  1. Interesting. I'll try a dusting coat instead of a moderate coat.
  2. EDIT: Since I failed to meet the deadline for Cannonball 2016, I almost gave up on it... but I have too much time invested in this project to give up. So it continues! I don't believe I ever created a thread for this for updates besides what I posted in the cannonball thread. I'm hoping this renews my interest in this project, because I'd actually like to finish a cannonball at some point! So here's what I started with: I'm going for something like this... I decided to use the wheels and tires from the snap tite jeep rubicon because they were 5 lug instead of 6 lug. I raised the front suspension by basically breaking it apart and bending it a little, and cutting off the "hubs" and re-gluing them straight. I also made some "shackles" for the rear to raise it up a bit. Then I made a roll cage for it. However after seeing some of the Australian road laws about having NO bars coming forward of the front seats... I may have to modify my cage.... I also made a spare tire mount for the rear of the cage. Can never have too many spares in the outback! The sides of the bars at the rear should have room for 2 fuel cans. 1 on each side. What's nice about it is, I can still put the top on it... you know, in case the weather gets bad lol Also discovered that the pegasus disc brake rotors fit on all 4 wheels. So this Bronco will have 4 wheel disc brakes. Since this is a Bronco there was usually 1 fuel tank, but in my favor the old monogram error of using the F150 chassis has blessed me with 2 fuel tanks! However I will have to figure out some sort of "fill" for the 2nd tank since there's only 1 fuel door. Last I left off, I was working on an offroad tube bumper and skid plates for the chassis. I wasn't having good luck bending evergreen for the bumper and getting consistent results and that's when I boxed it back up. I still need to make some lights and a winch for it too. I'm also still debating a powertrain. I'm thinking a 5.4L DOHC w/ a carburetor. Will have to make a hat for it to go to a snorkel... you know.. just in case. I'm also thinking orange and white for a paint job, a very 80's original look to it.
  3. I'm not a truck guy, but I came here to this thread for some reason... then I saw those guitars... that must be why! great looking stuff. I can't play for anything, but I really love guitars. I have a few myself. I also have an aluminum stand-up bass, currently stripping the paint so I can polish it.
  4. What a beautiful looking car. Also can't wait to see if the AFX version will come out... Those Cragar wheels!!!!!
  5. right? I loved the '64 Galaxie's they had in the last movie!
  6. absolutely amazing! love it! very nice work. I like how you threw in the pic of the real foot wash area at the end haha
  7. Beautiful '57. Love the all black outside treatment. Almost looks like it needs a spotlight on the A-pillar because to me, it looks like it's an undercover or government car. Men in Black maybe! haha As far as backgrounds, I like both of your background treatments. It's nice to see a car on it's own, as to not draw too much attention from it, but I also like seeing how it fits in a realistic environment like your parking lot. So I'm for both.
  8. I have to start working on my bronco again... in hopes I can actually finish a cannonball at some point. This year has been hectic for me. And now it's just about too cold for me to paint anything anymore too.
  9. I picked up the AMT Ecto-1 and I will be making it a hearse instead, and chop the heck out of it and make it a helluva hot rod
  10. I'd buy those in a parts pack....
  11. I agree.. it does look like it has a nice paint job.. but I can't really tell because of the blurry photos. I think if you were to add more backlight and a solid color background you would have a better quality photos on retake. I'd really like to see the paintwork clearly.
  12. Fireball Modelworks I do believe is about to release a really nice version of the truck rally wheel based off 3d printed masters.
  13. Ok. I'm open to suggestions. I am no pro when it comes to knowing what's right or what's wrong. What transmission would be the hot ticket item to have in about 1960? I know the Chevy smallblock is cliché but, at that time, it was fast and powerful right out of the junkyard.
  14. Photobucket is down for maintenance again today. They have these sort of issues every once in a while. I mostly use photobucket's mobile app for my phone and tablet, and it won't let me log in today. But it was working last night when I uploaded a picture. I had an issue w/ the mobile app a while back and it didnt work at all, but the regular site worked fine.
  15. I researched and forgot that the Ford 9" came into production in '57. So I think I can get by with it and not feel too bad about not using a quick change. Bobbed the rear frame rails. almost a little too much. I might add material and redo it. My decal sheet came in from Archer. They sent me the comoletely wrong thing. bummer. Figured out the transmission on my small block is a powerglide. not sure if a pover glide would have been used or even ideal at the salt flats.... so if anyone has anyou insight on that, it would be great. Picked up my salt flat moon discs. Super excited about those because they look rad. Take a look!
  16. Very cool. Beautiful in fact. I loved the books and movies
  17. Crazy. I'm in a facebook car group for Lincoln Mark VIII owners, and one of the guys in the group, his boss OWNS that white Cadillac. He just posted pics of it in the group.
  18. Great work. looks fantastic
  19. Hmm. that's pretty much exactly what I use. I like to dip my cotton swaps in water first. Keeps the scratches down. A dab of aluminum polish works out well once you have it leveled down too, to bring the shine back. I sometimes used the flat/top side of my thumb nail to try and also help level it out.
  20. What are you using to burnish it?
  21. I did not know that. Although I am not using that engine. I have an actual smallblock chevy with front timing cover engine mount. No idea what it's from, but I'm going to make it work. I did notice the Revell '30 has a 3 carb manifold. I'll be picking up another one of those kits for parts in order to build this thing, and I'll just use that. So that problem is solved. I am thinking I'd also like to somehow make the front end tilt. Haven't given much thought as to how, but I think it would be a nice touch as the resin nose is molded as one piece. Would add that extra bit of "trick" touch. I have still yet to bob the rear frame rails. I ordered some Archer louvers, I plan on making a rear roll pan and adding louvers, and also louvering the hood and the trunk. Should be picking up a set of the salt flat aluminum discs thursday evening. The interior bucket is very street rod looking. I imagine I'll have to sand off that detail and make it more "bare bones" looking I still have to figure out how to connect the steering shaft to the front end. Something I have an idea about, but not very familiar with on old hot rods since there are many ways to do this.
  22. Oh how nice those revell wheels and tires are! just imagine these with the aluminum discs and that will be that! This thing has the look that I anticipated now. I think I'll keep the 9" under it. it works well for this build. it's no transverse sprung quick change, but it will do. I also used the Buick drums from the 30 model a kit, and I drilled out the front and rear axles out to accommodate the metal drive pins... after I cut off the old style snap on pegs from the axles of course.
  23. I have a 29 and 30 kit, and mocked them up, and they look quite spectacular, but that rear tire tread, that was what was making me think twice about the whole situation. Didn't have any other wheels/tires that were even close. Those wheels I have on it now are from a Revell '40 ford standard coupe. While they look great, they are way too short for this thing. I was sort of debating using the kidney bean/speedway wheels from the 30, but I think it will look *that* much better with the steelies and moon discs over them.
  24. I was hoping you were going to be the person to chime in too.. Thanks Bill. That is exactly what I was looking for. Now to find a spare set of wheels/tires/brake drums/dust shields off of a 29/30 kit. ;-)
  25. My thoughts exactly. It's a 1/24 scale body and chassis and those short '40 Ford wheels aren't going to cut it. Thanks for the tip on those parts, I'll have to check that out. Thanks! Yes, the very same. I figured I'd just go ahead and start a thread for it. Might keep me inspired. This is actually an "Altered States" body. He sells a ton of stuff on Ebay, stuff that's not even on his website. I think he goes by "olmandowntheroad" on ebay. He makes a nice '30 as well that would go w/ the old monogram kit. Thanks, I have grown more fond of them lately! I would like to do more for sure. There was some cool stuff on the salt back then!
