  1. I hear you on not looking like that color much but this stuff really comes alive when the clear is applied to it. I shot some on a roof top about 2 months ago and thought the same thing until I shot the clear. I've always thought this was a cool looking color. 1999 would have been a prime time for that color. I believe that GM started using it in 95 or so and on into the early 90's. I could have swore I saw a later model CK that had that color on it though.
  2. Heya Rich! Thanks bud! I'm not going with any kind of original style paint for this one ( no #'s matching Camaro build) . lol . It's Mystic Teal Metallic from the late 90's/ early 2000's. I just remembered today about watching a video where a guy was using a Badger 350 so I figured, why not give it a try? I wasn't disappointed.
  3. Thanks Jim and Randy for both of you guys support. I've got COLOR!!! I ended up applying another coat of primer and smoothed all the imperfections out (a couple of freekin' dog hairs and some dust particles) and dispensed the paint into a paint jar and shot it through my airbrush. I had ALOT better results this time around fellas, however this paint does not play well with the air brush. Even after thinning the heck out of it I had difficulty in getting a uniform spray pattern to come out. I can't complaint too much as I'll be able to make this work out good in the end. These pics were taken after the results from my Badger 200. After these I decided to break out the much simpler Badger 350 and had a lot better luck with the pattern and a more consistent coat. I'm really going to be very happy with this color on this car is all I've gotta say: Engine is still coming along. Resin Holley test fitted onto the motor complete with throttle shaft and throttle lever.
  4. A bit late to the party but I'm definitely agreeing on that Sparkly Blue base. Man..............whadda show!
  5. Sorry about not being able to use the Coyote engine Tim. I will say that SB 302 looks great man! I really like what you're bringing to the table with both of these Mustangs.
  6. Freekin' Holeee Cow!! Great ideas at work here Rob! Love it man!
  7. I haven't built this one at all but it looks like you're pointed in the right direction with it Mike.
  8. Cool project Mike. Looking forward to more.
  9. Thanks for the vote of confidence Jim. Lord knows I need it . lol I finally got it back in primer this morning: So far so good there. I'll let it dry for a couple of days and try the base coat again with the airbrush. While all that's going on I ended up switching out the rocker covers with a set of Baldwin Motion ones. I shot a coat of Tamiya Smoke over 'em and brought out the "Motion" letters. I drilled the holes out for the rocker cover "wing bolts" that I'll be installing at a later point in the engine build. I also switched out the intake manifold and painted that this morning. Belt and alternator are now mounted and I'm fabricating an alternator mount for it so we don't have that mysterious floating alternator out there. I'll be breaking out that Molotow chrome pen to fill in the sprue attachment points on the alternator and clip that pin that's hanging out of the back of the alternator closer and install a terminal end with the ckt going to it and a retaining nut over the terminal end. In short..............there's some work to do. Still got some detailing to do the rocker covers but that's small stuff.
  10. Brilliant work John. Man...............look at you go.............Wow.
  11. Man, I'm gone a couple of days from this thread and just look at all the good progress!!!
  12. Good lookin build so far Martin!!!
  13. Still on this one guys. Been in the body shop all week having the emblem cavities filled & sanded and the ripples in the plastic body sanded smooth. Will be being more careful the second time around.
  14. I do like the idea of the Franklin Mint interior in a model kit. Cool stuff. What really got my attention was this garage. Isn't this one the Fujimi Garage with a few twists and turns added to it?
  15. Dang Rich!! Just when do you have time to model?? Dude get your feet wet around here cuz you're gonna like it. Great to have you on board buddy!
  16. Great to have you here Matt. You've came to the right place if you wanna get better at Auto builds that's for dang sure! Great group of folks here so grab a kit, start a thread and let's roll dude!
  17. Good info Jim and thanks for chiming in here pal. Currently in the "re-do" stage...................
  18. I appreciate everyone's responses so far. I'll be looking into the links and advice. Thanks fellas..............I'll post back here when I get it ironed out.
  19. Everything was going to plan. I sanded off all of the molded in badges and emblems to where the body was as smooth as a baby's bottom. I then primed this Monogram Camaro one day prior to applying the basecoat and it turned out perfect. Then something weird happened when I applied the color base coat. The sanded off SMOOTH emblems came back ???!!! What tha heck man? Here's what it did: In short ............what happened? I've stripped the paint because I got it too thick but want to go back with the same color. I've never encountered this before and know that this can be fixed but right now I'm scratching my head trying to figure out how. I primed with the Tamiya gray primer and shot this automotive lacquer based coat over it. From what I understand I'm supposed to use a sealer between the primer and the lacquer. Is it that or the style of paint I used? Can somebody shed some light on this one for me? Thanks, Joe Using this Automotive paint that I got on ebay:
  20. Heya Tim, I used Tamiya gray primer and yes sir it is a lacquer based automotive paint. However, from all the research I've dug up, Tamiya primer, I thought was supposed to be lacquer based as well.
  21. I may have to do that when I get back home and thanks for the heads up blunc. I am curious though. What is normally used as a paint sealer that'll stand up to this paint. I dunno if Future will stand up or not. I've never been up against anything like this.
  22. I forgot about the MPC version and totally didn't know about the 1/32 nd scale version. Learn something new everyday.
  23. Thanks for the reply. A sealer maybe? I hear ya. This is my very first car build from when I was 12 years old though. Just gotta finish it you know.
  24. Thanks Jim. I appreciate the good word bud. Well folks. I haven't been on the forum as much as of late due to the fact that I've been trying to get something done on this puppy. It spent all week in the body shop having the emblems removed and all the imperfections taken care of. I primed it yesterday and it turned out perfect. Then something weird happened today when I applied the color. The sanded off SMOOTH emblems came back after the base coat???!!! What tha heck man? Here's what it did: In short ............what happened? I've stripped the paint because I got it too thick but want to go back with the same color. Help please? 25. Man that's a good lookin' build Tony. I'm still trying to wrap my head around those wheels on the box top. You sure turned her into a winner bud.
