Another GT40 MKI on the table
vamach1 replied to vamach1's topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
Gary, Do you have any more pictures of P1049 in color? -
Well done. It looks cool without the stripes - vary clean look.

Very nice and cool color. I built a resin one in the 90's (the convertible was not available yet) sold by Mini Exotics. When I do another one I will paint it Gulfstream Aqua. I remember the gold decals were not great and I had to double them up over the dark burgundy paint.

Thanks guys. Here's another project that I experimented with to do a MKI with the updated 66 style front end using the "hood" from a Fujumi kit(like the green car). I have since smoothed out the rough edges. Since I'm a glutton for punishment I am going to take a crack at doing an early GT40 roadster by cutting up the IMC/Testors GT40 kit back section. This may involve some creativity but like many of us I have more time than I was expecting to have off these days. Pictured is the DDP models kit I saw on Facebook and that's what I would be shooting for to replicate but with of course that very tricky bundle of snakes exhaust system on a 302 with webers.

This is a CMA transkit that I believe was offered before Fujumi came out with a reverse engineered MK I from their MK II kits. It's another project that was started (body painted) and was put back in the box I'm not sure how long ago. Over time I collected wheels and tires and engine and some parts from other GT40 kits. Since the back will not be opened up as the resin would be tough to cut through - it will be a curbside but with an engine visible from the rear window. The dash board was outside drying and I' need to do a little more research on the exhaust before I dive in to create the car as it ran in 67 @ Daytona. As always any thoughts, suggestions and questions are welcome.

I started this last year hoping to finish for the Philly NNL show. I did not finish in time and shelved it until last a few weeks ago and despite the show being delayed I dedicided to finish it once and for all. The decals (from Renaissance) began to fall apart so I have a little touching up to do. If you have ever built these IMC GT40's they are a bear to get to fit together on a good day. The front will not stay down unless held so I may do a little trimming once I figure out where the obstruction. It's unfortunate Fujumi did not go a step further with their kits (No engine and nothing opens) as the bodies are much more accurate than this kit that is over 50 years old. The only extras I added were the rear clear scoop and carb intake.

Mecum Auctioning Model Cars !!!
vamach1 replied to Mike 1017's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I guess they are trying to take a little business away from Ebay, ? -
I am by no means a paint expert. I think we can all agree that for instance that Ford Corporate blue is not a metallic color but other variations of blue certainly look more "metallic." Whether it was marketing or something added into the paint to make it look "metallic" I think there are many colors that could be considered non metallic or metallic. For example, Ford's Grabber green was very different than the Grabber green metallic. I guess I am saying someone that is familar with mixing paint would have a much better explanation of what went into these formulas back in those days.

I guess I should not be surprised.

100 years ago I think people just accepted the high mortality and that there wasn't that much that could be done to stop the spread. If this spread to the point there was a few hundred thousands deaths we would probably fall into a full blown recession. Hopefully a month or so of standing down and finding a cure or vaccine or drugs to keep the death rates down will ease the panic which has not been too bad other than people buying more food, etc. than they need. I hope these large companies will back their employees and do the right thing and help out when it is needed the most. A lot of people are quick to blame the government for every mis-step but most of the workers are just regular people hired to do a specific job and are expected to leave their political views at home. I have worked in both public and private sectors and have found good and bad people in both. America and the world will get through this given the non-stop attention it is getting that it could be a lot worse without some drastic steps being taken. Just my two cents.

Looking good. I cannot remember did the kit come with chome valve covers like most of the rear cars did?

I went to the new Hobby Lobby @ Fairlakes. The kit selection is definitely better than Michaels and for ar kits probably better than the RC shop you mnetioned. A this point I probably buy 90% of kits at the MAMA meetings or for more unusual or harder to find or discontinued ones I check EBay or go to the NNL's or IPMS shows. The Midnight Modelers meet about an hour from us and I've been down there and stop into the Hobbytown down there. Of course they have great supplies but the kits are pricey compared to the stores that an lure you in with a coupon. Hopefully the Mid-Atlantic NNL show will happen in May assuming the COVID-19 cases has dropped off significantly by then. The Fairfax HS IPMS show in April was cancelled so at this point everyone is just waiting for some good news in the coming weeks.

By accident or otherwise the worn leather seats look great. -
UnclsScott58 - that is pretty cool. Glad to hear it has served a useful purpose for man years. Every time I go to Hobby Lobby I think about getting the larger Lunar Landing kit. I usually only build cars but when I was much younger I built just about everything. I think I still have the standing astronaut in my parts stash.

Not the same program but I do rememer joining this Science Program for ten cents but every model they sent probably got blown up with firecrackers at some point. Somewhere I have a Master Modeler certificate from Revell.

Another great build. Keep them coming.

Thanks for sharing Gary. You guys were decades ahead of some of us in terms of using resin, metal, etc. to create some very unique models. There's a certain nostalgia too about building one of these older "kits" decades later and they still hold up in terms of today's standards. -

Great old Christmas picture. I cannot remember buying any "new" PSM kits but I did one across this 70 Boss maybe 15 years ago and the box for an original AMT 69 Mach1. Suffice it to say the Boss does not really have a Boss engine if compared to say the 1/25 Cougar kit that has a very good 1/25 Boss 302. As for those old PSM kits, they are good for junkyard dioramas and that's about it. -
I guess hitch hiking on the Jersey Turnpike isn't a great idea either. ?

I go with two others and it is an eight hour round trip. Aside from sharing the cost we talk most of the time and since it is once a year we leave early an get back late but I look forward to NNL East every year. Of course staying overnight is always an option.
