1967 Pontiac Bonneville. 2/20, COMPLETE!!
mustang1989 replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I'm finding that I have a whole lot of fun with the "built ups". You get a before and after effect that's not possible with a kit right out of the box. I'm sure you're gonna do this one a lot of justice Steven. -
Simply unbelievable!!!!

Revell Hot Rod Mustang Street Machine-Engine Build Up-07/23
mustang1989 replied to mustang1989's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Thanks Terry and JC! Going to shake things up a bit in the order that I do things as I'm going to build the engine first this time. I've been holding off on that part of the build until a later stage with the last few builds in order to get all the theory right but this time I've still got a couple of items to pick up with one of those being another set of aluminum wheels with five lugs instead of four. The four luggers were supposed to be used on my 1990 LX 5.0 Mustang build. I'll be having the same offset for the rear wheels and will be using the 15x3-1/2" wheels up front and all. I've gotta make the switch due to the fact that I just don't know of many four lug rear axles holding up to a 460. (yeah I know, you'd think I was building a real car or something!! lol). One of these days I hope to be building a 1:1 scale 460 powered Fox Body. I've seen whats involved and it aint that bad. Stock hood'll close right over one .....and that's no lie! The layout of the box stock kit which I forgot to post in the intro to this thread. As usual I'm going to TRY to keep this thing fairly simple but you know how that goes.As for the resin engine. I'm already kind of niffed at it so far. There was no oil pan in the package!!! That right there tiks me off because I PAYED for a complete motor. I'm over it as I had one in the stash and can work through it but dangit man! Gimme what I pay for. I mean..........c'mon!! Secondly look at the photo below: The cylinder heads were installed upside down and this is on the advertised picture. See how that intake manifold fits snuggly against the heads on both sides and the engine block at the front of the intake manifold? Yeah, well when the heads are installed CORRECTLY, meaning turned the freak over, 1.) the intake doesn't fit that well at all, and 2.) the cylinder heads are too wide for the engine block deck. Good Lord people!!! Makes you wanna do that "Three Stooges Slap" to a guy ya know? The solution? I cut a piece of black plastic styrene from Evergreen the perfect size of the intake manifold area and installed it on top and sanded the sides to increase the entire deck area to allow the cylinder heads to fit perfectly on the deck. The layout before everything gets test fitted in place:and the trial fit with everything lining up. Now I can proceed with removing the oil pan, stripping the chrome and black basing the entire assy. Here's how it's supposed to look folks. -
Looks good to me Pete. I like the little details that you added along the way. Nice touches.

Revell Hot Rod Mustang Street Machine-Engine Build Up-07/23

When I bought these wheels two years ago I had a guy by the name of Jim Littiken spin them up for me (they are aluminum) and I had 'em made up for my 1990 Mustang LX project. He sold his entire aluminum wheel business to a guy named AJ who I can no longer get a hold of. I would like a set of these in the 5 lug configuration for this project though. If anybody out there knows where I could get a set of these things with the correct offset for the rears (like what I have here) I'd appreciate it very much. -
Ok folks. I've got my next automotive build lined up after the "The Camaro Restoration Project" I've been working on for the last 7 months. I've been wanting to do a 460 Big Block Ford powered Fox Body Mustang for a while now. Initially I wanted to do the 1990 Model LX but now that I've acquired an older Fox Bodied car that just looked too cool to pass up I think I'll go with this one. I've already got the wheels and tires to make all this happen so here's where we're at:and I've got a Big Block Ford Resin kit (a 572 cid engine but I'll be labeling it as a "460" cid)It's already got an automatic transmission behind it so that's a plus. I didn't like the carburetor that was on top of it so we'll go with an 800cfm double pumper carburetor for the fuel induction side of things (shown below)I've got a set of obnoxious decals for the rear window that'll be in white for this buildMock ups: (large Goodyear lettering will be removed from the rear tires. Just looks too ridiculous the way it is and will be tucking the rear tires a tad bit more inward to keep from sticking out too far......don't wanna go too 80's on this you know.. )and the decals as laid out on the computer screen. Will be going with "GT460" on the lower rocker striping like the old GT350's and 500's used to be.

When I started this project in January I thought I was looking at a 3 month project. What followed was a seven month venture to pump some life into my first ever auto build which dates back 35 years. All in all the old build was in decent shape as I'd managed to keep it encased since first building it at age 13. When I left home at age 19 for the Army I left this build and several others behind where it stayed all this time until I finally picked it up from my parents house and put it in my display case here at home where it's spent the last 5 years. When I started on it 7 months ago there was no engine and the interior was.......well ........you know ...........very "Monogram" basic. I had alot of work ahead of me which I found out throughout the course of the re-build. I ended up using a total of five other kits to piece some of the missing pieces together (one of which was a newer Revell Camaro release kit to "update" this old dog of a kit with some of the parts that Monogram had failed to put in their kit) , hood and wheels were donations from good friends here on the forums (thanks be to Dee Cee and Paul). Powertrain/ drive train was from the AMT Chevelle SS396 kit. I ended up spending ALOT of time in the interior as well as the engine compartment. All badging is from PE fret for the Revell Camaro kits and the paint is GM paint code 79U--Mystic Teal Metallic, a paint that was used in the late 90's/ early 2000's on GM vehicles (Camaro's / Firebirds being in that line up). I also opted to transform this into an SS which took a little fancy foot work with the grille but I managed to pull it all off okay. I'm pretty happy with the results although the kit (as well as me) had it's limitations. lol. I'd like to thank everyone who followed along and encouraged me along the way on this trip back in time. With that.......here's the shots. Before: After shots:

35 Yr. Old Monogram 69 Camaro SS-Now "Under Glass"-07/20

Thanks Dave and Carl. As a matter of fact I'd like to thank all of you who followed along or took the time to encourage me along the way with this build. It has truly been an experience, I can tell ya that. lol. This puppy has been moved to the "Under Glass" Section. -
Man you guys are popping up with the RARE ones here. In my entire life I've seen two of the Laguna cars and that was as a kid. I thought those things looked awesome. I don't think I ever saw the Can Am car. I did see alot of the Grand Am's though. Cool mix of cars here.

Over all stance looks pretty dang good Dave. Looking forward to seeing this one at the finish line.

35 Yr. Old Monogram 69 Camaro SS-Now "Under Glass"-07/20
mustang1989 replied to mustang1989's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Thank you Jeremy and Tim. I finished up with the chassis as of this morning. The base chassis is all original down to paint and detailing through much younger eyes. I did do some repair painting here and there and applied a light wash on the fuel tank to bring out some of the detail.I think I touched the chassis up when I was around 16 or so with all the details. The front suspension, rear differential and leaf springs are all replacement parts and I had to make a custom driveshaft using the end pieces and some aluminum tubing. The mufflers are from the newer Revell Camaro release and the lead and tailpipes are silver solder. And with that......we're off to emblems and bumpers and a few touch ups here and there. -
Very nice work! Love the color and the details.

35 Yr. Old Monogram 69 Camaro SS-Now "Under Glass"-07/20

Man thanks JC. Been out of the loop from here now going on three weeks. Had lots going on at home but am still building. Well folks I've got the engine compartment finished. There are some things that are wrong and more things I could've added to the actual bay itself but hey, ya gotta know when to say "when" at some point. I chose to do a simple "fill in" at the passenger side rear of the engine bay where Monogram placed the battery initially and install it in the correct location. You'll see that the two rectangular holes for the hood hinges have been filled in and the molded in crappy wire details were removed from the firewall, the original master cylinder was overhauled and detailed along with the added brake lines and a windshield washer bottle was added (along with the battery) from the newer Revell Camaro release. Radiator hoses were constructed out of 16 gauge electrical wire and a dullcoat applied over both. Hose clamps were made from spare PE frets. All of the molded in detail on both fender wells was removed which instantly improved the engine bay appearance to me. Ya know.......I just realized..............I'm almost done with this one and have absolutely no clue what my next auto build will be. -
Back in tha saddle again with it!!!! YESSSSS!!!! Cmon' with yo bad self Steve!!!

Man I hate it when that happens JC. Looking very much forward to the recovery. Hang in there JC as this one'll be another good one in the books when its finished.
