  1. This one sort of just came together for me while I was browsing Ebay. One of the sellers I follow had a really cool looking resin salt flat roadster body that I really liked. Then another seller listed a complete chassis to the Thom Taylor '34 convertible.... gears started turning... So I bought both. Then I found a photo etched grille. After that I was given a bunch of parts and among them were a really nice looking smallblock chevy. I would love for the smallblock to have 3 carbs, but all I have is a nice 4 barrel manifold. Plus the chassis is setup for a 9" axle. So I envision this car to be a tribute to a salt flat class racer of the early 60's. Things might change, I'd like to find a nice transversely sprung axle w/ a quick change, and a tri carb mani and go full vintage... but for now i'm working w/ what I have. The wheels/tires I have for this thing as of right now, I am not really feeling. They are too small in diameter and are not staggered in size. I'd prefer the rears to be taller. The plan is to take whatever wheels I find and go with the spun aluminum salt flat covers too. Here's what I have so far... Let me know what you think or any tips you have to improve this thing even more. I am still trying to figure out what to do to make steering parts.
  2. Since there are many others here who have far more vast knowledge on the subjects than I do, could anyone tell me if the tires that come with the new Revell 29/30 kits would be something that you would see on the salt flats back in the day? I remember hearing that the rear tires were dirt track tires? I love old vintage hot rods and such, but I don't always know what is period correct or genre correct for each type of motorsport. I really like the way they look on my project though, the height and diameter difference looks really good compared to other parts box wheels and tires I have as well. Thanks!
  3. Because I can't actually dedicate myself to finish one thing, I started another! I hadn't been able to bring myself to work on any old projects for some reason and I really wanted to start knocking some of my new kits out. But didn't know what. I wanted something odd and goofy, and a Pinto fit the bill. I knew it had to be a really late 70's early 80's color to stand out... and the color that always stood out to me on Fords from that era was that beautiful Tangerine color. So I went to the local auto paint shop, and had some mixed up in a rattle can for this project (and another) I painted it two weeks ago, and cleared it this past weekend. I foiled the letters and handles and other details on the car before my final coats of paint. However the letters on the hatch didnt turn out so well.. they were soo tiny I had a hard time trimming them small. Maybe super glue would help next time under the foil. Oh well, live and learn. Here it is so far. Pre color, cut out the center rear window posts and glued in the panel Here it is in paint with decals. No clear And here it is in clear with no polishing done yet. That will probably happen this coming weekend. I didnt use the tailgate decal because I didnt like how it did not have the spaces open for the handle and lock cylinder and the Pinto emblem. So I left it off. Plus it was like a half in wider on each side for some reason. Let me know what you think so far! Jesse
  4. I turned 30 in April of this year. Although I'm out of shape and beat up, so I feel older physically. Which stinks.
  5. Wonderful! I really like this scene you have going here.
  6. Wonderful build!
  7. I always use google chrome as a web browser, and you need to add an extension called ad-block. And that will take care of pretty much 90 percent of your problems with photobucket. That site is such an ad-stricken site its ridiculous.
  8. Wow. Great work. Very lovely. I almost had one of these at a show recently.
  9. gorgeous build! I like the choice to go w/ the W engine.
  10. I use Tamiya's grey primer, and they're fine primer in grey and white. I've used it on new and old plastic.... no problems.
  11. I like them too... I also leave them in the box. I think in the back of my mind that one day when I'm out of models to build (yeah, right!) that I'll sit down and put all these together and display them next to the car... who knows.
  12. Freaking great! love the fact that you also smoothed the roof out to make it a hardtop/coupe. I was going to build mine bright and shiny red or orange... now I'm having second guesses!!
  13. I've not used UPol clear. I've used their weld thru primer though. Perhaps that is why the gas out times are longer since it's legit automotive stuff. I can prime, paint, clear, wetsand, and buff tamiya in a day.
  14. Do you air brush or rattle can? What kind of paints?
  15. I can't seem to get that wicked shine that Harry gets, but I get close. My chrome turns out to be more of a polished aluminum with a hint of a brushed aluminum look. Harry, do you polish the black before applying your spaz stix? Or is your trick in rubbing the spaz stix at all? When I spray my Spaz Stix it is way too dull.. then I handle it and it shines up, but will rub thru easily.
  16. This. This this this a thousand times over this. On an unrelated note.... I need to start selling on ebay!
  17. Tried that w/ the latest Revell Ramcharger body.... no dice.
  18. What a beauty! I love it!
  19. Wish I could have had more time to build anything over the past few months. I unfortunately won't be bringing any builds with me this year. But should still be there to check everything out.
  20. I also have one to build too... always LOVED this car. The TD kits really appealed to me when I was young.. and still do.
  21. 298,xxx miles. Next oil change right before 300,000. I've owned this thing since December 2009. I wish they still made these things. My truck is the best purchase I have ever made. It's not a rocketship and it's not the most comfortable, but it just keeps going. However I've seen these kind of articles before. Remember those gawd awful "torino" and "chevelle" posts that keeps popping up from time to time? Plus, the concept Bronco at the top of this article came out around the same time I was in high school... so that's been like 12 years! Just the same old recycled internet garbage. Ford did say they regretted halting production on the Rangers though, and had considered bringing them back but had made no set in stone statements. To me the EU Ranger is too "car-ish" and not nearly enough of a truck. Yes it has a little baby diesel, yes it has 4wd. I think they're ugly and the bed is too short. They did to the Ranger what they did w/ the Explorer on it's platform redesign, and took the "truck" out of it. As far as the Bronco thing goes again, there's been many many rumors of it being based on the F series trucks... there's been some homemade well done renditions made that made it look like an F150, an F250/350, and even the one at the top that looks like a futuristic first gen Bronco. But there again, almost every picture I've seen of it is just a recycled, re-photoshopped picture of the same thing we've been seeing for years. Ford has said, that they do NOT build orphan vehicles. The only 2 exceptions to this now, are the F150 and the Mustang, because they are their "flagship" vehicles. All other vehicles share platforms between Lincoln and Ford. Hence the death of the Ranger pickup, the Crown Victoria/Town Car, and the E series fullsize van, to name a few. So either they're really bringing the EU Ranger here, and then basing an SUV type vehicle off of it, to keep it from being an orphan, or it's just internet bench racing. I'll believe it when I see either of them rolling next to my Ranger on the highway.
  22. Super cool! And one heck of a sleeper!
  23. Rattle can paint doesn't bother me, Tamiya is a little stinky, but anything else doesn't seem to affect me. Now, real automotive paint, whew, that stuff is wicked bad for you. Which is weird because some of it can kind of smell sweet... I always liked walking over to the body shop when I worked at the car dealership. I just like that body shop smell. I always wear a respirator when working w/ real automotive paint. When I rattle can I am outdoors in an open environment upwind of my paint fumes. Filler/high build primer is mean to build up on the body of a vehicle.... imagine what that does to a set of lungs!
  24. Great looking build! I was thinking the same thing... totally something you would see at a 24 hours of LeMons race!
