  1. I picked up the AMT Ecto-1 and I will be making it a hearse instead, and chop the heck out of it and make it a helluva hot rod
  2. I agree.. it does look like it has a nice paint job.. but I can't really tell because of the blurry photos. I think if you were to add more backlight and a solid color background you would have a better quality photos on retake. I'd really like to see the paintwork clearly.
  3. Fireball Modelworks I do believe is about to release a really nice version of the truck rally wheel based off 3d printed masters.
  4. Ok. I'm open to suggestions. I am no pro when it comes to knowing what's right or what's wrong. What transmission would be the hot ticket item to have in about 1960? I know the Chevy smallblock is cliché but, at that time, it was fast and powerful right out of the junkyard.
  5. Photobucket is down for maintenance again today. They have these sort of issues every once in a while. I mostly use photobucket's mobile app for my phone and tablet, and it won't let me log in today. But it was working last night when I uploaded a picture. I had an issue w/ the mobile app a while back and it didnt work at all, but the regular site worked fine.
  6. I researched and forgot that the Ford 9" came into production in '57. So I think I can get by with it and not feel too bad about not using a quick change. Bobbed the rear frame rails. almost a little too much. I might add material and redo it. My decal sheet came in from Archer. They sent me the comoletely wrong thing. bummer. Figured out the transmission on my small block is a powerglide. not sure if a pover glide would have been used or even ideal at the salt flats.... so if anyone has anyou insight on that, it would be great. Picked up my salt flat moon discs. Super excited about those because they look rad. Take a look!
  7. Crazy. I'm in a facebook car group for Lincoln Mark VIII owners, and one of the guys in the group, his boss OWNS that white Cadillac. He just posted pics of it in the group.
  8. Hmm. that's pretty much exactly what I use. I like to dip my cotton swaps in water first. Keeps the scratches down. A dab of aluminum polish works out well once you have it leveled down too, to bring the shine back. I sometimes used the flat/top side of my thumb nail to try and also help level it out.
  9. I did not know that. Although I am not using that engine. I have an actual smallblock chevy with front timing cover engine mount. No idea what it's from, but I'm going to make it work. I did notice the Revell '30 has a 3 carb manifold. I'll be picking up another one of those kits for parts in order to build this thing, and I'll just use that. So that problem is solved. I am thinking I'd also like to somehow make the front end tilt. Haven't given much thought as to how, but I think it would be a nice touch as the resin nose is molded as one piece. Would add that extra bit of "trick" touch. I have still yet to bob the rear frame rails. I ordered some Archer louvers, I plan on making a rear roll pan and adding louvers, and also louvering the hood and the trunk. Should be picking up a set of the salt flat aluminum discs thursday evening. The interior bucket is very street rod looking. I imagine I'll have to sand off that detail and make it more "bare bones" looking I still have to figure out how to connect the steering shaft to the front end. Something I have an idea about, but not very familiar with on old hot rods since there are many ways to do this.
  10. Oh how nice those revell wheels and tires are! just imagine these with the aluminum discs and that will be that! This thing has the look that I anticipated now. I think I'll keep the 9" under it. it works well for this build. it's no transverse sprung quick change, but it will do. I also used the Buick drums from the 30 model a kit, and I drilled out the front and rear axles out to accommodate the metal drive pins... after I cut off the old style snap on pegs from the axles of course.
  11. I have a 29 and 30 kit, and mocked them up, and they look quite spectacular, but that rear tire tread, that was what was making me think twice about the whole situation. Didn't have any other wheels/tires that were even close. Those wheels I have on it now are from a Revell '40 ford standard coupe. While they look great, they are way too short for this thing. I was sort of debating using the kidney bean/speedway wheels from the 30, but I think it will look *that* much better with the steelies and moon discs over them.
  12. I was hoping you were going to be the person to chime in too.. Thanks Bill. That is exactly what I was looking for. Now to find a spare set of wheels/tires/brake drums/dust shields off of a 29/30 kit. ;-)
  13. My thoughts exactly. It's a 1/24 scale body and chassis and those short '40 Ford wheels aren't going to cut it. Thanks for the tip on those parts, I'll have to check that out. Thanks! Yes, the very same. I figured I'd just go ahead and start a thread for it. Might keep me inspired. This is actually an "Altered States" body. He sells a ton of stuff on Ebay, stuff that's not even on his website. I think he goes by "olmandowntheroad" on ebay. He makes a nice '30 as well that would go w/ the old monogram kit. Thanks, I have grown more fond of them lately! I would like to do more for sure. There was some cool stuff on the salt back then!
  14. This one sort of just came together for me while I was browsing Ebay. One of the sellers I follow had a really cool looking resin salt flat roadster body that I really liked. Then another seller listed a complete chassis to the Thom Taylor '34 convertible.... gears started turning... So I bought both. Then I found a photo etched grille. After that I was given a bunch of parts and among them were a really nice looking smallblock chevy. I would love for the smallblock to have 3 carbs, but all I have is a nice 4 barrel manifold. Plus the chassis is setup for a 9" axle. So I envision this car to be a tribute to a salt flat class racer of the early 60's. Things might change, I'd like to find a nice transversely sprung axle w/ a quick change, and a tri carb mani and go full vintage... but for now i'm working w/ what I have. The wheels/tires I have for this thing as of right now, I am not really feeling. They are too small in diameter and are not staggered in size. I'd prefer the rears to be taller. The plan is to take whatever wheels I find and go with the spun aluminum salt flat covers too. Here's what I have so far... Let me know what you think or any tips you have to improve this thing even more. I am still trying to figure out what to do to make steering parts.
  15. Since there are many others here who have far more vast knowledge on the subjects than I do, could anyone tell me if the tires that come with the new Revell 29/30 kits would be something that you would see on the salt flats back in the day? I remember hearing that the rear tires were dirt track tires? I love old vintage hot rods and such, but I don't always know what is period correct or genre correct for each type of motorsport. I really like the way they look on my project though, the height and diameter difference looks really good compared to other parts box wheels and tires I have as well. Thanks!
  16. Because I can't actually dedicate myself to finish one thing, I started another! I hadn't been able to bring myself to work on any old projects for some reason and I really wanted to start knocking some of my new kits out. But didn't know what. I wanted something odd and goofy, and a Pinto fit the bill. I knew it had to be a really late 70's early 80's color to stand out... and the color that always stood out to me on Fords from that era was that beautiful Tangerine color. So I went to the local auto paint shop, and had some mixed up in a rattle can for this project (and another) I painted it two weeks ago, and cleared it this past weekend. I foiled the letters and handles and other details on the car before my final coats of paint. However the letters on the hatch didnt turn out so well.. they were soo tiny I had a hard time trimming them small. Maybe super glue would help next time under the foil. Oh well, live and learn. Here it is so far. Pre color, cut out the center rear window posts and glued in the panel Here it is in paint with decals. No clear And here it is in clear with no polishing done yet. That will probably happen this coming weekend. I didnt use the tailgate decal because I didnt like how it did not have the spaces open for the handle and lock cylinder and the Pinto emblem. So I left it off. Plus it was like a half in wider on each side for some reason. Let me know what you think so far! Jesse
  17. I turned 30 in April of this year. Although I'm out of shape and beat up, so I feel older physically. Which stinks.
  18. Wonderful! I really like this scene you have going here.
  19. I always use google chrome as a web browser, and you need to add an extension called ad-block. And that will take care of pretty much 90 percent of your problems with photobucket. That site is such an ad-stricken site its ridiculous.
  20. Wow. Great work. Very lovely. I almost had one of these at a show recently.
