the prosecution of a scammer who conned me out of a rather good bass guitar that I was selling on Ebay. The scammer sent a few fake messages that appeared to be from Paypal telling me the 'buyer' had paid £360 that would be released when I sent the guitar and gave them the dispatch number. I called Police Scotland, who duly busted the apartment where the scammer had signed for receipt of the guitar (wish I'd been there!) and got it back. And now the scammer is going to court, November 11th. I can't wait! Travel and hotel expenses paid, reimbursed for any lost income and I get Exhibit A, the bass, back again! ?
  19. My pet hate is when something is described as 'Very unique' - it either is unique or it is not. And when someone says 'Those are unique'. Unique means there is only one of them, if there is more than one it might be rare but can't by definition be unique.
  20. Fantastic, it is really close to looking like the original Thrill. And your technique is just like the way they used to shape 1:1 bodywork, I guess it's all CAD nowadays.
  21. Lovely model of a great car. I was fortunate to be able to have a close look around the one in the BMW collection in the UK while I was working there. Even more stunning in the flesh! John Surtees (world champion F1 and 500cc bike racer) famously owned and enjoyed his factory tweaked 507 from new until his death, and Elvis had one too which is more of a surprise to me!
  22. Maybe meet in the Restaurant at the End of the Universe! Good luck, -Don.
  23. It's a Getoutofmyway GT! PM sent.
  24. Thanks Rob and Joe for the info, it's interesting to hear how these things are done in different places.
