  1. That's not a bad idea on the carpet. I don't know how accurate it is but I can see where it would bring out detail that's not easy to pick out with the black carpet. I did that with a Junkers Jumo 213 engine on my Fw190 D-9. The engine block was supposed to be black but I made it a very dark grey just to bring out detail that wouldn't be seen if the engine were black. It made a huge difference in the way of detail.
  2. Looks like a million bucks Brodie. Take note: Do NOT thin Vallejo acrylics with any alcohol based thinners. The paint'll go south on you real quick. Ask me how I know............................
  3. LOL!! I did say in my opinion. Tamiya is the easiest....Hands down!! lol
  4. This...........I'm good at. lol. I'll make it so.
  5. Thanks Jim! I actually used Testors Semi Gloss Black from a spray can. It went on really smooth alright but with an ultra shine to it. I've got an idea in the makin's. I'll be wet sanding it to get that speck out of it after its cured out and then shooting a coat of semi gloss clear acrylic over it through the airbrush. I'll see what happens from there.
  6. Thanks Tim and Mark: I had run up against an issue already in the build and I haven't even started yet. The rear tires are a two piece design so I either needed to use another set of one piece design tires or work with these. I chose to work with these and use Permatex gasket sealer (thanks to a tip from a friend here) to assemble the tire halves and help with getting rid of that nasty seam that runs right down the middle of the tires.
  7. After priming the hood yesterday I shot the hood with semi gloss black this morning. Two things: 1.) I always seem to get exactly one speck of dust right smack dab in the middle of whatever I'm painting. (really not that big of a deal but gotta wait on the hood paint to cure out now) and 2.) the semi gloss black turned out to be a very glossy black. I will go back over it later with a semi gloss acrylic that will surely fix this. With any luck she'll be Under Glass by next week.
  8. Join the club on the bouncing all over the place Kevin! I'm all over the map with my building. Lookin' good and keep it up!
  9. Thanks Riley! See the 56 Ford F-100 thread in the light truck workbench section! Kevin: Thanks man! I've gotcha covered if you need any parts. As far as your front end, take the posts that you cut off and glue 'em in the head light bucket holes to fill the holes. I filled the bottoms with super glue and painted chrome silver over all of it to smooth it out. Doug: Thanks bud! Fun??!! Actually..................it was! Carl: Me too....me too! I took care of the ejector pin marks on the bottom of the hood yesterday and primed it again today.
  10. Troy & Al: Man I hope I don't disappoint! lol . This'll be a drawn out WIP as I'm building another kit as well which means I'll be making good progress one week and then the next week there won't be any but I'll get this done , rest assured. I've already got the plans going in my head. I know what I want, it's how I'm gonna get there that I'm still rolling around. And then you have what's actually gonna happen during the build itself! John: Thanks for the comments. I'm most likely going to have to take some out of the bed for this one. There's just a lot of tire back there.
  11. Good grief!!!!! This is totally awesome. I love the level of detail you are bringing to this engine build!!!! Watching, learning and admiring!!
  12. Just got the kit in last night along with the Tamiya TS-14 I'll need for priming a few things that I'll be using Alclad on (which is still coming in the mail). The only thing wrong with the kit is that it was missing its original wheels. The owner stuffed a set of wire wheels in the boxing from a later release of the kit. I'm not too worried about it due to the fact that I've got a set of Draglites to put on it. I also have a spare parts kit on the way as we speak as I've got a few mods I want to do to this one. Looks like I'll be tubbing this one.
  13. The paint and trim work.................................wow!!
  14. Thanks Jonathan! Almost to a close....................
  15. Bravo!!!! What a job so far!!!! Incredible paint bud, just incredible!
  16. Awesome stuff Tim!!! You have really pulled off a feat here with all of these builds. I mean I've seen folks build two or three at the same time but never six!!!!! Are you considering showing all of these at one time at show?
  17. Awesome work Jeremy!! Man I can just see the shark mouth on the front of that thing now!! BTW---Drooling smiley emoticon you were wondering about-
  18. .................and don't forget...lots of patience!!! LOL Jeremy: Thanks dude! The drooling smiley emoticon??....I got ya covered...LOL
  19. To be honest with you Tom, I surprised myself with this build. There are definitely things that I'll be improving on in the next build but I caught myself sitting back looking at it this morning after I had reached the end of my morning bench time thinking, "Did I just build that??".
  20. I was wondering where you got off to. I was missing the updates on this highly informative thread! Thanks for taking the time to do this Cameron.
  21. Brodie: Thanks man! I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with your Challenger build. As far as my build going in the Under Glass section......I can't wait either. This project was only supposed to take a week!! And that was over 4 months ago!!! Tom: I appreciate you're comments and input buddy! The negative battery cable does need a little touch up. I'd rather catch it now!!! Dan:Thanks and me too!
  22. Well this morning at the end of benchtime finds me with just the hood to go and I'm thinking about putting a radio antenna on it and that's it. I got the rear spoiler finished up this morning and installed the rear bumper / valance assy. I'm not real happy with the tail light panel in photos because it looks like I missed the mark all together at the back up light area but it's straight I can tell you that! It'll take me a few days to sort the hood out due to the ejector pin marks on the bottom side to iron out but this thing is all but there..............................
  23. Suuuuwweeet!! I like the color here too. Wicked!
