  1. What a project!!!! This sir is some mighty fine planning, engineering and execution!!!! I'm all over this one!
  2. Carl: Thanks for the encouragement pal! I bought a total of 4 kits for this build. I'll explain here: Kit #1: This is my main kit where all productive assembly will take place: Kit #2 : I will use the trailing arm rear suspension out of this kit along with a few other goodies that kit #1 doesn't have: Kit #3 is a copy cat of kit #1 but has been half built (it was a terrible effort on somebody's part but the kit is PERFECT) that I got off of ebay. This kit will be the sacrificial donor for all initial cutting / hacking and placement of the powertrain and drivetrain components as well as where and how much to cut out of the bed for the wheel tubs. I couldn't care less about the appearance of this thing but it serves its purpose in this build. I'll post pics of this thing in a minute... Kit#4 I have just in case something breaks or if I need another part (which happens a lot with my modified builds): With all this in mind I've got the 429 test fitted into the donor kit ....aww man! I forgot kit #5 for the engine donor Here's the sacrificial donor kit:( I only hope the original builder was 6 years old!!!!LOL) and the 429 bare block and transmission test fit. I'll have to move the transmission crossmember back a little and fabricate some motor mount bosses. Looks like the engine has to go back a tad.
  3. Man that's a nice job!!! At first I was just glancing and thought the black car was a 1:1 !! LOL
  4. I'm already looking forward to this one! I'm quite certain you'll be able to bring the metallic color to life here Tim!
  5. Thanks everybody for the good and kind words! Doug: That's the one thing I have not done. I was going to use some stretched sprue for it or a needle. On one hand I think that the stretched sprue will have a bend to it and on the other I think the needle will be to large in diameter. Will probably stretch some sprue and see. I was taking too long on the fence with it and decided to put the car here in any case. Believe me that's gonna get addressed.
  6. Thanks to everybody who commented, helped out or looked in on my build. You guys here are da bomb!!
  7. Now that is just sweet!! Beautiful scenery in the background just sets it off even better there Dejan!
  8. Thanks you guys for all the good comments so far! Pat: Yes, I'll give it back to him in time. His son is a little wild around the house so I'll keep it here safe for now.
  9. Well folks after what started out as a one week ordeal and turned into FOUR months of fun filled building, this sucker is now finished!!! The short version of the story is that I built this car about 30 years ago for my little brother. It stayed at my parents house for years after I built it and I finally took it , cleaned it up a bit and gave it back to my brother for Christmas about 5 years ago. The car took a fall about a year into its stay there and the hood and a few other parts were lost. I took it back again, eventually found most of the parts, cleaned it up, put it most of the way back together and put it up on the shelf for the last 4 years. About 4 months ago I took it down to replace the hood and rear spoiler from a new kit that I bought. What happened next is a build that ran itself and told me how it was gonna be. The car body is original and the interior is all original except for the shifter. I have had a lot of fun with this build because it's my first all out attempt at car modeling and I have learned all kinds of stuff from the help of a lot of folks who were kind enough to pop in and contribute to my WIP thread. Thanks to all of you who helped me (folks who guided me and folks who are unaware they helped me as I do a lot of poking around on this forum and gather ideas from other WIP's) restore a kit that I've long wanted to look the way it does now. Without the help here it wouldn't have turned out this good I can tell you that. Before the re-build Afterwards:
  10. LOL!!! Folks............................................THIS SUCKER IS UNDER GLASS!!! Waaa Hooooo!
  11. Just sanding my butt off! LOL. Should have something by tomorrow morning Dan.
  12. Man that's a really nice job onthat paint Jim!!! Motor detail looks good as well. Here's what brutha Ryan's talking about with the spark plug location:
  13. Troy: No worries man. I'll be going slow with this one as I've got some planning of how I want to do all of this. I do have a 429 Boss from the Revell 70 Boss 429 Mustang boxing that's in the works. The exhaust , even with the modified part of the kit seems a little cheesy to me. Before I can worry about that , however, I have to make sure that this mule will fit ok in there. Riley: Thanks for the vote of confidence! I'll be building this one along side a 1/48th scale Bf109 that I plan on opening up. While I'm building the 429, I'll also be building a Daimler Benz DB605 inverted V-12. No shortage of engine work that 's for sureI lol
  14. Workin' on it fellas. That coat of semi gloss actually turned from gloss back to semi gloss in a day or so. I have to do some light sanding and smoothing out but it's coming along.
  15. Heya Brodie! I'll be watchin' for those updates buddy and sorry it took so long to get back to you here. I usually thin mine with Vallejo Acrylic Thinner Medium or Model Master Acrylic Paint Thinner. The Vallejo thinner has a better flow aid in it than the MM stuff it seems like to me.
  16. That's not a bad idea on the carpet. I don't know how accurate it is but I can see where it would bring out detail that's not easy to pick out with the black carpet. I did that with a Junkers Jumo 213 engine on my Fw190 D-9. The engine block was supposed to be black but I made it a very dark grey just to bring out detail that wouldn't be seen if the engine were black. It made a huge difference in the way of detail.
  17. Looks like a million bucks Brodie. Take note: Do NOT thin Vallejo acrylics with any alcohol based thinners. The paint'll go south on you real quick. Ask me how I know............................
  18. LOL!! I did say in my opinion. Tamiya is the easiest....Hands down!! lol
  19. This...........I'm good at. lol. I'll make it so.
  20. Thanks Jim! I actually used Testors Semi Gloss Black from a spray can. It went on really smooth alright but with an ultra shine to it. I've got an idea in the makin's. I'll be wet sanding it to get that speck out of it after its cured out and then shooting a coat of semi gloss clear acrylic over it through the airbrush. I'll see what happens from there.
  21. Thanks Tim and Mark: I had run up against an issue already in the build and I haven't even started yet. The rear tires are a two piece design so I either needed to use another set of one piece design tires or work with these. I chose to work with these and use Permatex gasket sealer (thanks to a tip from a friend here) to assemble the tire halves and help with getting rid of that nasty seam that runs right down the middle of the tires.
  22. After priming the hood yesterday I shot the hood with semi gloss black this morning. Two things: 1.) I always seem to get exactly one speck of dust right smack dab in the middle of whatever I'm painting. (really not that big of a deal but gotta wait on the hood paint to cure out now) and 2.) the semi gloss black turned out to be a very glossy black. I will go back over it later with a semi gloss acrylic that will surely fix this. With any luck she'll be Under Glass by next week.
